2021 Official Review: Motocaddy M5 and M7

Got out for 18 this morning and was getting a ton of compliments today. People seem to really like the bag a lot and had quite a few people make jokes about me chasing the cart. Now that it's getting hot outside I can really tell the difference using the M5 vs having to push my other cart. It's going to help out a lot with those middle of the summer rounds when it's 100 degrees and humid.

I was really glad to have the accessory pack with me today. I was able to using the phone holder to take some videos of my swing. Only negative thing that I can say is that I hit a big bump and my water bottle flipped over. Not a big deal because it was closed, but I'm hoping that once I get the xl cup holder on there maybe that will weight it down more to where that won't happen. Still really loving the cart though

I think with the way the XL holder is designed it should not flip over as easily. The XL holder is taller so the bottom is much lower than the attachment point. Should keep your bottle from flipping over!

Alright so the XL drink holder came in today...

20210520_185600.jpg.75944079b3091371cc270e0db27c4920.jpg

This is the only package I got from Motocaddy so far that I would say is a bit flimsy for shipping. Everything until now was packaged extremely well except for this XL cupholder. The cup holder was shipped inside the retail box with no padding or cushioning inside. The accessory kit was also shipped in the retail box but the items were packaged in a molded cardboard tray.  Maybe Motocaddy can make a similar molded insert for the XL cup holder too? Seems like a bit of a risk to ship in this box with no padding as we all know how careful UPS/Fedex/USPS is with our packages. I mean just look at this Sub70 box I got the other day. One section of the box was completely crushed in. Luckily it was the grip section of the box and there were only 4 clubs (demo clubs) in there so no damage. I guess since the cupholder is pretty light and somewhat flexible there isn't too much risk of damage but I would recommend buying in the store if possible and if ordering online definitely check the package for damage upon arrival.

As for the XL, it is definitely EXTRA large. The original holder barely holds a 12 oz can of beer. This one holds my 40oz insulated water bottle with no problem. Original next to the XL.

Maybe since this holder is longer, it will be less top heavy and have less of a tendency to spin around the attachment point?

20210520_185649.jpg.c0d4a0157cdb2c16c93e18ca9dc4bb13.jpg

Here is a picture of a somewhat top heavy cup that is designed to fit into a standard cup holder.

20210520_191436.jpg.d97be32398870e60ae152dc48b2ca094.jpg

We shall see if both cups are able to stay in the holder without flipping over when they are filled with liquid. Overall though very excited for this holder mainly because it holds my big water bottle which I can now have sitting out vs having to dig into the side pocket for!

Believe it or not mine came today on Sunday. I knew it would be at least a couple of days after the West Coast guys. LOL the Fed ex guy was pulling up when I was parking just now back from Church.

So got in a round yesterday. Twilight prices at my home course are walk or ride same price so I took the cart, especially since I had my daughter with me and I don't know how well a 4 year old would do on an 18 hole walking around...

I realized I had not played in a cart in about 3 weeks...and it must have throw my rhythm off because I played terribly. I bladed short chip shots (which I have not done in months, even before the Motocaddy test), shanked a 60 yard full shot wedge, toed an easy bunker shot over the green, and all kinds of other simple errors I had not seen in a long time. Overall ended the day with a 101...my best round since starting the Motocaddy test, while walking was an 84 just a month ago...So the walking is definitely having a positive effect on my game as far as I can tell. I will be walking a short executive par 60 course next week for a Memorial Day fundraiser tournament for a veterans org I am a part of and let's see what my scores look like then. I am hoping to maybe get my first ace~! 14 chances to do it next week!

I've rode once in the last three months and I can't remember why I did it then.  I will say my round Saturday after walking Tues, Wed, & Thursday was kicking my butt due to it being hotter.  My four days (28+ miles) will be going down to three days for the next few months.

Edit:  I remember now.   I had a gout flare up and if you've ever had that crap you can understand walking is not your friend.

Walk as long as you’re body lets you.  Unfortunately my knees & hips said “no way” about 5/6 years ago.

Totally understand brother.  I've had three surgeries on my right knee to include a bilateral replacement, a torn meniscus, and finally a total replacement.  I have three long screws holding my right hip together so I'm sort of a bionic ole rascal on my right side.. 😁  Plus once you hit the 70 year old mark, many if not all of your moving parts are on borrowed time..... 😉   I'm pretty sure my right knee replacement will be worn out in a few years.   Not looking forward to that surgery again!

Just for future reference what is the best aftermarket provider of parts? Is there like a NAPA or Autozone brand for parts?

