Popular Post Golfspy_CG2
MGS is taking al already great series in Ball Lab to the next level, with the introduction of the Ball Comparison Tool. See link below. Also I should give a shout out the forums very own @TR1PTIK who began a very similar project of his own to track and compare the results of the Comparison tool that he has been updating here. Whether it was the inspiration to the MGS staff or not, I can't honestly say, but kudos to him for being a trendsetter. On to the actual results, I think it's going to start some pretty interesting conversations. No doubt which company makes the highest quality ball after looking at this tool. https://mygolfspy.com/ball-lab-golf-ball-quality-comparison-tool/ GregGarner, TR1PTIK, RickyBobby_PR and 7 others 9 1 Quote G430 Max 10K TSiR1 15.0 Aldlia Ascent 60g TSR2 18.0 PX Aldila Ascent 6og TSi1 20 Aldila Ascent Shafts R T350 5-GW SteelFiber I80 SM10 48F/54M and58K S159 48S/52S/56W/60B Select 5.5 Flowback 35" ProV1 Play number
Golfspy_CG2
My biggest initial takeaway is the Wilson Staff Model ball, being the highest quality ball behind all the Titleist balls. I think this speaks volume for the ball and Wilson. With so many of the other companies touting the quality of their processes, it's really cool to see Wilson do so well in that regard for a ball that at least from my knowledge is not produced at a company owned plant in the US. tony@CIC, bens197, TonsofSteel and 4 others 7 Quote G430 Max 10K TSiR1 15.0 Aldlia Ascent 60g TSR2 18.0 PX Aldila Ascent 6og TSi1 20 Aldila Ascent Shafts R T350 5-GW SteelFiber I80 SM10 48F/54M and58K S159 48S/52S/56W/60B Select 5.5 Flowback 35" ProV1 Play number

Honestly, I just saw a need (perhaps more of a want) from a number of forum users and blog commenters, and thought I'd try to help. It was something I enjoyed working on, but I am happy about the release of the official comparison tool. Tony has and continues to do a phenomenal job with Ball Lab. My only gripe is the yellow color (which I prefer to play) is painted on so the finish can start to come off unlike the Srixon or Titleist yellow balls where the yellow is the color of the urethane. fixyurdivot 1 Quote My bag is a revolving door! GolfSpy_APH
Was a good read and cool to have that info right at our fingertips. Was nice to see both the balls I normally play (TP5 and Zstar) very close and have solid ratings. Once again more honest reliable info provided by MGS with easy access for all to see and read to make the best possible choice suited to their game. KC Golf
I tried the Srixon Z Star last year after the MGS review. I had never played Srixon Z Star before and I have never had a friend game them either (never found a Z Star either), so I was really surprised how much I liked it. I usually used a Titleist Pro V1x or TP5x, but they are pricey. So I will definitely try a box of Maxfli Tour and Wilson Staff this year. I will definitely try the new 2021 Z Star too, but it appears to be pretty similar to the old Z Star from the initial reviews. But it will be hard to beat the old Z Star on price and performance. I don’t think the tool tells you to stop playing the ball. The tool provides information gathered from an assessment of golf balls. You determine how to use that information. If you like the bridgestone ball, it does what you want performance wise, and is available then continue to play it. If you find the ball performance to be inconsistent from ball to ball then you can use The chart that maybe rates a little better RickyBobby_PR 1 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: TM-180 Testing: Backups: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017

txgolfjunkie
What's great about this tool, the individual ball lab reports and the extensive ball test a few years ago is that anytime I hit a bad shot, I blame the ball. ChitownM2
I know it is hard to quantify, but how much of a difference do the scores/defects found in ball lab really affect things on the course? For example, I like the Z-star XV (2019) and it was rated as "Very Good" in the April 2019 Ball Test which was the second highest rating for balls tested. Fast forward to 2021 and the comparison tool and I see that the 2019 XV has one of the worst scores ever and probably the worst of any "tour" ball. Obviously in this specific case, the defects found didn't really translate to actual issues playing the ball as demonstrated by the robot test. Unfortunately, the 2019 XV didn't get a full review so I don't know what the actual defects were causing the low score. Also, where is the thread for asking ball questions to Tony Covey? I'd love to hear his answer on this one....
