Visio putting mats...Anyone

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I did a bit of research on previous forums and there hasnt been mention of the Visio putting mats for a while. The idea makes perfect sense. But how do I determine what angle to order? It has to be pure questimation, unless your a tour pro and a rep throws a bunch down for you to try. Has anyone had any issues with this practice tool?

Thanks

If you look at the page for the templates it provides fitting recommendations and how to fit for the correct one.

If you take a lesson or are measured using the CAPTO putting system, it will spit out all the parameters to determine the Vizio arc. This is the main tool or training aid the putting instructor used that I saw both for dry swing rehearsals and hitting balls (he uses CAPTO or SAM). I bought a Vizio mat and got away from using it. I brought it back out a month ago and would make 2-3 rehearsal swings along the arc, and then hit 1 putt down a metal yard stick. I set a record with 21 consecutive putts, 1 putt at a time this way. My previous record was around 7 and included hitting putts with no breaks where you could get into a groove.

If you want to take a guess on an arc, pick one of Class 2, 3, or 4. Class 5 would be a strong arc - Phil Mickelson Odyssey #9 style putter. Class 1 is as close to SBST as reasonably possible. 3 is average, pick 2 or 4 if you trend toward 1 of those ends of the spectrum. I believe I got the equivalent of Class 4 and I was usually on the threshold between "Slight Arc" and "Strong Arc" using the iPING putting app. So 3 would seem to correlate with "slight arc" on the PING fitting scale.

I have one from a See More Putter rep. Bottom line, if you can't read the green you're on, you won't make the putt! None of these "aides" will make the ball go in the hole!

I disagree with you a little bit on your statement.  I can properly read the green and still not make the putt.  Putting involves multiple skills  which include green reading, pace control, and stroke.  Stroke involves path and face control. I can even have all those right and miss the putt.  What a player needs to focus on is dependent on their skill.  Green reading skills are somewhat dependent on stroke and face control.  Meaning if you struggle with face control and start putts on a variety of lines, how do you know if the problem is with the stroke or read?   As a player you have to Practice all the skills and these help with the stroke.  Watch PGA players when they are practicing, they use all kinds of training aids; including the one being asked about.
