The humidity and temperature are probably not out to enough decimal places for Bryson's calculations!

Hey maybe he likes to use some really tiny units that need those decimal places. As we all know relative humidity is for chumps. We all know wet bulb temp is where its at.

I have a buyer for my NX9 Slope.

Am I excited about ordering an R1? Am I going to take my SkyTrak and add all my ball speeds and spin rates and launch angles for every club? Am I going to use slope and barometric pressure and dew point? And am I going to shoot the same scores I always do?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Anyone know what the Precision Pro Ace is??? It has Bluetooth capability. This is a pic from their app.

I think the ACE is a speaker...the only reason I say that is because I just downloaded the app, and went through the pre-start up info, like most apps have (one of those things you can skip if you want).  Anyway, the last swipe has a cartoon picture of both the rangefinder and the ACE...and it says, "Connect a Device - Own one of our Smart Rangefinders or Speakers? Link your device to the app here."  So, that lead me to believe that it's a speaker of some sort.  Probably comparable to Bushnell's speaker...I forget the name of it.

Yep, I just dug further in on the app and it's called, ACE Smart Speaker, and there is a remote for it as well.

Today was a PERFECT example of why this laser is going to be better than what I have: I have Arccos going for shot tracking, but also for the wind calculations. I have my laser out to get the distances to the flag, including slope. I laser the flag, then I check what Arccos shows as the distance adjustment for the wind. I’m having to use two devices! When the R1 arrives, I’ll be able to just zap the flag and get ALL of the data for wind, etc, and see front-middle-back. Going to be SO nice to not mess with two devices at the same time!!!! I can just let Arccos run for shot and data tracking. Can’t wait! I WILL miss the steadiness of the Nikon Coolshot Pro Stabilized, though....

My R1 arrived today! Here are some pics of the “unboxing”. This model does not have a battery, it has a USB charger instead, and the tip of the charger looks similar to my iPad Pro one. I’d rather a battery so I don’t have to worry about charging something before I play, but it is what it is. App is downloaded, so all I have to do is go try it on the course.4C080496-8760-4750-89CC-E66527573229.jpeg.445e9b730582befee12cd480faca5589.jpeg6542493B-3216-4BD9-9B91-D973B2C26D86.jpeg.63b22415c20595789b3a2692fea92a7f.jpeg5C3BC780-AF8A-4B2F-B6C7-3742FCE892AF.jpeg.9cbf0de3f5c3942e4040e6e7d4e4baac.jpeg1991AB5A-8BA5-49CB-8CED-95C448BFD5A4.jpeg.5d6432b74cc28689315d4d13e5705201.jpegE436DF7C-434F-45E6-BD91-6FA80DA23C36.jpeg.aa972139d78f0e2b824befa1fad4ddfc.jpeg

I have not, but I’d like to, I’m just not sure of how best to do it, and I’d have to pay about $75 for an hour of Trackman outside. My buddy who was in the Sr US Open has one, but he has NO clue how to set it up for gapping.

Could you just take 5 shots with each club to get those gaps even if it does not produce a report. Also that feels expensive, I am paying 50 and hour for GC Quad time, but that's another matter.

Yeah, probably what I’ll do. I may have an option in Mississippi, but on the back burner for now. Since I pretty much know my distances on all clubs except for the new wedges, it’s not all that important because I really don’t need the app to suggest a club.

Spot on! You could even take one swing with each club on a launch monitor as long as you believe it is your stock shot. We suggest you take 3-5 swings with each club that accurately represent how you typically hit the ball. Then enter your average carry distance, spin rate, launch angle, and ball speed for each club. This will provide you with the most accurate MySlope possible!

I just gotta figure out how to get the info the cheapest/most accurate way possible. Indoors on Trackman isn’t great due to spin being a “guess”, now after MGS Ball Test, using range balls outside isn’t great either except with driver, and I know no one with a GC Quad. So, will the numbers I enter even be accurate? I’ll probably not worry about it for awhile. I used Arccos for the wind calculation, and a laser for the flag distance, and combining info from both worked just fine since I know my iron distances. I should be good without it for now.

Thanks!!!

Great question! If you are worried about your Trackman data make sure to select the normalization option when exporting. This will allow your data to be adjusted if you are using a range ball, if there is bad weather, or if you are inside. Even if your data isn't as exact as you'd hope our MySlope formula still does a great job giving you accurate readings for your swing!

