Back to Steel Spikes

Since it appears that quite a few players on the PGA tour have gone back to wearing steel spiked shoes, what would be the prognosis of allowing amateur golfers and the general golfing public to wear steel spiked shoes again? I for one would welcome back the possibility of wearing them since the spikeless and rubber spiked shoes have a tendency to slide when hitting a shot.

Will never happen.  Damage to the greens, lawsuit waiting to happen when you slip on the bathroom (or clubhouse/proshop) floor, etc.  I wore steel spikes for years when they were the only game in town...I wouldn't want to go back to them.  I prefer soft spikes or spikeless golf shoes.

Even though I'd like to see it come back, I don't see it happening.  Even though their spikes are built differently now ... it's a metal spike, with the soft spike surrounding it.  So they are still not the real spike of yesteryear.  Even their spikes nowadays don't damage the greens like they used to.

Zero. Virtually every course bans them. The softspikes/spikeless do less damage to the green. Unless the tour is coming to town, I don't think gc superintendents want the damage.

Damage to carpets and furniture in clubhouse greatly reduced, as well.
