Travelers Championship 2021

Recommended Posts

A little hard to follow on the heels of the U.S. Open (or any major event for that matter) but The Travelers, originally founded 69 years ago as the Insurance City Open, does a pretty solid job of keeping us fans energized. Travelers and the Greater Hartford Community Foundation have amassed a whopping $44M in donations over the years. I always find it fascinating to learn about the behind the scenes, positive impact the PGA events and their sponsors make across an array of special needs.  As a Travelers customer, this helps ease the sting of those insurance premiums... a wee bit 🙂.

A par 70 and a bit shorter than many stops, we can expect the winning score to be pushing the 20 under mark. Will DJ hold serve and defend last years victory? Will Bubba notch his 4th win here?  A few of the big names took the week off but still a solid field.  I'm a little surprised Speith is not attending given he won here in 2017.  Who's on your radar for the win?

I know that this Tournament is not that popular due to its place in the lineup but it’s one of my favorites.  We were lucky enough to Volunteer @ this Tournament every year.

Located 15 minutes from my former CT home and played the course often with friends who lived on the course.

That would be a great story.  It's hard to believe he has only 1 win (Puerto Rico Open, 2016) but the $23M in earnings is likely helping soften the disappointment 🙂

Do you ever miss being in CT?  One would think the folks of CT would/should get some great deals on insurance policies but I suspect that's not the case 🙂

Insurance breaks ummmmm no.

I do miss a lot about New England in general, great place to grow up in late 40’s thru 60’s.  It’s definitely not the same today.

Miss going to the Tournament and Whalers,  OOPS they gone…..

Yea, that is a common response from a good many folks about a good many places... age and point of reference has a way of influencing that.  I visited CT a couple of times on business (aerospace) and both times were in fall... amazing colors.

Yup, beautiful area!!  Great hunting, fishing and GOLF!

TPC Cromwell may not be a classic golf course I always loved playing there.

He is in the bomber's group:  Finau, DJ, and Koepka.  That group should be fun to watch.

Maybe Tony should try Armlock putting.  I heard somewhere that Xander thinks it's an advantage and should be banned... but he is giving it a try.

While I would love to pick Finau, I can't pick him for fear of my track record for jinxing players.

For some reason I have 3 players that I think might do well.

Paul Casey-  Played well at the US Open
Patrick Reed- Keeps hanging around and he's due for another win
Garrick Higgo- Longshot, I like this kid after watching him on the EU Tour.

Picks to win:

Favorite - Bryson. He played 63 holes like a champ at the US Open. Takes that momentum to this week.

Now that I picked Bryson, he’ll miss the cut, so my backup favorite will be Cantlay.

Mid tier - Doc Redman. Looked great at Palmetto

Longshot - Sebastian Munoz.

The last 4 holes are always exciting to watch with a driveable par 4, par 3 over water, unique hole layout on 17, and then finishing on 18.

I like a bunch of guys this week. Always seems like the big names spend such effort on the Majors the week after is sometimes a let down.

My DFS lineups are filled with Casey, Henley and Anser. I think Poulter, Fowler and English will have a good week too. Fingers crossed... 🤞

Well, Tony just hit out of a fairway bunker, bladed it across the fairway and into the water.  Hell, I can do that.

The Koepka, DJ, Finau group didn't do very well.  I congratulate Koepka for hanging tough.

There's been a Jason Day sighting.  Did he even miss a putt today, wow! Good to see him back in the fray.

I wonder if he is still living/traveling with his wife and kids in that sub-compact motorhome?  There were quite a few players who started traveling the tour in motorhomes but that may not be the case these days?

Agree.  That is a part of the linkage system that is especially bad to have as a pro golfer.  Now that I'm playing 10x more than I ever did, I'm feeling it here and there.  When you think about their practice and play schedule, and that most have been repeating it since a kid, that is a lot of wear n' tear.

Bubba looking good for tomorrow for 4th win.  Kinda hoping Jason can hang in there for the win.  He’s looking like he’s hurting.

I’m really happy with the Drone photo work all year.  I’m very familiar with TPC Cromwell/Connecticut but never saw it from a Drone view, love it.

Yes, that course looks nice.  I'm impressed with Day's ability to keep at it.  I would guess that were he 10 shots out he might WD?  He stated in Friday's post round interview that "it is nothing structural (back)" but I'd be concerned that when you are compensating for discomfort, there is risk of tweaking something.  Bottom-line is golf swing + back issues = no Bueno.

16 players within 3, 38 within 5 - should be a good day to watch. And a good mix of big names, mid names, and "who?"