Took the R1 out for a quick 9 tonight. I didn’t select the wind and slope on the app… Ugh. Question though: if those are turned-on in the app, is the distance I see in the reticle adjusted for the wind? I know it is for slope…

Wind Assist isn't calculated into the distance. It is a separate number you see alongside your MySlope and distance. For example, you could see + or - 11 yards depending on if you are into the wind or down breeze.

Sounds like great information.   At the worst case it should be considered educational on how wind actually influences the shot.   Does the device measure the wind real time, is it based on weather forecasts, and is it at the location of the device or general wind information for the course as a whole?

Great point on how helpful it can be for someone to see just how much wind affects a shot! Our app uses a real-time weather API to get the most up-to-date wind information based on your GPS location.

I received mine last week while I was away from home. Opened it last night; this morning, I got out for my initial nine holes with the R1.

It...wasn't good.

Let's start with the impressive parts:

  • I like the build quality of the R1. The soft rubber finish is nice, and including it on the magnet as well is something I think is useful for giving it a more premium feel even when attaching it to a cart.
  • The unit is large—much larger than the NX9 Slope. But it doesn't feel unwieldy: the weight is not outrageous, and it fits nicely even in my smaller-than-average-hands.
  • It locked on to the target quickly and confidently.
  • The display is great, both the image and the numbers.
  • I'm a big fan of the slope switch: this is a major improvement from the NX9 Slope. On that device, not only was there no way for others to see whether you were using slope adjustment or not (important for tournament play), it was far too easy to inadvertently switch to slope mode. Precision Pro has fixed that entirely.

Now on to the not-so-good:

  • The GPS display on the rangefinder itself worked for only a single hole. The GPS was running on my phone; I could check things there. But hitting the GPS button on the device brought up a screen without any numbers on every hole but one. There was some connection issue, but I'm not sure what it was.
  • The GPS software itself needs a lot of work. I don't know if my course is unique on this, but it gives no options for tees. These leads to absurd results: the only hole on which the GPS numbers showed up on the rangefinder was a par 3. The laser said it was 160 to the flag (which was right); the GPS said it was 145 to the back of the green, because it was locked to the white tees rather than the blues that I was playing.
  • Much worse: the laser itself died after 6(!) holes. I charged the rangefinder last night until the app told me that it was at 100%. This could be my fault; perhaps it needs to be charged even longer. But for a first impression, this is obviously entirely a total deal-breaker. EDIT: It looks very likely that this was user error on my part. The unit needs to be charged until the indicator light stops pulsing, and I did not do that. I'm still confused as to why the app would say the battery is at 100% when it probably wasn't even close, but I'm going to give it a full charge before trying this again.

I haven't yet gone through and set up MySlope yet; I'm looking forward to doing that (with my Mevo+).

I'm certainly not ready to throw in the towel on this device yet. I'm willing to assume that the battery needs to be charged longer (though the app shouldn't report 100% battery if that's not true). But the software still needs a lot of work.

Some initial thoughts…

It’s light, and the magnet does a great job staying on the cart arm. Distances are given instantly, it seems, and the vibration is nice. I don’t have the steadiest hand and this does a great job anyway. I’ve been able to tell if I’ve shot past the flag and hit a tree in the background. Slope measurement is in the upper part of the view, I’d rather it be the number that’s straight ahead. The various modes are pretty cool- one can just have front-middle-back in the screen, or laser distances with/without slope. Moving between modes needs practice. Everything in the reticle is displayed in black, I miss the color my Coolshot Pro Stabilized had. The app is great as a GPS and has all of the maps, scoring, and shot tracking. They’re working on the app to make it better, but I’ll love it when the “tracked shots” are able to be seen independently in each separate round and not combined in one area. The app has a TON of potential!!! Distances that add/subtract wind seem to be pretty accurate, very similar to what I saw with Arccos Caddie.

So far, so good! I’ll add some screen shots from the app in a bit.

I wish it had a battery option….. I hate having to remember to charge something before I play/practice.

On balance, I kinda like the rechargeable option myself; I'm used to charging my iPhone before rounds for Arccos tracking. But obviously, I must have goofed on the charging this time.
