Does anyone have a more in depth comparison of the version of the ZX5 driver he's using vs. the retail model?  He's playing the Srixon ZX5 T201 which appears to have a straighter top line, longer hosel and different head shape.

Who in their right mind would put lead tape on their Z-Forged irons? Yuck 🤮. Come on Hideki, they'll build them to your exact swing weight buddy... you're a golf rock star.

Something tells me he might have a new set before he hits the links again 😉 haha

You should look at some of Phil’s clubs over the years.

Perfect timing for Srixon.  This should add momentum to their recent uptick in popularity and sales.

I reached out to Srixon for answers on both these questions/comments.  Here are the replies form the R&D team.

Hideki is very particular about driver shapes. He prefers a contrasting face and topline to help alignment – his head actually has the PVD on the face removed. Hideki prefers a slightly larger address profile, and that is why he gravitated towards the ZX5 driver.

Hideki enjoys tinkering with his build specs. He will test different shafts, lengths, etc. Because of this, we always have lead tape around to help him perfect the feel and weight that he desires. Hideki has an incredible perception for feel.

Now the follow up question is how can we get one at retail?!? 🤣

Really cool insight and depth. I can only imagine having that level of perception with clubs... And the company to build all that for me. I know there are shapes and preferences I have, but they are no comparison to him or many others.

Buy one and take some sandpaper to the face! Start with 200 grit and work your way to 1000 and it will be nice and shiny haha

It was more than just the PVD finish being removed.  The top line is straighter and the shape is different than retail.  My guess is the shape is more symmetrical looking instead of slightly heel biased like the retail version.

I'm also wondering if the ball speed is higher on his.  Srixon was really trumpeting the rebound face but every review I've seen online, as well as the MGS most wanted testing, they're showing the Srixon fairly low in the pack in terms of ball speed compared to the rest of competition this year.

Considering his irons are individually milled for him they probably have a separate head for him in his driver as well.

Clearly Hideki is the antithesis of Andre Agassi 🙂.  I also suspect Srixon's Hideki-san team just got bonuses.
