New Wedge/Shaft Help

Recommended Posts

So, I am replacing my current Cleveland 56* and 60*. I've decided to experiment with Edison and give it a shot with the 55* and 59*. Being that you can't get fit with these I am looking for some general rule of thumb help on selecting shafts for them. Like I said I currently game Clevelands that were bought off the rack. I was fit into Modus 120x last year for my irons and love them. So my options as I see it are:

1. Go with the stock KBS Tour 120 stiff that Edison offers?

2. Upgrade($15/club) to match my Modus 120x?

3. Upgrade to Modus 120 stiff, as I've read dropping a flex in shaft irons?

4. Upgrade to the Modus 125 Wedge shafts?

5. I hit my 56* mostly for full shots, so I could split the 2 and upgrade to Modus 120x in the 55*, and the Modus 125 wedge shaft in 59*?

So, if there are any wedge/shaft gurus out there that could point me in the right direction, or anyone who has experience with wedge shaft tinkering I'd appreciate it. TIA

Safest bet is to upgrade in to Modus 125 wedge. Slightly heavier and slightly softer than your iron shafts, which is pretty much the exact direction a fitter would steer you into

Modus 120 is probably my favorite iron shaft after my Obans. I got fit for irons and wedges a few years ago and Modus 125 was the best feeling and best performing wedge shaft I tried.  If you like your Modus 120x shafts in your irons then I’d bet good money you’d like 125 wedge in the wedges

Well after calling they wanted $50 per club for the upgrade to the Modus 125... so I'm back to the drawing board. May consider the Zipcore tour rack raw and get the grind/shaft/grip I want.

So I had emailed Edison not to long ago because I was considering some exotic graphite shaft that they didn't have available. They said they would sell me heads only for $129. Then I could go and buy whatever shaft I wanted. Keep in mind the Edison heads are 0.370, so you will need to shim the modus 125 wedge shaft if you got one.

Thanks for the heads up. They mentioned that on the phone. Not sure I want to go through the hassle, plus you lose the warranty when buying just the head.

The Zipcore DG Spinner shafts are 128 grams which is a bit heavier than your irons, but that is normal.

Well I don't have problem spend $150-$200/club. I can do a full custom going Cleveland Tour Rack Raw Zipcore for in that range. The Edison with the shaft/grip I want would be closer to $250/club. I think Vokeys are in that range also?

Add me to the Modus 125 Wedge club.  It was the best performing and feeling for me in a fitting.  I'm also using Modus 120x in my irons.

As you mentioned Cleveland does have the shafts available and I know Cobra does as well as a no charge option.  But if you're set on Edison I think it's worth it to do.  All depends on what your budget is.

Will Edison double soft step the Modus 120X for the $15 upgrade price? That would probably work well too.

Yeah, no offense to Edison, but they aren’t worth $250... plenty of good options for less.

I think the modus wedge shaft or the 125 stiff makes the most sense... It’s the commonly suggested setup.
