Whenever I try posting a pic taken in portrait mode with my phone they'll post sideways  I've tried edit mode on my phone along with edit feature in Windows. Neither approach works.  Is there an easy workaround?

Can you post an example? I haven't come across those issues. I will admit I normally use my chromebook and not mobile for posting. Although I did just try and it came out normal. Able to provide any screenshots?

I am posting from my desktop using latest version of Windows and Chrome. The pic below was taken in portrait on my iphone 6 (yes I know it's old and outdated). I usually remember to take pics I want to post on the Forum in landscape mode - but forgot this last time. As mentioned I did try rotating in both iphone edit feature and windows.

Interesting... I wonder if it does have to do with it being on IOS 12. May have to see if I can find my older Iphone and power it up to see if I have the same thing happen. Again I did just try with my android and all was okay, my ipad is at work so I can't try it on that till tomorrow. Either way I'll see what I can find, but I would guess it has something to do with IOS12 version of Portrait Mode.

Based on some reading it looks like this is the result of the way iPhones (at least the older ones) handle photo orientation information. From: https://ruk.ca/content/fixing-problem-sideways-iphone-photos-uploaded-drupal

Quote

What’s happening is that when an iPhone takes a photo, the only time the orientation of the pixels of the photo are “correct” is when the camera is situated such that the home button is on the right and the orientation is landscape. In all other situations–like a portrait photo, for example–the pixels don’t get moved, but the orientation gets burned into the EXIF data of the resulting image.

I'm guessing neither Windows nor the forum software know how to interpret the orientation EXIF data and discard it/don't respect it. I downloaded the image you uploaded but don't see any information in the EXIF (should be Exif.Photo.Orientation according to stuff I'm reading) related to orientation:

image.png.ed6a8a34ebb5f35f66320fb6ec1f0bf2.png

I seem to recall having this issue a long time ago when I had an iPhone 4, but am not 100 percent sure...

@tony@CIC - What happens if you move the photo to Windows, remove the EXIF data (steps courtesy Norton here), rotate the photo correctly, resave and then upload? Obviously not what you want to do all of the time, but it would confirm what is happening.

Tried that - rotating it in windows and then reimporting into the forum - didn't work. As to removing the EXIF data - that's beyond my pay grade 😉
