Best Car to Carry Your Clubs?

Recommended Posts

For me it has to be a minivan. I first bought one reluctantly after we had our second kid within 11 months of having our first kid…ooops. So needless to say double strollers and other bulky items were now needed to be hauled around town. It wasn’t until my annual golf trip that I realized how great my then Chrysler town and country was for golf. It carried 4 guys, 4 golf bags, all our luggage and coolers, drinks, snacks etc with ease. I’ve since gone through a few more minivans since I lease them and the have all been great, the Kia Sedona, a Chrysler Pacifica and my latest is a Toyota Sienna hybrid which while the cargo hold is a little smaller than the previous models it makes up for it with crazy gas mileage lol. Don’t sleep on the minivan for golf!

I prefer a nice sporty hatchback or compact AWD wagon for both transporting my golf clubs (and those of at least two of my golfing buddies) and for my musical instruments and band gear (I am a bass guitarist).  I’ve driven this car from NJ/PA to Myrtle beach with two golfers and their gear for a week-long golf trip, and it was VERY comfortable, plus it held our bags/suitcases, snacks, cooler, and provisions …. and the other guy was 6’5” tall and about 275 lbs.

My wife drives that Volvo.  It's nice, but the back seat has to be down to haul clubs and luggage.  When we go on long trips, I like to put all luggage and our clubs in the trunk of my Charger... out of sight!!!

Agree with preferring a sedan for travelling with golf clubs. Haven't found a trunk big enough  since our 2006 Malibu. Will have to check out the Impala (always buy used)

Possibly. '19 & up is a different gen though so it's possible they could have changed it. Great cars IMO.

The Grand Cherokee carries several bags with no problem.

The little vintage roadster, about to be tucked in for the winter, has to carry them on the passenger side.

Better to leave the sticks in the bag room.

I like this thread. Some sweet cars and everyone has their own and different needs.
mine happen to be needing/wanting to pull travel trailers motorcycle trailers etc, so a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi and a topper on the back keep things dry and locked up.
wife's club hauler is a 2008 Toyota Sienna mini van. She been looking at a new hauler but can’t pull the trigger on anything yet.
kids are out of the house but she’s on an electric kick. The golf clubs aren’t easy to get in some of them and others she just doesn’t like.

... This thread has me thinking I should have tried the trunk before ordering my Mustang Mach E SUV. I just assumed the trunk would be bigger than my Genesis G80 that works fine for my MGI Zip remote cart and 2 golf bags. I ordered it in March and still no delivery date due to the chip shortage but at least I can drop the rear seats if needed.

for so many reasons.

first, i can’t tell you the last time i was actually at a dealership other than to pick up the car i ordered and paid for.  we shopped online through apps for my wife’s last two cars and they were delivered to the house. for mine, i just work with my guys at either of two dealerships directly and i don’t show up until the car is there

second, i mainly choose a car based on how it looks. i couldn’t care less if i have to lay a seat down or take a club out of the bag. if it mattered to me, i’d take my work truck to the course.

the idea that there would be a car someone absolutely loved but they passed on it because their clubs didn’t fit perfectly, or even worse because their wife’s clubs didn’t fit is preposterous to me.

I felt this way until my last car. It was a pain to get them into the trunk (Infiniti G37) had to angle, sometimes the driver would get caught and bend, and I could only fit 2 sets in because of the width. Now its not an issue with a truck bed BUT if I ever went to a car again (which I am not) I would definitely bring a set next time. Most of my decision though is looks.

Next car I get is going to be a classic anyway, plenty of room in those so I wont need to worry. Only 70k 😄

When your clubs aren't hidden from sight then you are inviting broken window theft, and all the mess that goes with it.  Perhaps it depends on how much golf you play.  If on the way home from the golf course you want to meet your buddies at JP's Roadside Tavern for a beer or you just want to quickly run into Walgreen's to pick up a prescription you are putting your car windows and clubs in jeopardy.

Amen, brother!
