This could cost him the whole tournament…..and he has left 3 birdie putts right in the jaws

So trying to understand how he bogeyed. Was that his provisional ball? I don’t have sound on and struggled counting his strokes after he found one of his balls.

No, they found his original ball and he took an unplayable. Two club lengths and a drop. Then he thinned it through the fairway, came up short from there, hit a great pitch, and made the bogey.

-15 is crazy right now, so many names sitting in the Bronze slot right now.

Ok thanks for that. Sorry to derail. If I lose a ball and find it, I can claim unplayable and then use two club lengths and not lose a stroke ?

I got to see like 1 shot of Olympic Golf… congrats to the medalists.

Not my favorite event of the year, that is for certain.

I'd agree with you there. It doesn't have much appeal to me either. However I did watch the 72 hole and playoff which was entertaining enough. Just wish the format was different or something that wasn't just another 72 hole stroke play event. Have teams, matches, alt shot or something to keep it more entertaining then well as I just said another 72 hole stroke play event.

That being said congrats to the medalists on becoming Olympic champions and the forever memories that come along with it.

I haven’t watched much until tonight. Would love to see it truly be some sort of team event rather than stroke play. Would certainly help me get into more.

The Telecasts are mostly middle of the night or replays odd hours so haven’t seen much at all.

Not sure what you mean by not lose a stroke.  a ball isn't lost if you find it. If you find your original ball, you can no longer use a provisional ball.   You can declare any ball unplayable, take a 1 stroke penalty, and get relief.

It’s interesting to see so many people say that golf in the Olympics could use a change of format. I said this months ago, and the broadcasters for the Zurich even said it on 18 when two teams were battling. Not many agreed then, but I think many have changed their minds. I definitely think it would give the event more intrigue.

It's a one stroke penalty to take the unplayable. He hit 1 in the junk, pulled 2 out, thinned 3 through the fairway because the club got caught on limbs during the swing, hit 4 from the rough and came up short, pitched 5 on the green, and putted 6 in for the bogey.

I never figured him for a top 3 finish!  Yup, good for him.

MEH, never a big fan of his and you’ll never convince me he didn’t change his citizenship just to be in the Olympics even though he said that’s not why he did it.

hard to argue with a 10 under 61 in the final round though

Nothing wrong with applying for Slovakian citizenship when your wife is Slovakian.  Happens all the time here.

Good move on his part.  He wasn't getting in for South Africa.

I can see how @TBTfeel about some of the players choosing "home turf" as a matter of convenience.  I'm not sure if rules have changed but I think an athlete can play for any nation that will have them so long as they meet "national" status... which, by most accounts, is not that difficult.

I have to agree with you. Felt the same when seeing table tennis female doubles team USA were represented by 2 Chinese women. Same with badminton: Canada, Ireland and USA with Chinese players.

I guess you do what you gotta do to get in, as they probably wouldn't stand a chance in their home countries.

It's a well known fact now that many Chinese families immigrate with their kids to other countries so they can be top there for olympic sports esp. table tennis and badminton. Like you might be ranked 50th in China but you'll be #1 in Zimbabwe. Plus the countries are all for it so they can send more olympians to the games lol.

Yeah no, I'm aware of that. It just looks... weird. If you've been living there for a while or have a strong connection to the country you are representing, then by all means. But I've read about athletes who can't even speak the language, know nothing about the country and were just paid $500K to switch nationalities. But hey, people do whatever it takes.

I guess I would be having the same discussion with my daughter, as to which country to represent, if someday she manages to play in the Olympics 😄
