PMookie
Here are some images from the app. The laser connects to one’s phone via Bluetooth so they can interact within the app. Opening screen, select your device and the course you’re playing. Then make sure you’ve selected to add slope and wind, and the GPS map will show the distances, and has the wind calculation at lower left. This is NOT added/subtracted to the slope adjusted distance, we still have to do that calculation. The “pencil” icon at lower right os for recording your score on the hole, and the “club head” is for tracking shot distances. Select the hole, or it will automatically just calculate par and the standard 2 putts, then enter your score. Select if you’ve hit the fairway or not, and if it was right or left, then your GIR, and where you may have missed. Note, if you’ve accumulated penalty shots and don’t have a “shot” at a GIR, you select the small “X” icon left of GIR notating that. Then select “save hole” in the bottom right. The GPS will automatically go to the next hole. When the round is over, you can select “Stats” at the bottom of the main screen and then pull-up the scorecard. You can then see your stats for the round as well. Then, if you’ve tracked shots along the way, and you’d like to see them and the average, you go back to the main screen, select “My Slope”, then select the club, and you’ll see your tracked shots and averages. There you have it. Pretty good bit of information with lots more to come. Next time out I’ll try to remember to take some pics of the in-app GPS info. Plugged mine in before I left my office for lunch, and it's still pulsing. So it's very likely that it wasn't fully charged before I brought it to the course, which is what I hoped. That's a plus, begins it means that one of my complaints (the R1 dying by the 6th hole) is likely user error (I'll edit the post above to reflect that). I'll still say, though, that the app shouldn't read 100% if the battery is barely charged. DPattGolf
So I am getting the same battery issue with mine. Charged mine for a basically a completely day and it died on the 16th hole of my 2nd round using it. I can't imagine that the battery is only intended to supply enough charge for a single round or that the battery is somehow being drained in between rounds when not in use. Gonna try calling Precision Pro again today since I think they closed just before I called yesterday. If this is normal I'm going to be highly disappointed. Have really enjoyed the R1 but I can't enjoy it if I can't use it PMookie 1 Quote * Staff Professional* Driver: Stealth Plus+ (7.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Black 6X Tipped 1" 3 Wood: Stealth Plus+ (14.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Blue 7x Tipped 1" Driving Iron: P790 UDI 2 iron - HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 100 6.5 4 Iron: P790 - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (5-7) P7MC - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (8-P) P7MB - KBS C-Taper 130 X Wedges: MG3 Black 50.09 / 55.11 - KBS TOUR FLT 130 X 60* Wedge: High Toe Raw - KBS Tour 130 X Putter: Custom Black ER2 or Custom Black Del Monte Bag: FlexTech Stand Bag Glove: Tour Preferred Glove Ball: TP5X #11 RangeFinder: R1 Smart Rangefinder Instagram: @dpattgolf
null
This rangefinder really interests me, but I am starting to sway on the fixed battery. I always carry at least one spare rangefinder battery in my bag just in case my current batter dies (even thought that really only happens once or twice a season, max. However, with the R1 there is no backup option. Either it is charged or it isn't. And with only a couple of rounds per charge it seems like i'd be more likely to have it die during the round and left with no rangefinder. Yeah, it really makes me wonder why they made the decision to go batteryless. It’s a rare occasion to have a battery run out, and honestly, having to charge something before I go to the range is frustrating. DPattGolf
So I just got off the phone with Precision Pro's Customer Service. 2 big takeaways from the conversation: 1) They have noticed in their own testing that the rechargeable needs to be broken in with a few full cycles to get the most life out of the battery going forward. They didn't seem entirely sure as to why it starts out so poorly but have noticed the battery does improves with more use. 2) The expected battery life once the battery has been "broken in" is around 4 full rounds. I guess this is because the unit is drawing more power than past models due to all of the new advanced features such as the Bluetooth connectivity for GPS. Definitely a bit of a bummer but I can definitely adapt to start charging accordingly. I may start putting a battery bank in my golf bag for emergencies though instead of carrying spare CR2s PMookie, GolfSpy MPR and PrecisionProGolf 3 Quote * Staff Professional* Driver: Stealth Plus+ (7.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Black 6X Tipped 1" 3 Wood: Stealth Plus+ (14.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Blue 7x Tipped 1" Driving Iron: P790 UDI 2 iron - HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 100 6.5 4 Iron: P790 - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (5-7) P7MC - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (8-P) P7MB - KBS C-Taper 130 X Wedges: MG3 Black 50.09 / 55.11 - KBS TOUR FLT 130 X 60* Wedge: High Toe Raw - KBS Tour 130 X Putter: Custom Black ER2 or Custom Black Del Monte Bag: FlexTech Stand Bag Glove: Tour Preferred Glove Ball: TP5X #11 RangeFinder: R1 Smart Rangefinder Instagram: @dpattgolf

