First Ever WITB- Need help

1. Driver: Cobra Radspeed, 10.5°, HZRDUS Smoke Black Shaft 70g 6.0 Stiffness.
2. Woods/Hybrids: None
3. Irons: Callaway Mavrik (4-PW)
4. Wedges: Cleveland RTX-4 (52°,56°,60°)
5. Putter: Cleveland Huntington Beach #11
6. Ball: Callaway Chrome Soft Triple Track

I have at least two clubs at the top of my bag, maybe three that I need to fill. Just began playing in November, 2020 (around 2-3 rounds per week). 110-115mph driver club head speed, and working at a loss whenever the distance to pin is 220+. Would love any suggestions for the remaining items for the bag. Thanks y’all. Here are my distances. Might have the lofts weakened to help with gaps.

• Driver- 300 carry
• 4 iron- 240(struggle w/ longer irons)
• 5 iron- 230(struggle w/ longer irons)
• 6 iron-220 
• 7 iron-200
• 8 iron-180
• 9 iron-160
• PW- 140
• 52- 120
• 56- used for everything in between
• 60- anything loft within 50

Howdy.  I just replied to you introduction post and now see this... and these numbers.  Now I'm really jealous .  I presume these are all average carry distance and based on a fairly good size sample set using a LM?  If not I'd start there to assure a solid basis. Most say the ideal gap is 10-15 yards, so you do have a bit more spread on your scoring arrows than ideal.  For the space between the 4i and driver, I'd suggest a 3w or 5w for sure.  Then perhaps a crossover, utility iron, or hybrid that gets you the yardage and better out of rough playability.  Not sure about adjusting the loft on the Mavrik's ... I'll leave this for some of our equipment specialists.

These are all recorded as carries on a Trackman at my local fitter. I have a pretty steep angle of attack, I believe. So, I think I’m more confident with my lower irons and less confident with longer irons. I’m going for a fitting tomorrow to look at hybrids vs fairway woods vts utility irons. The length of gaps have been difficult, but I think it needs a bit of practice and perhaps more consistent strikes.

IMHO, you can see if you can find easier to hit 4i, 5i but keeping the same distance and just add a hybrid or FW to reach Par 5's in 2... lol your 4i is longer than my 3W... not even sure you need one...

I hope you've found something suitable. You probably just need a 4 or 5 wood, or a 2 or 3 hybrid. Your gapping is just like PM. Good luck!

Replacing my 4-Iron with a hybrid was a good choice in my bag. I usually use it out of bad lies, when a long-Iron might not get to the ball or too much grass would be in-between. Since you don't seem to love your long-Irons, maybe worth a try.

Lots of options for that gap, that being said it will be few and far between you'll need those clubs with those distances. I love my crossover from ping, I have a 4 and 2 iron. Helped with more consistency as a 4 iron and still good to look at. The 2 crossover is nice and had some great rounds, but isn't the easiest club and I would likely go for a hybrid. Best thing you can do is go back to your fitter try a bunch of different clubs and setups and see whats best. We have started to see a lot of 5 woods going into bags so maybe thats an option?

So I'm in a similar ball park with some similar issues... Here's what I've done and my though process.

1. Replaced the 4 iron with a driving iron... it's not a huge difference, but I found it gave me some more forgiveness and added a tee club I can hit lower shots with... It's great into the wind. I don't tend to hit my 4 iron that often, as my home course is 6,700 yards, so it's just not a shot I need a ton (occasionally I'll have it in to a par 5)... I also love it for low punch shots out of the trees. At 110+ CHS, I'm in the trees occasionally.

2. Found a hybrid I get along with. I think this is partially a shaft issue, but I also just like my hybrid. I'm playing a 19 degree Sub70. I don't have the lefts with hybrids, but this is built to help prevent them... I think it's a great club... but a "3 hybrid" is definitely worth having in the bag. Launches high and lands soft... it's basically the opposite of my 4 utility.

3. I'm still searching for a good 3 wood. I really just want a secondary tee club that lands and stops... and possibly a secondary option for when my driving is on the fritz. I've done a couple of experiments here, but haven't really found anything great. I'm probably going to reshaft the 3 wood I have with a higher launching shaft... I'd REALLY like a 2 wood, but they aren't really made anymore... At my length and skill, I'm not chasing down par 5s with a 3 wood with any regularity (by that I mean I'm not good enough to hit a par 5 in two from 250 with any consistency), so it's not really a fairway club... A secondary tee club that puts me in the middle at the cost of 25+ yards is a wonderful trade off for me... I have enough holes on my home course that this would make sense... It's still a unicorn, though. I haven't found one.

I think both ends of the bag come down to personal preference and what courses you are playing. If you play the same course 80% of your rounds, it makes sense to have a club that is GREAT for one hole and OK for the rest of the course... My bag is basically set up to give me the best scoring options on the course I play most frequently... It will travel fine, but it's built for one course.
