Honestly I don't think you are giving up much. I was coming from a set of P790's into my ZX7's and the main reason was because I was launching them way to high and a breath of wind would stall the ball and it would come straight down. So I wanted forgiveness but I didn't want it in the form of a high launching and fast club. I was trying to flatten my ball flight severely and the ZX7's produced that flight in spades.

The ZX7's average ~1.5 deg more loft across the set than the P790's and my immediate thought would be that they would make your ball height worse.  Did you also change shafts?

My overall setup went from P790 with Zelos 7 Stiff to ZX7's with DG 120 S400. The reason for the Zelos 7's is that I was fortunate enough to test them in 2020 and they outperformed the Modus 120's that were previously in there (see the graph below with above the red line is Zelos 7 and below is Modus 120). I was enjoying the nice swing speed boost from the lighter shafts and also the dispersion between the two was much tighter with the Zelos 7. There are a couple other reasons I cover in my complete review of the shaft but long story short I liked it a lot but the flight on the course was way to high.

With the newest release of the Srixon iron line I figured I should post on this topic a bit. My ZX7's are still in the bag and I have no intention of changing them out. For anyone intrigued by the new line of ZX7's but looking to save some money I would recommend going with previous gen ZX7's. These irons are the perfect combination of forgiveness and workability.

I would also like to give credit to Club Champion for the fantastic fitting. Despite swing changes and speed gains since the fitting the iron and shaft combo has held up beautifully. I understand that they are expensive and I was hit with sticker shock myself at checkout however these irons don't have to have any worry about getting replaced for 2 more years. They may cost twice as much as a stock set of irons but if they stay in the bag twice as long I think its worth the consideration.

I also think the additional head weight from the ZX7's being a solid piece of metal helps me feel the club much better and deliver less dynamic loft which ultimately lowers my ball flight. I have hit plenty of the hollow body heads and I just don't feel like I can deloft the club as much which could be a feel thing or a mental thing but I don't seem to get along very will with the hollow bodied heads after these clubs.

UPDATE

ZX7's are still comfortably in the bag and I'm gonna game these irons till the grooves wear out. Lot of really great irons out on the market right now but I really don't see anything giving me much more in performance that what I am getting with these clubs. They are for sure safe for another season and I still have no complaints about them.

I have a combo of the zx5's in 4-6 and zx7's 7-PW and they have been incredible.

I almost went  ZX5 in the 4 and 5 irons but I'm really glad that I didn't. I tried them out in a 6i during the fit but my fitter and I agreed that we would still have plenty of height with the ZX7 and the ZX5's would be going too high for that end of the bag.

I wanted the additional height.  I hit a more penetrating ball flight and I am still getting the distance I wanted with the 5's.  I would have liked to have tried the 7's in the longer irons but they didn't have them at all in lefty so I stuck with the 5's just to be safe after seeing my numbers on the 6I.  I knew I wanted the rest in the 7's.

I'm looking forward to trying the new MKII's at our upcoming demo days.  My buddy Chris @Thin2winsays they're the best irons his ever played.  I'll take my ZX5 7i to serve as baseline and see what this hype is all about.

I didn't play the originals but the MKII's have been amazing.
