Shaft taper vs putter grip

Do some shafts taper more? I put a gravity grip on a friends Scotty and there is a noticeable gap at the bottom end of the grip between the shaft. I’ve put this grip on an odyssey and Taylormade with no issues.  Any ideas? I guess I could build up the bottom with tape?

You seem to have answered your own question.  Tape buildup is probably your best option

Is the putter shorter? I use a short putter and a long grip, so I always have a gap at the end. I have built it up with tape, with an increasing number of layers as you get to the bottom to account for the increasing taper, maxing at 4 layers.

Thanks all. The putter is 34” so not too short. I will try to build up with tape at the end.

I suspect the rubber ring at the bottom of the Gravity Grip is manufactured slightly larger than necessary to grip the reduced diameter of the shaft at that point. Shaft taper varies, but unless the bottom of the grip is actually moving around this is strictly an issue of appearance.

In my experience, all Scotty shafts are a bit undersized in the butt end and require some tape buildup for the first 2-3 inches.

Scotty Cameron uses a KBS shaft that is proprietary to Scotty putters. Not surprised if people find that normal process for gripping doesn’t match on a Scotty

He has always done this;  used to be a Scotty specific true temper shaft.
