Monterey course recommendation

Recommended Posts

Going to Monterey for a few days this week, need a recommendation for Friday. We're already confirmed for Pebble (Weds) and Spanish Bay (Thurs), but need something for Friday.  Looking at:

Del Monte, Poppy Hills, Quail Lodge, Bayonet or Black Horse. Driving back to Sacramento, so any others on the way would be appreciated. If I had planned it better, Pasatiempo would have been it, but currently they're sold out for Friday.

Before anyone asks, we're not staying on property, but I was able to switch my Spyglass tee time for Pebble when I called to add a player to our group (the agent liked me, I guess).

Poppy Hills is a fun course. Good rate too if you are a NCGA member.

You can take the long way back to Sac and play Yoche DeHe...

Eagle Ridge used to be a good spot (but they had been doing some upkeep on the course a ways back, not sure if they are done). There is also San Juan Oaks. Bayonet Blackhorse are 2 of my favs in the area (actually playing Bayonet on 4/24). Less in the Monterey side, but could be on the way to Sac would be The Course at Wente Vinyards. or a quick detour over to Half Moon bay I would suggest Half Moon Bay Golf links (I preferer the Old Course - shorter but more character. Quick note, they do not have a driving range, but there is a little one about 5 mins away kinda tucked into the neighborhoods). Also a shorter, but pretty course is Cinnabar Hills golf course. You can also look at Coyote Creek Tournament Course (I wouldn't bother with the Valley Course)(The Tournament course is Technically "Private", but you can normally get times on it by calling them, or booking a tee time on GolfNow.com). Enjoy your trip!

Poppy is great. Blackhorse/Bayonet are great also, probably the hardest courses in the entire state. Del Monte is short but fun. Quail Lodge and Carmel Valley are both ok but the others are better. Those two get a little goofy on a few holes.
