Recommendations for the best coaches in Houston, TX

Recommended Posts

Hi Spies,

Any have any recommendations for coaches in Houston, TX? I have tried everything and feel like I need a proper coaching session or two to fix some of the issues I have with my game.

Please suggest good coaches that y'all might have had experiences with.

I look forward to your replies.

Thank you!

Axis Golf Academy has some very talented instructors. They are currently working out of Blackhorse. They seem to focus on junior golfers though, and I don’t know if they still teach adults too.

Brian Smith at Cypress Lakes is really good too. He worked under Butch Harmon when he was learning and was a player too. He Monday qualified for the Houston Open in 2003 and 2004.

Kevin Kirk at the Woodlands CC has coached multiple PGA Tour players. Though, I have no clue how easy/difficult it is to get some lessons from him.

I have gone to  Tony Allen, PGA 'Class A' Assistant Golf Professional with 20 years teaching experience. He is good about not trying to tear you down and start all over. Several of the members at Willow Fork CC which is my club have got lessons from Tony. I got my lessons from Tony at Meadow Brook Farms and he has a website.

Thank you so much!

I'll look into all of them.

Have either of y'all hear of Derek Hooper? I read up on him and saw that he was listed amongst the best in Texas.

Yeah, that's the list I was going off of and where I got Derek's name from. I used to play out at Sugar Creek but never got the chance to go to Jim Murphy, but from what I read and stuff, he seems very old school

  • 2 years later...

If you want rapid results from a quality teaching professional who is not a clock watcher and teaches in sessions, not minutes.
Check out Steve Garcia, a Master teaching professional ( 7133014480)
Over 40 years of success in the Houston and surrounding areas.
He only gives 1 session a day and you have to book in advance ( usually 1 week) but it will be well worth the effort.
He has taught all levels with great success.
