TESTERS WANTED! ×

This looks extremely interesting and could possibly be the bridge between a PLM and a low end simulator....

image.png.041c9424b58f5b5731ec665ab2e2a154.png

Is designed to work with E6 connect along with providing the basic data most golfers would expect want...

If it can do all of this in a reasonably accurate package, that would be excellent. Definitely would like to see MGS compare this to Mevo+ or Skytrak.

looks like a good product, I've always liked Garmin for GPS and stuff, don't see why this shouldn't be a quality offering too.

This is my nightmare, I just bought a Mevo+ and this comes out at a cheaper price point with potentialy more metrics.  Will be interested to see what is calculated vs measured and how it compares accuracy wise.  I've seen some posts suggesting the Mevo+ also measures club path and face angle since they measure spin loft, but they don't want it to be a substitute for their more expensive launch monitors, so they bury it deep in the code/software.  I wonder if something like thise would prompt Flightscope to unlock some additional metrics if Mevo+ does actually measure them.

Absolutely need to see some in depth testing and comparisons to Skytrak and Mevo+.  Moving into the new house in 3 days, and the wife has promised me space for a golf simulator/studio in the sunroom (blinds darken it pretty well and it has sloping 12 to 16 foot ceiling).  Was about to order Skytrak......I wonder if I should wait.

Spin & Face angle are calculated but for the money, it'll be the only device measuring both ball & club laterally which is very exciting if it's accurate.
I'm getting one anyway but fascinated to see someone put it up against a Trackman or Quad to compare accuracy.

Did you preorder from playbetter.com? Now they are saying orders will ship in September. I found it on amazon for preorder through a local vendor here in SoCal but they had to cancel because of the long ship date. They did offer me a 10% discount for my troubles though so worth the wait for me! I already sold my Mevo to make room!

Yep, through them.  I got an email today that said a small shipment will be in the next few days that the very first orders will be filled out of, then another one in a few weeks, which I took to mean late August could be September.   I ordered the first day they had them available, so I'm hoping there's a chance I'm in the first group.   But either way, looking forward to it.

If it can do all of this in a reasonably accurate package, that would be excellent. Definitely would like to see MGS compare this to Mevo+ or Skytrak.

See, I’m the opposite. I don’t care if it’s more accurate to already inaccurate monitors, I want it compared to GC Quad and TrackMan. For the life of me I cannot understand why anyone wants a LM that is “close” to their swing numbers and distances. When they go to the course, what good did it do???

Yes, MGS test it, but against TM and GC Quad.

I think for the intended audience (like me and a lot of us on this forum) it is about getting to own something that gives you numbers that you can use to trend your performance and track improvements. I will probably never own a GC quad or a Trackman but I can deal with +/- 5% with a device that is a fraction of the price. I know I don't speak for everyone here but my game is not consistent enough that I always hit my clubs within that margin of error. I hit 220 yard drives and then I hit 300 yard drives in the right conditions. If the LM tells me that I am averaging 240 carry off the tee like my Mevo did then I know I am in the right range. My Mevo gave me pretty close numbers to my carry distances for my irons as well. The CHS for an 8I was compared to a Trackman and it was within an acceptable range (HS player on the range had one and I had her hit her 8I on my Mevo and asked if the numbers she was getting on her Trackman were similar to the Mevo and she said they were). Now with the Bushnell Launch Pro coming to market in the Fall, it would be interesting to see what their price point is and what market they are trying to appeal to.

2, 3 or even 4 sides to this coin. If it is within a couple of yards it wouldn't affect anything on the course in the long run. However if it is showing that I am in to out 4* and its really 6* that would pose a problem. Really it is about the consistency of the data and calculations. All that said the way my mind works the only time I can ever have faith in something is if it is 100% correct. I have a skytrack and it helps but I don't put a lot of stock into the numbers it puts out at times.

Interesting that this one is going to be "powered by Foresight" wonder if this means they are entering the PLM market or just lending their name.

Damn!  I had not heard about this.  We have a Bushnell account too at the course.

I have a sorry feeling this is going to be the scene in my office when more info on it is available.

For the life of me I cannot understand why anyone wants a LM that is “close” to their swing numbers and distances. When they go to the course, what good did it do???

It would be fun to play simulated courses (obviously this is not golf but not a video game either, somewhere in the middle) and might get me swinging a club a bit more often. To me it is much more fun than just hitting into a net but obviously not as helpful as hitting out onto a range with a Trackman. However, it seems like, anecdotally, the few people I know that have LMs don't really find themselves dramatically improving. There is just something to playing golf which makes you better in a way that playing golf swing doesn't. Especially if you are trying to move from like a 3HDCP to a scratch.

If you know that the launch monitor is about 3% off (I have no idea if that is the variance, just for sake of argument) that's like 5 yards on a 7 iron carry and 6.5 yards on a hybrid. Now, for precise gapping that isn't perfect but if the LM is accurate at ball flight and start line, that is useful. So if a flushed 7 iron could go say 160 or 170 (5 yards either way) that's okay as long as I can trust that a hooked shot on the monitor is actually a hooked shot in reality and that it can pick up a block, etc. I can feel when I hit it out on the toe or heel (or could use footspray) but I can't always feel when I blocked or pulled it. Or if my path is getting too much one way or the other.