I have the new larger cup holder and I will check it out today. I'm also going to use the umbrella holder to give me a break while walking in the 90 degree temps!  When you don't have to push ya cart, you have the option to use a umbrella to protect your skin and stay a bit cooler.

Hmm would be interesting to see how that works with the remote. With my M5 since I need to be behind the cart for the most part I assume if I were using an umbrella for shade I would be under it most of the time. With the M7 remote, how far away is the cart from you normally during a round? I guess you can adjust the speed to stay under the umbrella as you walk?

You can also use "manual" mode with the M7, if you want to stay with it.  You can operate the same as you do the M5 with the dial on the handle.

Congrats to the whole team at Motocaddy!   That speaks volumes for the product.  Pretty cool that the testers get to test the best electric cart out there.  I have posted the review thread a couple times on FB when people are asking about the best electric cart.  Now I guess I have TWO links to post !!

Actually I just send the cart way ahead and I stroll along with my umbrella using my FREE hands.   Now if it was raining I would want to keep my umbrella and clubs in close proximity.

oh I get it. The umbrella holder just holds your umbrella while you hit...hmm never really thought about carrying the umbrella during rounds to shade from the sun but maybe next round I walk I will try it

Hey hey hey we don't all live by the cool ocean counties. Some of us live in the desert counties where it gets up to high 90's low 100's in the summer!

What I have done on my range sessions is tote it and walk my regular speed which is #3. When I get to the range I put my umbrella on the stand thing on the Motocaddy. Really the whole set up works well for me in the range club testing sessions. I can cool off under the shade make notes or weight changes. My cold water is at hands reach and I keep my note cards in the card holder and write on them. The bag deal really works well too. I keep the bag in the shop and load what ever clubs I am going to try out in that bag. The Motorcaddy bag stays loaded to grab and go with tees balls gloves etc. On Fridays when I am practicing my gamer stuff I just throw the Jones Bag or old Hoofer on it and go. I figure maybe in a month or so when the tourist golfers leave I may be able to walk my 5 hole rounds again. Yep the Motocaddy set up has helped me tremendously in my rehab.

Do not know what happened above. Dreaded double post.

Next is sorta embarrassing. Somehow I managed to turn the Motocaddy over and not sure how. Had did a big range session and had my Titleist Mini Staff bag on it with my 690 MBs in it. Did a extended range session for me. Went to the clubhouse to use the facilities. I did take the remote in with me. I do not honestly remember locking it. Came back out and found the Motocaddy turned over wheels sideways running. All the old fart Mens groups sitting at the tables laughing. They said it just started and ran jumped the curb and turned over. I do not know if I hit the go button on the remote or one of them messed with it. I righted it and no damage. I ended going back to the range no problem. Usually I hang the remote on the umbrella slot and lock it. What I do now is reach down and un hook the battery. If those old farts attempts to mess with it they do not have the sense of effort to plug it in. But then again the test goes on it is tough. So we know now it will survive a flip. LOL one of my old racing buddies will say " if it can be turned over Stu can do it" Yeah I turned a car over one night on the straightaway running by myself. That had an explanation I was setting the springs to get into the next turn and the RR tire blew and the rim bit into the dirt. The Motocaddy turn over had one of two reasons and so I eliminated both possibilities. Nothing in the design just human interference. And trust me if I have have heard the story one time I have heard it 50 times about the self propelled carts running in the lake somewhere. I told one of the old farts the other day that you must have been one of the 50 people around here standing around watching  that.  The story starts the same way always " When I was up North I saw"

Does anyone have a Tesla model 3? Does this fit in the trunk along with a set of golf clubs without having to take the wheels off the moto M7? If you have a picture also that would be awesome. Thanks

alex

Depends on the vehicle. If I clean out the trunk on my S-500 it will fit with a mini staff or Motocaddy bag. As SOP I put the folded up Motocaddy in the back seat wheels attached. No problem at all.  If when I need to charge it I can set it up to charge in the car. I have an inverter plugged into one of the back seat cigarette lighters. Have not had to use that option yet because the one time I charged it I did it at home. Did not need the charge I just wanted to guage battery use. I do take the battery out as the instructions say. The battery sits nice in the floorboard under it. The Motocaddy slides out with no effort even in the state my back is in. Unfold drop the battery in plug it up and go on after placing whatever bag I have that day and like they say motovate on over to the range or putting green

Even though we have ocean breeze here on the right coast oops mean East Coast the humidity is what gets us. For Ole Gray and the Georgia boys inland the humidity is worse.  In the summer I can go 30 miles inland and the humidity is killer. I have been there enough the desert heat is dry kinda like a furnace. Yep it dry but hot
