Am I Overreacting?

I took my new Phantom X 5.5 to get regripped at Carl’s Golfland, and whoever installed the grip badly scratched the shaft and shaft band. They actually cut into the shaft a bit. I know it’s purely cosmetic, but is it right to be annoyed over this? I just paid $430 for the club.

Yes these things should be handled appropriately, even being a cosmetic issue I would not be very happy. I am sure whatever company did it has "liability clauses" for this which sucks but yea you have every right to be pissed.

Nope. Not overreacting at all. Shop tech did not use care and attention to detail. How much of a discount did you ask for?

not at all .. you pay for it to be done correctly... you didn't pay to get the shaft scratched...

This happened with my car the last time I took it in… I specifically told them NOT to touch the cabin air filter because I just changed it.  They did anyways. The fan sucked the filter in because the didn’t install it correctly… I let the manager know that I was not paying for any of it.  They fixed their mistake.

 

Hopefully these guys do the same.  If I were in charge of the place I would.  Good luck. And I hope they don’t give you the “not my problem” response.

You should, that's horrible work.  And if you go to sell it down the road, that's going to impact the price you'll get.  I'd definitely be having a discussion with the store.  Only way I can think of to really make it right is to send back to the Cameron custom shop for a reshaft and a new band, etc.  That'll take months....  Sorry it happened to you.

I just went to Carl’s. They were accusing of me “damaging” it by using a putter rack. When I mentioned the putter is new, the guy said I “shouldn’t have had it regripped. It sounds like you’re going to just resell it anyways”. After some back and forth, they’re going to ship it to Scotty Cameron to have it reshafted. Unbelievable!

sounds like poor customer service; but glad you are getting it fixed.     Lesson learned is that you should do your own regripping 🙂

WTF .. sounds like terrible customer service ... good they are shipping it out but I wouldn't go back there again

Maybe because I’m young (25) they think I’m stupid? They didn’t even offer an apology. Now I’ll be without a putter for a while. I guess it’s a good excuse to buy a new putter, lol.

Some of the sales guys are great. The guy I usually buy from showed me the new T100’s, and wow! Those are some nice looking irons.

Surprised that was their response... what a dip stick that guy is.  Good to hear their making good on what is clearly their screw-up.  I have so much more respect for businesses that step up to such things.  Stuff happens, we get it.  When I told the folks at Fairway Jockey about my swing weights being off, they quickly responded that they just flat out missed that on the spec sheet and that they would correct at no cost to me.  That, IMO, is how you cultivate long term customer relationships and, perhaps even more importantly these days, good street cred.

haven't had a chance to try it out yet other than hitting some putts on home rug but it sure is a great looking putter.  Thanks for selling it to me.

The guy claimed he could just "buff it right out", even though I told him they had cut into the metal. That's when he got all defensive asking why I even bothered to have it regripped. They never once apologized. I'll definitely be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

That’s not the point.  If you scratch my Ferrari (dreaming here) you fix it.  Not “bug it out”. Own up to your mistake.  
 

Glad they are doing it right though.
