Q:  Is the Link or Link 2 perform better than Apple watch smart caddy app?

I figured out how to use my Apple watch for shot detection after 10 rounds played.  My watch needs to be within an inch from the iPhone (weird) at start round.  The watch worked well, but the battery died on the 18th green and manually added the final two putts on the iPhone.  The round was only 3 hours and 7 minutes, too.

Should I get the LInk 2?

Forget the watch and get a Link.  I dont know about link vs link 2.  But scratch the watch.

I use my Apple Watch 6 for shot detection and leave my phone in my bag.  Works great and I’ve never had battery issues.    I can add putts or mark them as chips, mark the pin location, and see gps distances all from my watch.  No way I would trade that for a Link.

Just an FYI, I had added the P3 putter sensor to my putter a few weeks back and lost it this past weekend. Not sure if there is an issue with using it in the Pistolini Grip but will be extra careful going forward. I have to retighten the other sensors every so often, I thought I had with the putter also but it got loose somehow.

I realized my Apple Watch is v5 and the battery dies after 3.5 hours of shot detection.  It died on 18 green and after 14 holes on Sunday.  For me, I don't utilize the Apple Watch functionalities to buy the updated version.  I may just get the Link 2 and my Whoop on the course.

Is there a good comparison you would recommend to compare Arccos vs. Shot Scope side by side? My free membership for Arccos stops in January and I have a decision to make. I was fine with $100 per year but $155 just seems too much.

My experience has been great with Arccos and I would recommend using the link. Very rarely does the link miss a shot. That being said I would like to avoid a large membership fee that will probably continue to go up over the years.

While I certainly see the advantages of Arccos, I'm curious as to the value/benefits one will continue to see after a year or two of use.  I know that as players we are constantly seeking to improve, but I'm not convinced that continual tracking of data will be of added benefits over a course of years....at least not at the price of yearly subscriptions.

We have similar handicaps, so I would think that our paths to improvement is in the details more than the broad strokes.  Will continued tracking of our strengths and weaknesses add value or just give us data?

I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to have two different profiles with Arccos?  Specifically, my normal data on one, and a separate one that would represent my scramble team with my wife.

I think you would just have to create two different emails/accounts. Could link the same sensors but again you would be paying 2 subscriptions for that.

Hey everyone, not sure if you are using the P3 Putter sensor yet but I have lost 2 over the last two months. I use the Scotty Pistolini Plus grip and it feels snug in there but for some reason they have come loose.

I don’t throw my clubs and I have checked the bottom of my bag without success. I have ordered one more and I am going to tape the sensor on to my grip. I have been using the standard Arccos sensors in the rest of my clubs and have not lost a single one. Just frustrating.

That’s really strange.  I have the same Pistolini Plus and the new P3 and I have not lost it once.  Knock on wood.  Could the hole for the Pistolini be over stretched?

I have noticed that the P3 seems to be more accurate on putts taken and not ghost putts.

I tend to agree with you, even as someone who is 5-ish strokes higher. I really like Arccos, but I honestly don't know that I "need" shot-tracking or stats anymore. Now that I have been fitted for a driver and spent much of last summer (mostly) figuring the thing out, I know "approach" (irons) is my biggest weakness. My sensors are almost 3 years old, so I am grand-fathered into NOT paying a subscription. I hate the subscription model, so once these die, I will likely stop using any shot tracking. I've been a long-time user of various GPS apps on my phone, so I will likely still use Arccos for that, but put my phone in back left pocket where it belongs. Why Arccos over other apps? Mainly because I really like the adjustments for wind.

FYI I've seen tutorials online for disassembling the sensors and replacing the batteries, so you might not be SOL after they die if you want to avoid a subscription payment.

Well, I decided not to renew my subscription when the trial runs out.  While I enjoyed the information that Arccos was providing me, I found it more of a distraction to my play.  I felt the urgency to check to ensure that the strokes were right after each hole, then adding or deleting putts.  I believe that fixing ball marks then tamping them down was causing extra putts to be shown.  On one hole I 2 putted but 9 putts were recorded.

I have a Link, but found that the best accuracy was provided by using my Apple Watch with the phone in my pocket.  I always had difficulty starting the app when choosing the watch and had to just click to use the phone to get it to start the round.  With the Link, I missed the features on the watch.  Not sure why the watch didn't give all the screens when the Link was in use.

Anyway, I'll hold on to the Link and sensors for now, in case I change my mind.  Although I might consider selling the Link if anyone is interested.

I initially used Arccos a few years ago, had an issue with the app and ditched it until last summer when I got the 'free' sensors with a Ping club. I have to say, they have made HUGE improvements to the shot tracking and app stability. I'm about halfway through my initial subscription now and I'll definitely continue to use it as I believe it provides valuable data on where I'm losing shots. And it's humbling as hell!

The only thing I've noticed is that when it tracks putts, there are times you have to verify it didn't add an additional putt before moving on to the next hole.

My only other gripe is that I wish you had more flexibility over editing the clubs you have in your bag. Not a huge deal, but certainly something I notice.

Overall I'm happy with it, and I actually just ordered one of the P3 putter sensors to take advantage of the smaller size.

Weird, I just went back into the app store and manually updated the app (it wasn't showing up in the available updates list) and it now shows that it went back to version 4.11.8 and the new putting screen is now showing up. Something weird going on with the app updates for iOS devices, because it's not the first time that I haven't gotten new features via an update when they were released.

I am still loving Arccos.  The new stats are better, and the new v3 Putter sensor works better. Lots of data and lots of insights.  Its definitely a great system if you can get the shot tracking to work.  My set up with the new Link generally works.

