You should have heard the guy sitting next to me at the Rays game last night.

😞

I’m enjoying watching the golf at a course I know fairly well. I’m astounded at how well these guys are playing, particularly at their ability to get back into a hole after missing a green or fairway - that place is brutal when you miss a green.

Yea, pro level "scrambling" really doesn't look like the scrambling we do.  Another thing they do that amazes me is just how accurate they are (target line) on short chips and sand shots... they pull those off better than most amateurs putt.

Tough to criticize Stricks, he seems to be pulling all the right strings.  It looks to me like a lineup built to snuff out any momentum for the Euros if they were able to build some early.  5-8 in the US lineup looks incredibly stout.

Hard to fathom Team USA not able to get 4 wins out of these matches.  Perhaps the bigger question is how soon is it over?

Cantlay vs Lowry should be a great match.  Scheffler, I like him, but I don’t see how he beats Rahm…the flat stick is not Scottie’s strength, and Rahm has been dropping bombs from all over the place.

What I really question is Padraig going with McIlroy first.  If you’re trying to put blue on the board early I’m not sure that’s how you do it.  Granted, he must feel like he has to get something from Rory to have any chance.  The guy just looks listless out there.

Though I am not a fan of team golf like the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, etc. - I have to admit I watched quite a bit of Sat and Sun. It helped that the course was so fascinating and tough, and of course it's more fun when the "home team" is doing well. I couldn't watch the fiasco in Paris in 2018, but I'm sure most Europeans thought it was great (understandably). It's good that the USA has a lot of new blood for Ryder Cups, it was time.

Very impressive.  I hope these guys take more away from this than just the win.  A new nucleus in American Ryder Cup golf has been formed no doubt. We even saw a Brooks/DeChambeau hug. That's important. They need to move past the petty BS and keep this feeling fresh... Team Euro will be hungry and wanting revenge in Rome.

Just now catching up, had to DVR and wait all day….I was way the hell wrong about Scheffler, wow!

Stricker really nailed the Captain’s picks.  Harrington, not so much.  We’ve likely seen the last of Westwood and Poulter as players at least.

I was disappointed by the lack of coverage during the singles today. I don’t think I saw Westwood take more than one shot, etc. I get they were covering the “names” and trying to capture the deciding match, but once everyone is on the course, I would’ve liked to have seen more broad coverage. Heck, even Koepka was hardly shown.

I agree, I was really disappointed with NBCs coverage.  I’d rather have Joe Buck and Fox if it meant less commercials.  Also, I thought Kay Cockerill was pretty awful as an on-course announcer,  the fall off in quality insights from Bones and John Wood to her was noticeable.

So my head’s already on 2023 and Italy.  I really think the US has a chance to turn the page and run a string of American dominance, but I do think whoever the next Captain is needs to pay attention to “horses for courses.”  Furyk didn’t in France and his picks got crushed; Stricker clearly went for distance and set up the course accordingly.  In Europe they’re going to pinch the fairways and slow the greens, so maybe not all of these guys belong on a team built for an away game, where driving accuracy will matter more?

And who will be that next Captain?  Stricker captained the Presidents Cup, then the Ryder Cup.  The last Presidents Cup Captain?  Tiger Woods baby.
That said, I’d still love to see Freddy get a shot at a Ryder Cup captaincy, but that time has probably passed.

Great win for U.S.A!  So not to jinx them, I decided to pick Europe to win and, and and Rory!!  🤣  I thought it would be close.  I was impressed that they looked like a real team all week, instead of a bunch of top golfers.  Got to hand it to Stricker.  I'd vote to have him give it another try in Italy.  I think the USA has a young, quality core of talent to build upon.

You prefaced this thread by saying "it's never to early".... 🤣.  While Stricker downplayed a repeat at the helm, I'm sure he'd do it if asked.  Lots can happen in 2 years as it pertains to whose playing at the top - on both teams.  It will be interesting to see if that average 8.3 OWGR for Team USA is anywhere close to that in September 2023.

We got blown away.

To a man the US team turned up and played. DJ was immense, from the shadow of the player in Paris. Cantlay, Morikawa and BDC undefeated. They were unrelenting any points Europe won were all hard won.

We can try and dissect Europe's performance for me McIlroy's form on the 1st 2 days was crucial, losses of 5&4, 5&3 and 4&3 from one of the lynch pins of the team. His tearful interview at the end showed his thoughts on his performance. But form is temporary and class is permanent.  Would it have made a big difference to the end result I don't think so and is maybe wishful thinking.

Onward and upward, if weather permitting off to St Andrews to watch the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at the end of the week

Rory has been off the entire second half of the season so as surprising as his results were they shouldn’t have been, really.

This could be the start of a trend or not - I know of several very good you f Euro players, throw in Rahm and Rory as the veterans - I wouldn’t be writing their obituary so fast.

If I’ve learned one thing in all professional sports it’s that no one is as good as they look when they are winning big or as bad as they look when they are loosing big - except the Orioles on baseball and Giants in football. Both are miss managed messes. 🙂

I think you let Stricker have another shot then give it to Tiger in 2025 then Phil in 2027

In the presser they ask about Stricker going a second time. He answered that it’s already set, and that he’s good. Sounded relieved it was over, almost like, “Um, thanks, but they can have their turn now.” One was enough is what I heard, and it wasn’t a coy, politically correct response. I could tell he wouldn’t really want to run it back, not in a bad way, just relief it was over.

We had Sky Sports commentating on the NBC stream and the coverage was pretty bad. They had 4 games to cover on the 1st 2 days and struggled to get any continuity. The split screen stuff was just gimmicky and added nothing. Our on-course commentators held it together with Rich Beem and Wayne Riley but Paul McGinley and Butch Harmon in the studio were very poor.

For me the on course guys are there to give a player's eye view and the studio to weave the narrative i.e have a holistic view of what's going on as the games and match unravel. I don't need to be told that when someone puts it in the water at 5 that they've put it in the water at 5.

I also struggled with the graphics yesterday, for example it would tell you Garcia was one down and putting to win the hole after not seeing him for 15 minutes and you're expect to remember he is playing DCB.

Really spoiled it for me, I'm sure if the coverage was better I would have enjoyed getting pumped by the US better.
