-D-M-G- 1
If I consistently pull or smother a driving iron, do I need a heavier shaft, more flex, lower kick-point, etc? Thanks in advance for any advise. David Quote Link to comment
RickyBobby_PR 10,184
More than likely that’s a swing issue and not shaft. Sometimes a shaft can influence how a person sequences a swing but without seeing either launch monitor numbers of your current setup and/or a swing nobody will be able to say or no a shaft change will eliminate that shot 2 Quote Driver: PXG 0811 X+ Proto w/UST Helium 5F4 Wood: TaylorMade M5 5W w/Accra TZ5 +1/2”, TaylorMade Sim 3W w/Aldila rogue white Hybrid: PXG Gen2 22* w/AD hybrid Irons: PXG Gen3 0311T w/Nippon modus 120 Wedges: TaylorMade MG2 50*, Tiger grind 56/60 Putter: Scotty Caemeron Super Rat1 Ball: Titleist Prov1 Link to comment

dlow206 10,970
Do you experience this with any other clubs or just the driving iron? Did you get fit for it or buy off the rack or maybe used? If this issue is limited to only this club, it is possible that something is really off on the spec with the club, like you expect it to be flat, but its actually upright, things like that. -D-M-G- 1
Thanks for all the responses! A bit more detail. It's only this club. If I address the ball with an open face or take it back a little outside, I can eliminate the pull/smother. Swing speed +/-90. It's the same lie as my other irons. Shaft is steel/stiff. For me, if I can't feel the head of the club in my backswing, I'm going to have a bad time... This is more a shaft balance issue than anything else... If I like the balance of the club, I usually hit it pretty decently. I'd suggest hitting some different shafted driving irons and seeing if you get along better with one than the others, and then look up the specs of that club... headweight, playing weight and shaft. I can't hit a heavily counterbalanced shaft at all. 1 Quote Mavrik 9 degree - Ventus Black 7X Mavrik 13.5 Degree - Hazardus Smoke Sub70 19 degree - Proforce V2 8F5 Sub70 4u - Proforce V2 8F5 Sub70 5i - DG S400 Adams CMB 6-GW - Project X 6.0 Sub70 54 (286) and 58 (JB Low Bounce) - S300 SeeMore Trimetal Mallet (Custom fit and built... -D-M-G- 1
More information for your comments. The swing weight is C9. The shaft is NZ+ (ZZ Lite) stiff steel. I want graphite, more weight, .355 and R flex. Any ideas? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