For gapping, I think the ideal thing is to be able to get on a Trackman or GCQuad every few months and maybe bring your LM along to see the differences. You'll have accurate data from the Trackman that you can base averages off of and also track your variance level with your less accurate LM. I'm still not sold on getting one but if it can tell me where I am hitting the ball and the flight path, that's quite useful to me...especially in the winter or if I am working on something with my coach (I'm always working on something). As someone who actually likes to practice BUT has 2 kids under 3, my wife is not letting me go to the range twice a week. If I had something decent in the garage that I could use after my nightly chores, that is compelling.

I have a skytrack and it helps but I don't put a lot of stock into the numbers it puts out at times.

Maybe you have discussed this elsewhere but how often do you actually use your SkyTrack? The people I know that have them (literally two) used them a bunch the first few months and then gradually stopped using them, almost altogether. One guy claimed he got worse because of indoor swing syndrome (I am a little dubious because his ceiling is like 14 feet so it's not like he was worried about hitting the ceiling). The other guy said the novelty wore off and he started to see the SkyTrack like a game rather than anything resembling golf. Also, one of the Chasing Scratch guys got one and he doesn't seem like he thinks it is helping, hahaha.

I am optimistic I would continue to use it. I like to practice more than both my friends and when I have time (a few times a week) I will hit birdie balls or shag balls on the way to or from work....literally anywhere I can (school field, empty lot, etc). I have a young family as I mentioned so time is at a premium.

I would have them provide handicap numbers before and after using the unit, or strokes gained numbers if they keep detailed stats. It doesn't mean much if they can't provide any numbers and only "feel" like they got worse or it didn't help. Especially if they just stopped using the device. Even if their numbers did get worse, you need to consider how they are practicing. If they used to practice more outdoors and used Skytrak as a replacement, then I could see that impacting your play on a course.

The primary benefits are to understand and map your carry distances (gap testing) and your dispersion patterns with each club. Skytrak will be of limited benefit if you know all of your carry distances on full and partial shots, don't want to track ball speed, and have some good ideas on dispersion. If you don't want the ability to hit full swings indoors with feedback or have a cheap simulator, it probably isn't a good purchase. If you do hit shots indoors, I don't see why you would do it with no feedback and there's strong consensus that camera based systems are better than radar at each price point for indoor usage. In areas where you can't play outside in the winter, they are significantly more valuable.

As an anecdote, Scott Fawcett seemed to like his ST prior to upgrading to a GC Quad and his handicap is 5-8 shots better than the Chasing Scratch guys.

Spin & Face angle are calculated but for the money, it'll be the only device measuring both ball & club laterally which is very exciting if it's accurate.
I'm getting one anyway but fascinated to see someone put it up against a Trackman or Quad to compare accuracy.

This is the big thing for me.  +/- 5yds on carry distance with driver, ok.  Whatever.  But +/- 5yds with wedges is a different animal altogether (IMO).  I don't know of too many who look at total distance with launch monitors (too many conditional variables like fairway firmness, length of grass, etc.).   Another thing that is very important for accuracy is club face angle (+/- 2 degrees).  It would seem like 2 degrees at driver speed is a big deal.  Could change the ball's start line, amount of curvature, etc. If that is being simulated, might cause you to constantly change your swing.  Perhaps it would best be used on the course to get numbers (range balls would also affect distance accuracy).  IDK.

Since you try to find time to hit balls whenever you can I would guess you would also use the skytrak.   I use my ExPutt, roll balls down a ruler, hit chips,  and do most wanted testing as frequently as they will let me.  If I could save time driving to a range and could walk out into a garage I would have one setup now.   I love practicing and playing golf and the desire really hasn’t slowed down for years.  Based on that I am sure it would work for me.  For you, that is ultimately your call.

I use it a couple of times a week. Not usually more than 30-60 minutes each time but it is super nice to just be hanging around the house and decide I want to hit some balls. Yesterday I played a course that is 5 mins from my house, rather than pay for range balls I just warmed up at home and went straight to the first tee. It is a nice luxury to have.

I own a Mevo+ & practice on a TM... I will be buying a Garmin, this winter.

— There is one other major feature here not yet mentioned that — GC Quad or Trackman does NOT have.

That is simulation of your home course or other local courses you actually play...

“42,000+ VIRTUAL COURSES”

“You and up to three other golfers can likely play your own home course or even a course you’re going to play on your next trip with virtual rounds2 for more than 42,000 worldwide courses.“

I play some courses up to around 150 miles from home. I’ve had a Garmin Watch since version 1. They say “likely your home course” .

But I’ve never played a course in or out of State that the Garmin Watch didn’t provide yardages... This LM must interface with that golf course database...

This means I can do practice rounds in my backyard on courses I routinely play with the tees & yardages available on demand. I’m sure the graphics aren’t simulator quality but that still would work great for practice rounds, I hit into a net anyway.

That's huge.  I have ready access to a TrackMan (actually three TrackMen) no more than 30 minutes from my house, and I use them maybe once a week through the winter.  Having something in the house would be nice.  And since the only room in my house with high ceilings is the garage, I need something I can set up and tear down quickly.
