A reason to like Jordan Speith

I agree. I know what you see and read about someone doesn’t necessarily reflect who they really are, but Spieth sure seems like a good person.

Spieth’s No Laying Up interview last week was something parents should play for their kids from now until eternity. His humbleness and willingness to shine a light on his own shortcomings is lost on most people in the social media/instant gratification age.

I worked at a restauarnt in a hotel a few  years back. We had a PGA tour in town and a lot of the players ate in our restaurant. Jordan won the tournamanet and celebrated in the Private Dining Room, he was such a nice guy, treated all the servers well and even signed a few autographs. He has been one of my favorite players since. couldn't ask for a nicer guy. 

 

Rory on the other hand... I hope his next losing streak is twice as long as his previous one.

That is a good response he had to his embarrassing moment.  I don't expect these guys or anyone else to behave perfectly all the time they are only human.  But I do look at the subsequent reaction and attitude toward making things right.

Funny how these perceptions develop. I have a friend who insists he watched Tom Watson cheat in person in a tournament, improving his lie in the rough. And another friend who was a diehard Jeff Gordon fan, until he met him in person, couldn’t stand Jeff from then on.

Granted I don't know Rory in person, but my perception of him has turned 180. He was my most disliked player when he started on tour, cocky, etc... fast forward to now and I feel he has matured, more humble and down to earth. Never thought I would be rooting for him, but here I am.

Hope someday I can start liking Spieth as well.

Rory may have changed since then, this was 7 years ago. Again my interaction was brief but I always feel you can tell a lot about people by how they treat waitstaff, housekeepers, etc...

Definitely. I don't condone mistreating others, but I also believe people can change (for better or worse), deserve a 2nd chance perhaps.

Hell, can you imagine being labeled as the next big superstar, 20 years old, taking Tiger head-on, with 100 million endorsement in your pocket? Not an excuse to be a douche, but somewhat makes more sense. But like they say "money doesn't buy you class"

Yea he could of even just been having a bad weekend or day. Truthfully I do not wish anything bad on anyone. I can only imagine how it would feel being 20 years old with those expectations.

I have never had good vibes about Rory, he has always seemed arrogant and entitled to me.

I’m indifferent re: Rory, but he sure came across as humble/grateful in winning the Wells Fargo two weeks ago - though he probably has a PR coach among his posse. Maybe his early success went to his head, but he’s had some droughts in his wins now, so maybe his perspective has changed. Getting married and having a child can do that too. Just a casual observation, I don’t follow Rory.
