Popular Post dlow206
Had my fitting for Edel wedges today with the Edel regional director of fitting for the PNW. His dad is a fitter for Edel as well, so actually both of them do the fitting as a team. Started out with some physical measurements to get my Bioswing Dyanmics profile. My profile was side-on. Based on that profile, the starting point is that the swing would be on the slightly steeper side, but not the steepest. I forgot if we started out with hitting shots to determine grind first or weight placement of the removable weights, but we definitely went through indepth for both. With the weights, they had me hit some shots at 60%, and they watched my ballflight, numbers on the Flightscope Mevo, turf interaction, etc. It was hit a few shots, and then move the weight around without telling me what the current weight position was. One weight position had significantly better results, it was the toe, 8 gram weight. Fitting for grind, we started out with one of the higher bounce grinds, but after hitting a few shots, the fitter said too much bounce. So we went to one of the lower bounce grinds, the T-grind, and that was where it was at. Lower bounce grind, weight in the toe, hitting darts with 60% swings and full swings. Was awesome. Also fit for shaft/shaft weight. Ended up fitting into the Modus 105 wedge shaft which happens to be the wedge shaft I have in my 54 and 58. The fitting was awesome and the wedges were awesome. With the right grind and right shaft and right weight location, i was hitting better, more consistent wedge shots than I have ever fit. Something about that weight location being changeable on the wedges is a real game changer. dlow206
Also, i forgot to mention, even though I got fit into one of the "lower grind" Edel wedges, that "lower grind" is still higher bounce that many other wedges out on the market, about 12 degrees. So its not like an ultra low bounce Vokey wedge or anything like that. sirchunksalot, PMookie, cksurfdude and 3 others 6 Quote Follow my golf journey to break into the 80s Tester for the Titleist TSi Driver Spring 2020 MGS Tester for the Fujikura Motore X Shaft Updated 07/15/2022 Driver: Rogue St Max LS - Autoflex Fairway Woods: Rogue Max St 3HL and 7 Wood Irons: JPX 921 Hot Metal 5 to AW - Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff parallel tip Wedges: Glide 4.0 54 and 58 Putter: PLD Custom Kushin

David Edel always points out that the stamped bounce on major OEM wedges is only for vanity, never the actual bounce, then add to that the “effective” bounce on any shot and the number varies depending on what type of shot is hit. dlow206, M. All from the driving range. Also, was hitting off of a mat, but the two fitters were watching how the wedge was interacting with the mat (if that makes sense). It would have been cool to hit from different lies, but hitting off the mat did provide a good apples to apples comparison between setups. PMookie, sirchunksalot and M. I know mats can be misleading, especially for those that hit the ground before the ball, but I've been tending to almost pick the ball. Its not a perfect fitting in the sense of being able to hit shots from different lies and bunkrs, etc. sirchunksalot 1 Quote Follow my golf journey to break into the 80s Tester for the Titleist TSi Driver Spring 2020 MGS Tester for the Fujikura Motore X Shaft Updated 07/15/2022 Driver: Rogue St Max LS - Autoflex Fairway Woods: Rogue Max St 3HL and 7 Wood Irons: JPX 921 Hot Metal 5 to AW - Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff parallel tip Wedges: Glide 4.0 54 and 58 Putter: PLD Custom Kushin

Bubbly Pop
Thanks for the info, it will help me self assess. I purchased several Edel SMS wedges recently (54 & 58 V-Grinds w/MODUS 105 shafts) and I've played them as they came (the heavier weight in the center) for five rounds. Have to tell you, I love how they feel/perform. Now I'm going to move the heavier weight to the toe and play five rounds with that configuration and compare the two results, and so on. I've always been a Cleveland wedge guy, although I tried Vokey's some years back (just didn't work for me), but I have to say I'm really impressed with these SMS wedges. The leading edge appears to sit more square/flush with the ground than the Cleveland's, and that's really appealing to my eye (who would have known?) Throwing darts from 60-90 yards makes them appealing, but my great discovery is my touch on delicate shots right around the green is much improved. Getting up and down more frequently than usual, such I remember I may have even wept a tear of joy after one particular short sided, severely down hill chip from deep rough, stopped 4 inches from the hole. If your current wedges are not your soul mate, and it's about time for new ones, I strongly suggest you consider Edel SMS wedges.
