If it ever came to the PGA Tour wanting to end the PGA as a major, they could do it easily. bens197 Posted May 19, 2021 Share Posted May 19, 2021 I'll choose positive more than negative and say the PGA Championship and now the Senior have both become recurring events in Rochester at Oak Hill CC, 5 minutes from home and 1 minute from work. 2003, 2013 & 2023 mean opportunity / opportunities to volunteer and or do a standby on a fire engine and watch some pretty darn good golf for a day or 7! The opportunity to have a major event only a short walk away is a bigger pro than any con I could fail to shed. Yup so all the ruling bodies/golf organizations run a tournament and it’s on the PGA tour schedule and nobody has gone to the PGA tour and said you should drop one of these events and make event X a major and you as the PGA tour run it. And nobody has given the PGA or any of the other majors a strong enough case for them to drop the event or to say the event is no longer a major or won’t be associated with the 2 big tours. benb1989 Posted May 20, 2021 Share Posted May 20, 2021 Out of all the majors I take the least amount of interest in the PGA. I couldn't tell you why, it just doesn't get me as excited. The Open and The Masters are my favorite, but sometimes The US open is equal to them depending on the course. I did think It was because The PGA was late in the year but even now its changed I dont find myself too bothered that I wont get to watch much of it due to other plans. I haven't even had a bet. I much prefer watching The Players Championship. Having said all of that, I wouldn't want to see the four majors changed or added to. Like it or not majors are a significant yard stick. While not impossible to replace - see the AMs out, Masters that Johnny come lately in it’s tough to monkey with them much. i agree that the move to May was good for the tournament - bad for me watching it though - stopped watching the Masters when I moved to Florida because I I can play 18 on Sunday afternoon in April - likewise in May. Very hot in June and July so it’s more likely that I will watch one or both of the Opens when it’s hot out.
