Tarheelvolvo
Hideki Matsuyama has won the 2021 Masters tournament in historic fashion, becoming the first man from the Land of the Rising sun to win such a prestigious tournament. Let's see what equipment he used to achieve this great honor! If you couldn't tell from his hat, shirt, and above bag photo, Hideki is a Srixon guy and put them to good use. He is also a "mixed bag" player with a few other manufacturers represented. 03trdblack
Does anyone have a more in depth comparison of the version of the ZX5 driver he's using vs. the retail model? He's playing the Srixon ZX5 T201 which appears to have a straighter top line, longer hosel and different head shape. Tarheelvolvo 1 Quote My bag is a revolving door! Here are the replies form the R&D team. Hideki is very particular about driver shapes. He prefers a contrasting face and topline to help alignment – his head actually has the PVD on the face removed. Hideki prefers a slightly larger address profile, and that is why he gravitated towards the ZX5 driver. He will test different shafts, lengths, etc. Because of this, we always have lead tape around to help him perfect the feel and weight that he desires. Really cool insight and depth. I can only imagine having that level of perception with clubs... And the company to build all that for me. I know there are shapes and preferences I have, but they are no comparison to him or many others. Quote as of Nov 6, 2023 (Past WITB) Driver: Paradym TD w/ GD ADDI 6X Driver Shootout! My guess is the shape is more symmetrical looking instead of slightly heel biased like the retail version. I'm also wondering if the ball speed is higher on his. Srixon was really trumpeting the rebound face but every review I've seen online, as well as the MGS most wanted testing, they're showing the Srixon fairly low in the pack in terms of ball speed compared to the rest of competition this year. Considering his irons are individually milled for him they probably have a separate head for him in his driver as well. 03trdblack 1 Quote Driver: PXG 0811 X+ Proto w/UST Helium 5F4 Wood: TaylorMade M5 5W w/Accra TZ5 +1/2”, TaylorMade Sim 3W w/Aldila rogue white Hybrid: PXG Gen2 22* w/AD hybrid Irons: PXG Gen3 0311T w/Nippon modus 120 Wedges: TaylorMade MG2 50*, Tiger grind 56/60 Putter: Scotty Caemeron Super Rat1 Ball: Titleist Prov1

Clearly Hideki is the antithesis of Andre Agassi . I also suspect Srixon's Hideki-san team just got bonuses.