GolfSpy MPR
An update on mine: Like others, I just had mine die mid-round yesterday. This one seemed odd to me, in that it started the round with 3/4 bars of battery and then just completely quit. It's recharging now. Like others, I might start carrying a battery pack in my bag; I'm optimistic about @DPattGolf's post and hope that that turns out to be the case. On the usage side: I still haven't put my LM numbers into the app. Even so, to this point the GPS button on the R1 has given me data once, on a single hole. I'm wondering if this might be an Android vs. Apple thing? Is anyone else having trouble seeing GPS data on the rangefinder itself? PMookie
Went ahead and sent the R1 back today. The deciding factor was when I went to go play 9 at the drop-of-a-hat and the R1 wasn’t charged… It’s too much bother for me to always have to have it plugged-in “just-in-case” I might run to the range or go play. We are constantly trying to improve and hearing your experiences helps tremendously. A couple of things we have noticed is first, the battery life is increasing after initial usage. Once you have played a couple of rounds and recharged it, it will begin to hold the charge longer which means it will last more rounds. The second is allowing the app to track your location when it isn't being used. This allows us to get your GPS location on the course when your phone is closed that way you don't have to unlock it. A rangefinder that can do that would be huge for me, instead of trying to calculate the altitude adjustments in my head. A rangefinder that can do that would be huge for me, instead of trying to calculate the altitude adjustments in my head. It’s quite challenging to know what club to hit when you’re used to playing in the mountains, then try to play in the dense, humid air at sea level. Hi @scott80109, we have some answers! 1) That depends on the launch monitor you used. Most will normalize the data for you automatically. So your data should be good to enter! 2) Once you enter your data the R1 will do the rest and adjust according to your environment even if you are in the mountains, at sea level, or in humid conditions. Thanks. That is good to know. I just returned my Bushnell Pro XE and ordered the R1. The XE's "Elements" feature was not what I expected. It was giving me the yardage adjusted to sea level. Since I live and play at 6300', I don't really know how far my clubs go at sea level. Chris Z
Just received my R1 yesterday. I played 9 holes last night and 9 today. Both days I have had the same issue as other users in this forum. Here is a summary: The device constantly loses its connection to my phone and will not display wind or GPS data. I have to open the app and reconnect to the range finder. I have an Apple iPhone 12 pro and the location setting is set to "Always" and the "precise location" button is set to ON. I know the device is losing its connection to my phone because i get an alert saying I left my phone on a hole (which is great) but the range finder is on my cart within a foot of my phone. When the rangefinder was connected to the app and working, the wind data was not matching the info on the application. The app said -8 but the range finder was saying +6. I tried refreshing the slope on the app but it still didn't update. I never charged the device out of the box and it lasted both 9s, but I have a Garmin S60, so I don't go to my range finder as often as some. In the app, when I click "Find my Precision Pro" (Great Feature), the app shows a visual image of the last place your device was and if it is connected or not. There is a button called "Ping Rangefinder". Not sure what this does, as there is no audible tone coming from the R1, Although when you do click that button, I hear 3 very faint clicks on the R1 (and by faint I mean it has to be held right to your ear. I was really excited about this device, but hoping there is a way to correct the issues I am experiencing, otherwise I may go back to my old rangefinder. Used mine for the first time yesterday. It was pretty disappointing based on a couple of issues. 1) It would not show anything on the GPS screen. It showed in the app, but not on the device. When I pressed the power button for the GPS view, all fields just had dashes. 2) I had a big problem with the yardage on one hole. On a downhill par 3, it gave me a slope adjusted yardage of 145. I hit my 150 club, and flew the green by 20 yards. I'm pretty precise with my distances. Was that yardage adjusted somehow? I play at 6300' elevation, so I don't know if it did some kind of recalibration on the distance, but it was way off. Cost me 2 strokes. GolfSpy MPR
At present, my R1 is no longer functioning. It had some charge remaining yesterday. I plugged it in in my car on the way to the course today and it indicated that it was charging. But when I took it out on the first hole, nothing. I now have it plugged in in my office, and although it's been on the charger for about an hour (with the white indicator light pulsing), if I take it off the charger, it still shows nothing (and my phone can't find it). I just sent a service ticket request to PP. I was really intrigued by the data it provided and how it could help me play better golf by refining my decision making when it came to environmental conditions. Unit some of the bugs are worked out it is off the list so of equipment I am thinking about.
