St. George Weekend Golf Trip (3 Days, 5 Rounds)

This past weekend, my 3 closest golf friends and I took a road trip to St. George, Utah. This was a dream trip for me as some of the courses down there have potentially the most incredible back drops I've ever seen on a course, and they're all within 30 minutes of each other. We fit in 5 rounds at 5 courses in 3 days for around $600 total INCLUDING THE HOTEL! Here's the itinerary, and I'd be happy to make some epic food recommendations (beware the Indian food mid-round comeback). I'll post the approximate prices and my scores. We played the tips and they are pretty savage on a few of the courses. I'm an 8 handicap so for what it's worth, even the tips at over 7K yards were super fun.

Day 1:

Morning Round: Copper Rock (immaculate condition) - $125 (most expensive round) - Shot an 83 (drive was just working)

Afternoon Round: Sand Hollow (most epic back 9 I've ever played) - $80 - Shot an 82

Day 2:

Morning Round: Coral Canyon (Longest course and hardest handicap) - $100 - Shot an 85

Afternoon Round: The Ledges - $80 - Shot an 82

Day 3:

Morning Round: Sky Mountain (Incredible back 9) - $75 - Shot a 90 (Way too many beers on the front 9, but I was sad the guy's trip was ending!)

Hotel: The St. George Inn - $140/person (two rooms, four beds, and four guys)

All-in-all, it was an incredible weekend, and I can't express how amazing the quality of courses, course condition, and bang-for-your-buck this trip is. I'd definitely drink a little less on your last round unless you're like me and you don't have to drive home! The trip was in April and the weather was in the mid-70s the whole time. A few pictures below only show some of the beauty!

Cheers

You definitely picked the cream of the crop in St George. Would also suggest Sunbrook GC. (the best of the "city courses") three distinct nines for 27 good holes.  Not quite as upscale as either Copper Rock or Sand Hallow but IMO well worth it and every bit as good as ledges or sky mountain.  We do a guys trip there every year unfortunately this year we got the worst week weather wise in March. perfect weather the week before and the week after but nasty the week we were there even snowed our last day and we had to leave a day early. (it almost never snows there by the way)

Sand Hallow should be on anyone's bucket list if they're ever in that area of the country.  Loved that course!  I haven't had the opportunity to play the others you mentioned, but will look into them next time we visit southern Utah area.  I do enjoy the Mesquite courses when I'm down there, as well.

Looks like you had a great time!  Thanks for sharing!

Sand Hollow is fantastic, Coral Canyon a bit bland, had you ventured an hour west like some have suggested you could have played Wolf Creek in Mesquite, 1 of the most visually spectacular courses I have ever played

Agree on Wolf Creek.  Well worth the price of admission!

I want to play Wolf Creek so badly, but I would have had to add a fourth night.

Thanks for the info.  Headed down mid June for 3 1/2 days of golf. Sand Hollow is # priority.  I did get an offer from a guy on Golfwrx who works at the Ledges to play with him for cheap.

Not sure what else Im playing for sure.

Also looking at this as a potential golf trip location. At what point does it get too cold to play golf in St George? Based on weather averages I am seeing at various places it seems to indicate you can still play in October. FYI, I generally will play as long as it is above freezing. Is it super windy in Utah? We would be playing in September/October and would not want to get blown off the planet if at all possible.

Wind varies quite a bit in St. George. I'll say if you can get morning rounds every day you're there, the wind will be much better than in the afternoons. It picks up usually around 3 or 4 PM.

I've played Sand Hollow and Coral Canyon of those you have. Really need to go back. When I did my SG trip (live in Spanish Fork) we also played Wolf Creek in Mesquite. If you go back, don't pass up playing this course. I really want to play Copper Canyon next.

I played for a week there one year in late February, and weather was good.  One of the guys we played with was from N. Utah and spends winter in a condo in St. George.  Not exactly Phoenix or Palm Springs, but decent.  A buddy of mine from my course went to Mesquite for the winter and worked at a casino and played golf.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
