I'll take a different route from everyone else and say bring the Cobra set.  Being selected for the CCC is a great story for the course and the sooner you feel comfortable with the new sticks the sooner you can dominate everyone else in the challenge!

I’m with @Bucky CC in this one. You’ve been given an incredible opportunity here, and maybe this round with the extra pressure of wanting to perform well will be key on you gaining comfort with your Cobra gear.

Play the Cobra’s and let us know how they perform under pressure!

Cobras all day, given these to test, not even a hesitation IMo

I mean, I get your perspectives and obviously there's no right or wrong here, but imagine getting invited to a nice private club in your area that you're really excited to play, and then being told you have to play someone else's clubs.  Of course you'll still want to go, but wouldn't you feel like you were held back from getting the most out of the round?

The underlying problem is he's got shafts that don't fit him, and from what he mentioned earlier in this thread, he can't really sort them out without making some swing manipulations that aren't best for his game.  Completely agree that being selected is a coveted honor among us spies, but it's kind of a kick in the nuts to have this problem you know?  Given that the competition itself hasn't actually started yet, I can't see taking the Cobra's.

Again, no right or wrong here, and far be it for me to quibble with His Majesty CCC4 Champion @B.Bostonespecially.  🤣

Haha. No no. I’m not meaning to start any arguments just offering my opinion.

if I were him and had access to the right tools I’d swap shafts and make sure to note weights and save any tip weights or anything that needed to be changed and put those sweet iron shafts into the cobra heads.

but I don’t have the equipment to that myself so I can’t blame him there.  Other route would be to source from eBay and make a swap to a better fit. Prob wouldn’t cost much after resale of the ill fit shafts either.

@jlukes have you considered any options such as shaft pulls to swap in?

... Of course the opposite can happen. His opinion of the heads can (will?) be tainted by ill fitting shafts which would be an injustice to the heads. As you know the Cobra MIM's are my favorite irons so I would find the right shafts and maybe sell the pulls but I do my own work so easy enough for me to say. Having recently played a set of 588TT's with 85gm ill fitting shafts I absolutely hated playing them after loving them when I played them with 110 Recoil shafts. I feel for Joes predicament and no easy answers for sure...

As a teammate on the CCC take the cobras so you can get used to them for the challenge and help our team win!

That being said, the purpose of rounds like this is to enjoy it and if you won’t enjoy with the cobras, take your gamers and go low!

Great stuff man!  Really impressive numbers with the driver!

I got a little rollout from some of those drives and 1 cart path bounce, but still pretty impressed. Hope it stays that way. Thought it wouldn’t have a chance to compete with my Ping, but we will see.

Asked for the matte grey driver head and got the blue instead, so I might have to get a different headcover that matches better. Also got the 70g driver shaft instead of 60g, but I think that might end up being a blessing in disguise. Everything else (shaft and head) is what I wanted.

Glad they showed up! I'm a little bummed on your behalf that you didn't get a few of the things you requested, but like you said, the heavier shaft may end up working out better. With supply chain issues being what they are all over the place, I think we're all accepting that testers may not be able to get exactly what they asked for this time around. Hope everything ends up working out just fine for your swing.

Good first round with the new sticks!

I hit the woods much better on the course than I did on the range yesterday. Driver felt great, but I started to spray it a bit towards the end of the round. Putting is usually my strength, but it was absolutely atrocious today.

Overall though this gave me a ton of confidence moving forward with the new clubs! Vacation next week means a round with my father-in-law - he’s been busy with his business this year and hasn’t gotten out at all yet this season, so I’m predicting I beat him by 20 strokes I kind of feel bad - I remember when I started dating my wife I played a few rounds with him and he pretty consistently beat me, but that tables have turned there and I know it frustrates him, even though he’s way too nice to say anything. But I think it’s also a testament to where my game is right now - I feel confident over pretty much every shot I’m taking, even if it’s an approach from a distance I’ve never hit a green prior to the new clubs!

First round with the woods… if I could get off the tee in play I would be very dangerous. 5 OB penalties in a row off the tee! hit the driver about 25 yards further than my old one. The driving distance is a little skewed as a few holes I hit a lower club to try to stay in bounds

Put the Cobras back in the bag today after a great round with my gamers on Friday and the struggle was real on my way to the worst round I’ve played in years.

It rained quite a bit last night and I really struggled from the bunkers because the sand was either wet cement or the ball plugged in the bunker. That being said I was only in 4 green side bunkers because my iron play was again inconsistent at best

A64EF08A-0B74-48C9-90C1-74A42509AC31.png.2c6bfa085e670baf10aedee9ec5f82ec.png

I hit the irons well a few times and they felt great. The good news is I seem tone at least making more consistent center face contact now. Unfortunately I’m still struggling with timing these shafts and I’m still spraying the ball.  I’m going to have the lie angles checked because there does seem to be a predominant miss to the left. I am pretty sure it’s the shaft causing some poor sequencing and swings, but want to rule out everything else.

3 wood was the star of the show today with several fantastic tee shots and 2 great shots off the fairway. Really enjoying it and it’s firmly removed itself as the club I’m most nervous about testing.

I am 100% committed to this challenge and review. Just dropped over $130 to have all my cobra clubs regripped

They all came with Crossline Plus grips (wasn’t on my list of 4 grips choices). Love the crossline, but the Plus version has the bottom hand built up so it doesn’t taper  ( similar to the GP Plus4). This is great for some, but for me and my small hands (size small glove) it felt really unnatural gripping the club. After today’s disaster of a round I took my clubs to my local golf Galaxy where they had plenty of standard Tour Velvets in stock. After 20 minutes I got my clubs back and instantly had a sense of familiarity and comfort at address. I’ll get to the range tomorrow and see if it helps give me some better results, especially with irons.

We are getting close to having all the clubs in our hands! No one has received their bag yet. The only two people left waiting on clubs are myself and @Brian A

I’m waiting on my 3 and 5 wood. @Brian A is waiting on his irons.

Excited to get these challenges started!

I know that there are serious issues with supply, but to not be able to provide any of your top 4 is appalling. To substitute something with a different sizing is perhaps even worse. I would have thought they should have been able to offer a standard grip, even if it was an upcharge (that they really should cover)

I’d be very interested if they are substituting shafts and grips for normal customers.

Were the grips you had installed built in Arccos grips?

@Brian Aand @Mtbryant01, were  you told of the long delay when you ordered?  Nearly 3 months is getting crazy.

No bags yet seems very strange.I wonder if Cobra are expecting everyone to carry a loose pile of clubs around with them.

Unfortunately Cobra seem to be giving themselves a black eye.

I know that even last year there were supply issues for bags.

Fortunately for us we all got the Vessel Speedzone Stand bag as a substitute, but I remember going to the store to try and look at the lightweight stand and cart bag to look at colors and there were very few, if any in stock locally.

as I understand it grips are one of the worst right now for supply and any shafts from overseas.

Hopefully it gets better soon, but I’ve seen many OEMs quoting customers out to November for custom order lead time, and I can’t see another looming shutdown helping matters on that front.

difficult times indeed for the Supply Chain management folks.

I don’t think Cobra has any choice in the matter, unfortunately. If they don’t have things from their vendors & suppliers, then they can’t send them to the challenge members. I would have to think that they considered logistical issues with custom orders and potential problems before they agreed to hold the CCC with MGS this year. The timing delays stink, as do Joe’s concerns with his shafts, but it’s not like Cobra is sitting there saying “meh”. Their hands are tied in a lot of this I would think, based on my own experiences lately with order delays, product shortages, etc at work.
