@GolfSpy MPRThank you for the screenshot and information. Android does a better job of running apps in the background compared to Apple so the settings you have it on are correct. Do you mind making sure the app is completely updated?

I was really interested in getting one of these until reading this thread.  I may still get one to try eventually, but not until all the bugs are worked out.

 

Can this be connected to Bluetooth on a phone and have a speaker connected as well?  I didn't think more than one thing could be connected at once.

Hi @mikewohlwend glad that you are still interested! As for your connection question, you are able to connect to the R1 and to a speaker at the same time.

@PrecisionProGolf I live at 6300’, and have a couple of questions. 
 

1) When I put in all of my launch monitor numbers, can I put them in for my current location, or do they need to be normalized to sea level?

 

2) if I do put them in for my current location, will the R1 give me adjusted readings when I go play at sea level? A rangefinder that can do that would be huge for me, instead of trying to calculate the altitude adjustments in my head. It’s quite challenging to know what club to hit when you’re used to playing in the mountains, then try to play in the dense, humid air at sea level.

Hi @scott80109, we have some answers!

1) That depends on the launch monitor you used. Most will normalize the data for you automatically. So your data should be good to enter!

2) Once you enter your data the R1 will do the rest and adjust according to your environment even if you are in the mountains, at sea level, or in humid conditions.

Thanks. That is good to know. I just returned my Bushnell Pro XE and ordered the R1. The XE's "Elements" feature was not what I expected. It was giving me the yardage adjusted to sea level. Since I live and play at 6300', I don't really know how far my clubs go at sea level.

Just received my R1 yesterday.  I played 9 holes last night and 9 today.  Both days I have had the same issue as other users in this forum.  Here is a summary:

1. The device constantly loses its connection to my phone and will not display wind or GPS data.  I have to open the app and reconnect to the range finder. 
   • I have an Apple iPhone 12 pro and the location setting is set to "Always" and the "precise location" button is set to ON. 
   • I know the device is losing its connection to my phone because i get an alert saying I left my phone on a hole (which is great) but the range finder is on my cart within a foot of my phone.
2. When the rangefinder was connected to the app and working, the wind data was not matching the info on the application.  The app said -8 but the range finder was saying +6.  I tried refreshing the slope on the app but it still didn't update. 
3. I never charged the device out of the box and it lasted both 9s, but I have a Garmin S60, so I don't go to my range finder as often as some. 
4. In the app, when I click "Find my Precision Pro" (Great Feature), the app shows a visual image of the last place your device was and if it is connected or not.  There is a button called "Ping Rangefinder".  Not sure what this does, as there is no audible tone coming from the R1, Although when you do click that button, I hear 3 very faint clicks on the R1 (and by faint I mean it has to be held right to your ear.  

 

I was really excited about this device, but hoping there is a way to correct the issues I am experiencing, otherwise I may go back to my old rangefinder.

Same here. Used mine for the first time yesterday. It was pretty disappointing based on a couple of issues. 

1) It would not show anything on the GPS screen. It showed in the app, but not on the device. When I pressed the power button for the GPS view, all fields just had dashes. 

2) I had a big problem with the yardage on one hole. On a downhill par 3, it gave me a slope adjusted yardage of 145. I hit my 150 club, and flew the green by 20 yards. I'm pretty precise with my distances. Was that yardage adjusted somehow? I play at 6300' elevation, so I don't know if it did some kind of recalibration on the distance, but it was way off. Cost me 2 strokes.

At present, my R1 is no longer functioning. It had some charge remaining yesterday. I plugged it in in my car on the way to the course today and it indicated that it was charging. But when I took it out on the first hole, nothing.

I now have it plugged in in my office, and although it's been on the charger for about an hour (with the white indicator light pulsing), if I take it off the charger, it still shows nothing (and my phone can't find it). I just sent a service ticket request to PP.

Disappointing to hear the poor feedback on this unit.  I was really intrigued by the data it provided and how it could help me play better golf by refining my decision making when it came to environmental conditions.   Unit some of the bugs are worked out it is off the list so of equipment I am thinking about.

A bit more time on the charger seems to have (finally) revived it again.

But the battery issue makes this really tough to recommend. Even if the additional features don't work, the device has to cover the basic task (getting the yardage) well. The unpredictable battery makes that dicey. All else being equal, I would definitely recommend the NX9 (which I loved) over the R1 right now.

Whoa. I hadn't noticed that. When I contacted support about mine, they gave me a return shipping label, no questions asked.

Interesting.  You can still find it on the site;  listed on the bottom  of the webpage under products.   When you go to the page it shows that it is sold out but you can request info.

That’s very interesting if you go to the main product page from the menu of the website it does not list the R1 at all, but as you mentioned if you scroll all the way to the bottom in the fine print under products, the R1 is there.

I really wish they would retool it to use a regular rangefinder battery instead of the rechargeable version that doesn’t seem to work very well.

Thanks for the honest feedback guys, I almost ordered an R1 today and decided to see if anything was here on MGS.  I think I will wait and see if things get ironed out, especially the battery issues.  You guys rock!

I just had my first 9 holes with the R1 today...

Coming from Arccos the last 2 years, I was happy with how the R1 performed. Connection to my phone stayed up the whole time (Samsung Galaxy S21) and phone battery didn't drain at all. The app is fine, but I'm honestly not looking at my phone at all during the round which is why I am no longer on the Arccos platform. Which brings me to my one gripe...

The R1 and the app had a hard time switching holes automatically. Arccos definitely did not have this problem, it always changed holes automatically. 7 out of the 9 holes I had to open my phone and manually switch holes. This is very unfortunate and hope it works itself out.

I've had the R1 since Christmas now. I've tried it 5 or so times on the course. I've had the same issues with others about gps data flowing to the unit from Android. My location is set properly and app up to date. The only way data will go to the R1 is if I open the app while on that hole. If this was fixed, the R1 would be a fantastic rangefinder. Right now, I'm debating on just going back to the NX9.

Yeah. That is the only way I’ve gotten it to work.  Maybe my misunderstanding if it was made known that you have to have the app open snd running for it to work.   Matter of fact last round I judt used the app as the rangefinder dies after one use the day before and I didn’t charge it.  
 

I’ve since ordered a S62 and will just use that along with my Bushnell.   Probably sell the R1 for whatever I can get for it.
