I agree and walking around the green doesn't always work for me.  I simply navigate the pin collect screens and return to the distance screen or leave it on pin collect and just keep going.

Thanks but I have the Arccos free trail from my Ping clubs, was deciding whether to stay and pay the sub or move across to ShotScope as I got the V3 or if I should return that now I got the new Apple Watch that can handle Arccos (as don't like to play with phone in pocket) but only watch would only just about make 9holes with Arccos battery drain. Can  probably do 54 with this new watch before it would give out.

I was a tester for the V3 last year and still use it.  Can't speak for the Arccos system but the subscription model is a no go for me, though I know that's not an issue for you.

I've used the watch on a full charge on a Friday, left it on all weekend and played another round on Sunday afternoon. The watch was at 2% charge when I finished.

Like others, I like the stats and the customer service is top notch.  I do have occasions where the watch struggles to connect or find the course I'm playing, but nothing that would make me change my mind.

All that being said, if you have already used Arccos a bit and are happy with it, I would probably return the V3 if I were you.

Another reason why I love SS customer service and hate ARRCOS. Last year (September 2021), it took several calls to cancel my wife's ARRCOS subscription at renewal time. They begrudgingly credited my CC account even though it was cancelled well in advance of the new subscription year.  Well guess what... I just got a text notification from my CC company that they put through a charge of $155. today for next years subscription. WTH . Now I'll probably have to spend an hour on the phone Monday to straighten this out. 

I was going to tell them to get their act together but then decided otherwise since the more they F$%# up like this the more popular SS will become.

I have had my V3 since July and this past Sunday I experienced a problem I did not cause.  Just the week before I played and used my V3 successfully.  When I started the V3 and tried start a game, I received a message indicating no courses were found within 1KM.  I tried all the usual things; power cycling the V3, logging out of the app on my iphone, restarting it and attaching to the V3 for any update, and using bad language; nothing worked.  Yesterday evening I emailed customer support and explained the situation.  Today I received the following:

'I have now re-mapped the course for you, could you please manually log out the app and back in (closing the app doesn't log you out), there should then be a course update available for download. Press the sync button and this will start the download. If there is no update showing please unsubscribe to that course and re-subscribe to see the update.'

This seems to have worked, but I have to admit I was more than a little annoyed this happened.  As far as I know nothing had changed since the previous week when I used it successfully, and yesterday when I could not make it work.  I mean, how will I know from day to day whether or not this might happen again when I want to start a round?  Geeeeesh

I am assuming it was a new course that you had never played.   HAppened to me several times during my review of the H4.   Probably the biggest negative for the Shotscope devices.  Was explained by customer support that the course really isn't on the device even though it says it is.  Since you can't manually sync a course CS has to update the course so it indicates a change was made.   There is no way to know that it will happen until you try and load the course.

Fwiw whenever I'm going to play a new course, I check (in the app with device connected) for any updates to sync to the watch.

Well, with my V2 having gotten soaked in an unexpected downpour last week, and now showing moisture inside and acting a bit squirrely when plugged in, I'm looking at either the V3 or G3. 

I came to this thread for some thoughts on which one to get and see @Paul Hedrick's post and wonder whether Garmin (other mfg.) is the better route? 

The V2 has performed really well.  I stopped using the RFID tags soon after acquiring it and have no need for them moving forward.  I've used it in the "GPS Only" mode since and it seems to always be very close to what most other players scopes read for yardage. I simply want an accurate, reliable, watch style distance device that includes hazards.  

From what I've read on the SS website, the G3 looks like it provides everything but RFID and shot analytics.  I can get one for $119 from several sources.  If I'm missing something here and should really consider the V3 (or another make/model), please lay some knowledge on me . Thanks

Get the V3. I upgraded from Arccos to SS V2 to SS V3. I love my V3. Rec3ntly got a new ban$ and suddenly all my probs with club communication disappeared. As for Arccos, I bought a new Apple Watch (Series 3) to handle Arccos. However it kept locking up on me and multiple emails to Arccos failed to provide help.

Saw the G3 on sale recently for $99 so if you go that route shop around.

IMHO *if* I did not want shot tracking and only GPS I'd consider looking at watches that have a color display with a hole layout overview and touch screen. Not sure about the G3 but one important thing that seems to be missing on a lot of courses in my V3 is the distance into a dogleg...

I agree with Matt, if all you're using it for is FMB distance you don't need to spend the extra $100 for the V3. Now having said that most of us on this forum are regularly upgrading equipment some of which has adjustable settings. Having a V3 you could see the performance distance with the new equipment.  I have a new driver this year along with a new 3 wood and wedge. Intuitively, I knew I was getting better distance with those clubs. The V3 gave me enough data that confirmed it AND I could show my wife what a good decision it was

Add me as another agreement.   If you don’t want shot tracking go with a dedicated GPS device; you should be able to get it cheaper or with more functionality.

I'm guessing that the folks at SS don't view distance into dogleg as a hazard .  After posting, I looked up what our MGS staff has reviewed and Garmin Approach gets the nod. It definitely has some cool features the G3 does not, but its more than I want to spend for a yardage watch.

Anyone else experienced moisture getting inside the casing on V2, V3, G3 watches?  In the rain last week, I really didn't think about my V2 getting wet. Hell, being in AZ, I didn't think about any water falling from the sky... but it has 5x since we arrived .  In fact, our men's league play yesterday was rained out.

I haven't found any information from SS about water resistance, but now know that wearing one in damp conditions could be problematic.

Try SS support - they may have a 'fix' or offer you a deal. According to their support website, they claim their products are waterproof  - wearing in the rain is supposedly ok but not swimming, etc.

Hard to do distance into a dogleg since it could be a very wide area depending on hole shape and tree arrangement.  There is a hole one of the courses I play that probably has 100 yards between the far right if the fairway and the far left.   Need a rangefinder or a watch with the hole layout that has touchscreen and the ability to mark a spot.   This is why I said if you don’t want shottracking I’d go with a higher end GPS watch with more features.

Great idea Tony.  I just submitted a comment in their FAQ site. I've received email offers from SS a couple of times since getting/registering the V2 for discounts on upgrades to the V3... but had no compelling reason to spend the money.  In fact, I just recently dumped the latest email from them.

I would send SS support an email with the specifics. I don't know how often they check comments on the support site but I'll bet you get a response to your email within 24-48 hrs.

Sounds like the database on your V3 got corrupt.   While it is annoying and frustrating at least they have good customer service and stand behind their product

Paul, I assume you've probably done thiis...but just in case: When you get your new watch go into courses and either subscribe or delete the courses on the V3. I check the courses on a regular basis to make sure I've got the latest updates.

I bought a Shotscope V3 and would never buy anything from them again.  The batteries do not last.  For the first V3 I had, the battery lasted less than a year.  Shotscope replaced it and with the new one it lasted about 2 months.  Piece of junk IMHO.

Strange. I've had my V3 since the release date and the battery is fine. Unfortunately that sort of thing happens with every product.

As a Shot Scope user and having been lucky enough to be chosen as a tester for Shot Scope here at MGS. I can say with certainty, I love it.

The interface is really nicely setup for either use on a computer or your phone.

The ability to use the watch without any thought of what's ahead (water, bunker, etc.) is really settling. Golf is hard enough sometimes.

The GPS is really very good for shot dispersion and shot location.

 

I've seen the ARCCOS stuff and yes the analytics are a little better but for the initial cost of a watch or new rangefinder that tracks your golf, it just seems so much better. And no monthly or yearly fees to use Shot Scope.
