I really want one of these PLM…but which one to get? Mevo, Mevo+, Rapisdo, Garmin, or wait to see what the Bushnell unit looks like and sells for??

Im so confused!

After reading about this Garmin one… I am super interested in it specifically.  The bushnell has the potential to be way out of my golf budget.

I look at it as like buying a membership, eventually, when I find the right place I will join a club.  A PLM Will be my “club” til then.  So it has to have the ability to play “a course”.

We have a sky track at work that is just sitting.  Waiting on the internet extension to my shop.

Yeah, the Garmin definitely has my attention too….but Foresight’s involvement in the Bushnell makes it intriguing for sure. If I could get the Garmin right now I would probably already have it in the garage 😎

Fortunately I don't have a place to put one so I am not pressured to buy one.   Searching for a house and having an appropriate space is part of the requirements.   My short list right now is probably Skytrak, Mevo+, Garmin, and Busnell

Sad that you have a Skytrak just sitting unused and neglected 😞   What does play a course mean?  Do you want it to be simulator like with visuals that look like a course?   Or what I believe the garmin will offer which is an overhead view of the course that you can hit simulated shots?

Yeah.  Simulator.  Planning to have an indoor gold league.  We have about 8 people that “play” golf.  Have the whole set up.  Just no juice for the internet…

This in the hands of anyone yet?

I don't think this has shipped yet. I just pre-ordered mine from a shop in WA and website says shipping on 8/20.

The Bushnell is most likely going to be in the same class as a Mevo+/Skytrak so definitely out of budget for me as well. In terms of the accuracy though it will be interesting to test out the Garmin against a higher end LM. Once mine arrives I will try and find a place that has a GC Quad or a Trackman and see if they will let me compare numbers. Where do you work that you have a Skytrak just sitting??? Are you hiring??? I have mobile hotspot on my phone...xPPP

I’m in the same boat just when I settle on one to save for another one comes out or is teased! I have access to a 2500 sq ft indoor baseball facility on a daily basis, I could work on so much! I just can’t decide what to get lol 😆

Cool. Will let you know if I get anymore updates from my seller. Could be nobody really ordered from them because nobody would expect a bike shop to sell golf gear but looks like they are legit as they also deal with other Garmin gear.

Just got mine in. I've had one longer range session and one short one and about 5 shots with driver into my net. So far, it seems pretty decent for carry distance, so so for total distance and some of the other stats are still a little TBD. I thought it did a good job at picking up ball direction.

The spin numbers seemed a little lower with irons/wedges - granted, I was just using range balls. Had SW spinning around 8k which is a little on the low side for me. Some of the lower irons (8 for example) definitely weren't reading spin correctly because there were a number of shots that were in the 2k-4k spin range resulting in some 185yrd carry and 200yrd total distance - which for me is normally around 170-175.

The driver seemed like the most accurate (other than some of the rollout numbers). Ball speeds were seemingly right on and spin right in that 2k-2.5k mark. It would occasionally not pick up the club speed properly (would be 40mph off) but rest of the stats still read fine. I would say that it didn't register the side spin perfectly because I hit a couple of those dirty hooker shots and it didn't seems as dramatic based on what it registered.

I got logged in for about 20 shots on the E6 range and feel that was better to see the stats as you were going and the graphics are much better, but seemed to register shots about the same.

I also have a Rapsodo and would say that the Garmin seems to add a little distance vs the Rapsodo - probable based on the lower calculated spin. I also feel like the user interface on the app is a little better with the Rapsodo; the Garmin needs to make it a little easier to go between shots and the auto detect of the shot video didn't work with the Garmin where as I've never had an issue with the Rapsodo. I also had a bit of trouble at first while trying to have the device connect to the app when using the E6 app.

Overall, I think it's been good. I'm excited to keep using based on the club data - I'll need to spend a little more time on that to see how accurate that really is, but seems to be at least in the ballpark. I think the Rapsodo might be a little better for on course stuff because it's easier to use, connect and have it capture video, but in terms of the total info provided for getting better, I'm optimistic about the Garmin. More testing to come

Interesting results in this test comparing the R10 to the GC2+HMT. fairly consistent bias with swing path to the left and excessive negative angle of attack.

Ball speed and carry looked great. But the face/path data causes some weird side spin calculations. Will be interesting to follow as more reviews come out.

Well, that may make it easier to decide now between this and the other options at this price point. I want to wait until the Bushnell+Foresight unit has some details but I am afraid that will be around the Mevo+ price range at least if it truly has 3 cameras.

