Epic?

I wasn’t overly concerned with the SS because it was matching about what I was getting last season during the speed stick training, topped out at 120 with the driver and it went for a country mile... but I don’t trust LM data that the guy selling me the stuff tried to tell me that he plays blades... 😏

Realistic smash was probably closer to 1.43-1.45, so that means your swing speed was probably sitting between 110 and 115moh club head speed which is awesome

We’ll see what the PXG does.  I do know it is the shortest in distance our of any driver I’ve had.

I can't remember the last time I hit a driver even close to those numbers.

Oh, it's easy for me to recall when I came close to 300 carry distance... that would be never.

Is it possible to gain 30 yards of carry with just a driver change?  Is that real life?

I suppose if one's coming from persimmon and steel shafts that wouldn't be surprising, but would seen a rarity for current (near current) technology.

Well, I ran out of time to make it to DSG to test the gamer vs the Epic... but, I am leaving for Pensacola in two weeks.  It just so happens that there is an Edwin Watts or whatever they are called there.  Planning on trying everything they have in stock, and I hope they have the TSi4...

Had a chance to test the Epic Speed yesterday. My local golf store loaned me one for the day. Sadly, or happily perhaps (I saved $700 CDN) by not purchasing the Epic Speed 9 degree. The Epic Speed was compared with my current Callaway driver head (B21) in my custom fit Graphite Design XC-6 stiff shaft and my daily gamer (Srixon Z-Star) ball. Not really any gains to be had with the Epic Speed in my case. A slightly lower ball flight was evident, but carry numbers and totals were pretty much the same as my B21. So, for now, I'm sticking with my B21 and saving some cash in the process. Perhaps when the season is in full flight, I might give it a go again, but I was in good form yesterday with my clubs and up against my B21, it didn't really make me want to drop $700.

That's asking a lot for an off the rack club to outperform something custom fit with an upcharge shaft. Unless the existing driver is 5-10 years old or your swing has changed a lot and the fit is no longer ideal.

Semi-Update: a guy from work went to DSG with his driver and hit the same Epic I did, and his numbers were within a yard... and they are true to what he sees on the course.  285 carry, he is a fairway finding machine... so, I wonder if I would gain some serious yards by switching to this beast... obviously I need to take mine in, but at least there is some hope that the monitor was somewhat accurate.

needless to say, he is keeping his 915 driver for now, no reason to switch.

I’d say MOST of the monitors I have ever been on are within 5 yards of what I’d expect to see on Carry.  It’s the roll that seems a little too generous a lot of time.  Their driving ranges on these simulators are VERY firm.

That’s not to say no one has ever been screwed by a juiced launch monitor, but more recently I haven’t found a big difference in carry.  But yeah it sounds like you need to get down there with your gamer and get some more swings in man!

Take out the real stinky ones and I’m looking at 308 average... you could take 10 off the bottom and I’d be happy. 15 even.

I'm twice your age probably and nowhere your speed but I'm seeing very similar gains over my past few drivers......

Had original SIM 10.5* that was very steady and in the 225-240 range......problem was the occasional quick hook.....so the quest went on and next up was the tsi2 ......extremely steady and removed the hook but lacked pop......

A friend gifted me a gbb 10.5 epic and there were noticeable 5-10yd gains but spin was higher and into the wind I'd get killed.

Went into superstore and tried the LS head and seemingly it was doing quite well....... on the monitor.  Had a demo that I took out and it sounded horrible and flew erratically.

In despair, I went back to "try" the Speed head......same footprint as gbb epic 17 .

After just a few swings I could see the potential.  Made the adjustments to -1D setting and it came alive.......I nearly drove a downwind par 4 320yds .....finishing 10yds short of front edge.... 290ish?  It has continued we loads of 260, 270, 280yd drives especially downwind.....an xtra gear that I haven't seen or had in a long time....

For me , this is a reincarnation of my all-time favorite driver the R510 non-tp 330cc from 03-04......look, sound/feel, flight and footprint......with Speed being bigger, more forgiving and more stability......I've found MY unicorn......Tensei 65R AV blue 💙 D3 swingweight......20210308_152331.jpg.1d95e1ead8d008ef4b554117465baeb8.jpg20210308_152413.jpg.53937794e7fe29232351ba043cabd04f.jpg20210308_152324.jpg.9beaacdb7688cf00fce1c3541784e4d0.jpgScreenshot_20210309-105814_Google.jpg.95284c9e7ca173a29f1ccf883b9bb498.jpgScreenshot_20210309-110308_Google.jpg.33ba32508a07b6b14cd9e8099cfb6fea.jpg

Foz,
I am an undergrad Bible student right now, 9 credits away from graduation.  My masters will be a Masters of Divinity, focusing in Biblical studies.  Eventually, I would like to take some archeological classes and go that route.

But in the mean time I will be focusing on getting ordained, and hopefully become a Chaplain where I was called.  If that ends up not being the way things shake out, I will be a pastor at a local church when I retire in 6 years from active duty.

I really enjoy the academic study of the Bible, so that might lead to some sort of teaching about it down the line.

I attend Liberty University Online.

That is awesome! I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Same to you and yes , this Speed is a keeper......adding dimensions to my game that hasn't been since M3/S+ Limited 60R combo from 3-4yrs back......

We'll definitely sway a few folks to at least try the Epic Speed......😋