But what I find frustrating is that some stats only show up on a desktop and not on the App, but on the desktop some stuff is a new beta (which is like 12 months old now), and some data is still in the older desktop version.

Lastly, why can't we get the App on an iPad so we can see our various stats on a bigger screen?

I had no intention of picking up an Arccos Link, but when Arccos told me it was 50% off for Ping users I pulled the trigger. It helped that one of my closest golf friends, who is super picky about gear, spoke highly of it. I ordered it Friday and it arrived yesterday. I got it out today and it worked great! Definitely nice not having to keep my phone in my pocket and the Link is super accurate. I’m not sure if it’s worth it for full price, but it’s worth checking out if you can get it discounted or used.

I tried the Arccos LInk, but my iPhone 12 battery drained quickly and almost didn't finish the round.  Apple watch series 7 worked with minimal battery drain and I can see yardages with Smart Caddie feature, too.

Does anyone know if Arccos ever implemented the ball analytics?  I’ve been putting in which ball I’ve been playing before each round religiously all season.

That's a great question.  Send a question to starter@arccosgolf.com and they will respond within a day.  Let us know what they say.

Played a round with my Apple Watch for the first time today (normally use the Link). Found the ease of getting yardages really helpful, and once I figured out the screens etc it was remarkably easy to use (although definitely not as feature-rich as using the phone).

Two gripes though - one, the mic seemed to not do as well as the one in the Link, it only picked up a few of my putts (but at least it makes them easy to add) and two, if you approximate the pin location using your phone to get a more accurate location before an approach shot, it won't allow you to mark the pin with your Apple Watch once you're on the green. Since I usually have my phone on my pushcart, not sure if I'll stick with using the Apple Watch or if I'll go back to the Link.

Played a round yesterday using Arccos with my Apple Watch, watch was fully charged and made it to hole 14 before asking to be handed off to the phone and died shortly after. Using Apple Watch Series 4 GPS & Cellular.....any tips or tricks to preserve the battery to get through the round or anyone else found this issue or do I just need an upgrade.....has made me look into shotscope but I do like Arccos.

My Apple 4 watch would just get me though 18 holes but the watch was dead to the world after that.  It was one reason why I stopped using Apple Watch for Arccos since it meant I needed a dedicated Apple Watch just for Arccos.  I'm sure a "newer than Apple 4 watch" has sufficient battery capacity, but eventually the problem reappears since the power/recharge on apple watches seems to get compromised faster than phones, for example. It is a very small physical battery. And GPS is (I was told) one of the highest battery capacity suckage functions possible, except real time heart rate monitoring I think - or maybe thats a tie.

My Arccos journey was:

  • Tags with iPhone (front pocket which was ok but not ideal)
  • Tags with Apple Watch 4 and phone in back pocket or in golf bag - though the watch interaction model would be a good thing, but sadly, as you mentioned, it turned my apple watch into a dedicated arccos device
  • Tags with Arccos Link and Phone in back pocket or in bag - this was a much better outcome until the link fell off twice when playing.  The "Find My Link" function required that I walk the course backwards to find it - which I did.  Form that I added a lanyard to the link so it would never fall off again.  Also found that the link really likes clear line of sight to the sky - in Canada, Spring and Fall can be cool and wearing a jacket was enough to block the link from getting sufficient GPS signal quality so I then started attaching it to my left side jacket pocket and connected the lanyard thingy to the pocket zipper so that would not again fall off.  All in all, I think the Link is best used in Arizona 🙂
  • Ended the arccos journey by going back to phone in front pocket mode.  Shotscope was purchased within two days after that

Tried going back to Arccos a could of times but could never get around the limitations I mentioned - which was too bad, since Arccos had the best data presentation model at the time.  I do think Shotscope has (mostly) caught up in that regard though, but I won't go back to Arccos again until they can get the shot acquisition method a bit cleaner for me.  And maybe it is just me since a large number of folks seem happy with it.

I have always been a big supporter of Arccos, but the last two rounds have me pretty bummed with so many missed shots and then not playing great having to go through and reload and recall and the crap shots I hit makes it even worse. So for the first time I am really and truly thinking about ditching the system entirely. I am going to reload and repair all the sensors and give it another go Tuesday. If that fails I do have a full set of unused sensors, but this may be my last season using Arccos.

For reference I have never had a issue with them before. Their CS has always been great and I do like the system, but this has been a little much for me. I am going on year 4 or 5 with them and do hope things flip back to normal, but given the other options out there it may be time to branch out.

I don't think the upside for me with Arccos paired with the Apple Watch is enough for me to splash out and buy the latest Apple Watch to try and solve the battery drain issues when I can get the complete system minus any subscription fee's from shotscope for much the same as a year subscription with Arccos.

I like Arccos on the watch tracking fitness during a round etc, and I don't want to switch to my phone as I like the convince of having the yardage right there on the wrist.

I have also had the missed shots from Arccos already however, when editing after the round it shows the '+' symbol in the position I took a shot so it picked it up but just didn't enter it for some reason? on the greens is another issue entirely missing quite a few putts making it very depressing changing Birdies to Bogeys after a round.

I used SkyCaddie, GolfShot, and other iOS apps in the past ten years, and none are flawless products.  Arccos isn't perfect, but it's easier to track and review shots using my watch or phone.  It does add more putts or shots during a round if I drop my wedge near the green, but they are easily removed with a quick edit.  After 91 rounds, my Arccos handicap (index) is 5.8, and the actual index is 5.7, which is pretty damn close!  Analyzing my stats and focusing on the negative strokes gained areas has improved my game this season.  My Smart Grips may last one more season, which is when I'll re-evaluate to stay with Arccos.