The PLM space is definitely interesting as there are lots of factors that need to be considered.  I think there will be more coming out in the near term to evaluate.  My concern with the bushnell will be the subscription costs.  Mevo+ Is what is near the top of my list.

The PLM space is definitely interesting as there are lots of factors that need to be considered.  I think there will be more coming out in the near term to evaluate.  My concern with the bushnell will be the subscription costs.  Mevo+ Is what is near the top of my list.

I was hoping the R10 would be good, the Mevo+ seems like the option right now but also want to wait for the bushnell costs and review too.

Man, yes. It’s number 1 on my list but my budget is nowhere close to $2k. The plan atm is to purchase a Rapsodo and then begin saving for a higher range LM. Was really just needing some feedback on the R10 to know if I needed to look into it. I’ll be interested to see what the MGS crew say.

Unfortunately not hearing good reviews on this unit.

could be software issues. One reviewer on youtube mentioned that the Mevo+ had some software updates that made it a lot better over time. Looks like my unit is arriving in a week so hoping this is the case

Check out this outdoor comparison vs Trackman4 (link at bottom)

Ball speed and clubhead speed look pretty accurate. Carry distance looks accurate for irons. Launch angle +\- 3 deg.  The rest of the data (probably because it’s calculated) leaves something to be desired.

For me, I will be using on outdoor ranges year round and am very tempted to pick up for $600 to at least get decent ball/club speed and iron carry numbers.

Cheap radars like the SC 200+ can do ball speed and carry distance well for half the cost of the R10. The hope for many was that a unit in this cost range would do a good job capturing horizontal launch angle and dispersion as well as the club data that was promoted.

Exactly.  You can get affordable launch monitors like the mevo used and it'll give you those numbers.  I sold mine and ordered this with the premise that it could be a full sim for an affordable price point.

Had a chance to get out on the range yesterday and play with the R10. Set up is easy and it synced to my phone quickly as I had downloaded the app beforehand and set up my account. There was a quick software update and we were ready to go. Hitting on the driving range mode for the most part speeds seemed accurate as I know my typical speeds from using radar based launch monitors for the past few years. Distances seemed very off at first as the R10 was reporting carry distances much shorter than the markers on the range. I measured the distance markers on the range with a range finder then realized the markers were much closer than the numbers they reflected! The 200 yard marker was more like 165 yards from my position on the mat! Maybe this is why this range is always packed. Makes everyone feel like they are hitting longer than they actually are! The back of the range has a marker that says 258 but is actually 230 and I can hit that no problem lol. Then again I was on the far left side of the range and it curves so that could explain the distance differentials. Once I measured the actual distances then the R10 seemed to be reporting pretty close to the actual carry distances. Interesting to see the metrics of things like path and face although I know they are not measured and calculated based on ball flight etc but it seems to make sense for the most part. My normal ball flight is a pull draw and the R10 showed a face that is closed left with a path to the right so that would promote a draw. Interestingly it kept telling me my driver angle of attack was averaging around -4 degrees. Launch angles and spin numbers were fine around 13 degrees and 2700 RPM even with the negative angle of attack so not sure if that was jus a calculation error my actual angle of attack. Tried teeing it up really high and was getting ridiculous launch angles in the 20s with backspin numbers of 4500 RPM but still showing anything from 0 to still slightly negative angle of attack.

After playing around with the driving range I activated my one month free trial of Garmin connect so that I could play hometown hero. At 100 a year it is worth it if I can play rounds on the range rather than just bash balls. Better practice. I chose a course I play often so I could compare the virtual vs real. You download the course you want to play and it can look for courses near you but you can also search for the course you want to play. You choose the wind conditions and can even add other players up to four total players. For the most part the virtual course represents the actual course pretty good. Interestingly they must have gone off of old course maps because there were creeks and ponds that have long since dried up! Direction was very accurate but I found that distances were badly off. It could be the range balls I was hitting not efficiently transferring energy from club to ball and thus the shorter distances but I was at least 1 sometimes 2 clubs shorter than usual. I had actually played 18 holes in real life before going to the range and was averaging 250 yard drives some even going 270 but on the R10 golf game I was averaging 220 yards and only hit one to 250 and that was because it was downhill. Hopefully there is a software update to fix this as it was frustrating not being able to play the course like I would in real life. Another issue I found is that sometimes the R10 would register what I can only call ghost shots. It would register a 10 yard shot when I had not even swung the club. Not sure if it was reading a shot from the stall next to me thought I find that hard to believe since the range I went to has stalls separated with low dividers. I had the R10 in line with my tee on the mat and 90 inches behind it. They need to add a mulligan/redo shot function in case this happens or whatever for fun right? Seems like some G80 users are reporting the same issue such as addressing the ball registering as an 11 yard shot. Hopefully they come out with some updates to this soon. Not a deal breaker for me as its just for fun. You can edit your bag in the app so you can use different clubs of the same type I guess? Would be nice if you could make these edits online rather than the app but again not a deal breaker. Overall enjoying the product and having fun with it.

