I can’t stand Sergio, but that’s just not right. Bad luck penalizing a good shot shouldn’t play such a significant role, but I readily admit I don’t know how appropriate rules/relief would look. Happens to pros much more than most of us because they’re so accurate.

I don’t want to see posts/tweets from a Pro about how long the rough is and how hard it will be to find a ball this week during the US Open…. There are volunteers and fans along every fairway helping show a player where there ball is, so don’t whine to me. We amateurs don’t have that luxury. We lose a stroke, they don’t. This is what drives me nuts when I play and hit one offline. I get a penalty when a Pro wouldn’t. Ugh. Drives me nuts.

Rant done……. I think.

At our course you have to be standing right over the rough to see the ball. Yeah for the Pros - no sympathy from me.

I'm indifferent re: Mickelson but it's hard to believe he's done so poorly on his "home course" with two weeks of focus/practice and after what he pulled off at the PGA. That was a very nice capper to his career IF that's his last major or other tournament regular tour win. He does have the second most second place finishes in majors (after Jack), presumably because of Tiger mostly.

Well, let's not forget his (6) close encounters at prior US Open's - a couple of which were his to lose and he did .  For whatever reason, he just seems snakebit at this event.  The odds are definitely not in his favor as the years roll along and I would put the recent major win in the beat all odds category.  But, he clearly can still hang with the field and, who knows, like Tom Watson at Turnberry in 2009, might find that magic again.

I've long been a Phil fan and would love to see him complete the grand slam.