I have tested this unit at the range, in my indoor garage set up. Additionally, I have collected data against a GC Hawk indoors and FlightScope Range unit at a driving range. All my testing has been done with the latest firmware available to me (v3.30). Here's my review:

  • Bottom-line is if you want a launch monitor under $1000 then get this. If you have Mevo+ or Skytrak money and need better numbers those are better units. This is great for casual golfers that want engaging ways to practice away from the course. If you have the budget, the only reason you might go for the R10 is its portability and ease of use or if you really want to play local courses in Home Tee Hero.
  • Outdoors at the range this unit is a beast for the price. It went toe to toe with the FlightScope very well in my test.
  • Into a net is more problematic. My setup works well but others have had issues. It's absolutely key to have the unit level and the manual says 8 feet to the net but I think more like 10 helps.

GC Hawk Test Indoors (6 feet unit to ball and 11-12 feet ball to screen):

  • Launch direction, angle, ball speed were all pretty much within the promised specifications. Slightly higher launch angle with the R10 but the unit was a little below the mat.
  • 7 iron carry distance was within 3-4 yards every shot. Spin was pretty variable but generally the R10 was slightly overestimating spin. It actually picked up the correct side spin for every shot as well.
  • Driver was a bit more off (about 10 yards short on carry). I did have the incorrect side spin a few times (usually baby fades to draws or vice versa).

FlightScope Range test outdoors at the range (6 feet unit to ball, range balls, limited wind):

  • Ball speed was almost an exact match
  • Launch angle was about 1 degree high pretty consistently with the R10. Could be the unit was again below the mat.
  • Distances were generally good. The R10 was actually estimating slightly more than the FlightScope a lot of cases. Everything from wedges to driver was pretty good.
  • Spin was generally okay but definitely more all over the map. The R10 did not pick up higher spin very well. Sidespin also varied a decent amount with a few shots having the wrong sidespin.
  • Club speed is bad which is a little disappointing given the G80 was very good with club speed. I look at ball speed now instead.
  • The graph below is my data from the FlightScope Range test. The R10 is on the y axis and FlightScope on the x. The line is y = x so basically the closer the dot is to the line the more the units agree.

395D590F70FB4D4DB585ABFF9E7DCA2E.png.b28928bbdfa1949aa27a65dad4d4c8b1.png

Garage Sim Experience:

  • I get pretty good results but I don't have anything else to compare it to other than my own experience and expectations. I have 6 feet unit to ball and 10-11 feet ball to the net.
  • Irons seem to be pretty good and within my expected distances. Shape seems reasonable for the type of shot I'd be expecting with the strike and feel. Spin is decent as well but I have nothing to compare to and I don't know how my mat behaves but I get about 6000 on a 7 iron and the wedges do push closer to 8000+.
  • Driver is maybe 15 yards short. My better drives inside carry 250 and I do think those carry more like 265. Spin inside with driver is higher than I would expect (most are above 3000 rpm).
  • Home Tee Hero is fun and a good casual sim experience. Always cool to play courses you know and it plays pretty close to how you'd play it in real life.

What a great analysis with data and everything! I think we are all in agreement that the spin numbers in general are hard to capture with a unit this size and in this price range. Side spin deviation seems to be also on par with everyone else as we all got some shots that were different in actual flight vs simulated. Agree that the Hometown Hero sim is a blast and definitely plays how the course plays in real life pretty close. Just fun to have a portable sim for the range rather than just blasting balls in any direction with no consequences. If anything it trains you to maintain that same pressure at the range as the course. Most difficult thing I found is the short chips and pitches near the green. Hard to estimate for anything under 50 yards as the same distances on the range in actual ball flight resulted in wildly different distances on the sim. Overall a great option for those with a budget under $1000 just for the fun factor alone.

BTW just an update for those still waiting on orders. I cancelled my order from Ascent Cycles as the ship date kept getting delayed and I received a unit from a different vendor already. Yep placed 2 orders in case one didn't come through. Good luck to those still waiting!
