Prompted by the MacGregor history thread, I thought this could be fun - though it may be a nightmare for club ho's with a LONG history. I've been playing for 57 years (15+ year hiatus from early 00's to 2017), my history has been:

  • Drivers & FWs: MacGregor DX > TM Burner Bubble > TM RBZ Black > Callaway Rogue
  • Irons: MacGregor DX > Wilson Staff RM Midsize > Mizuno JPX900 Forged
  • Hybrid (3h only beginning 2018): Callaway XR > Mizuno CLK
  • Putters: Acushnet Bullseye > Odyssey (model? - blade w black insert) > Evnroll ER2 > Ping Tyne4 (very brief) > Evnroll ER5B
  • Balls: Titleist (for 40+ years, all urethane tour balls) > Snell MTB > MaxFli Tour (maybe)

Clearly I stick with my choices for a LONG time...

  • Titleist TSR2 11° HZRDUS Red CB 50 6.0 TSR w Lamkin UTx Midsize
  • Titleist TSR2 16.5º HZRDUS Red 60 6.0 & TSR2 21º HZRDUS Black 4G 70 6.0 w Lamkin UTx Midsize
  • Mizuno JPX900 Forged 4-GW, S18 56.10, S18 60.06 w MCC+4 Midsize
  • Evnroll ER5B Fit@TrueSpec w P2 Touch Tour
  • Maxfli Tour & ProV1

I can’t possibly do this. All I can say is my journey started with Ram Bob Rosburg driver and three wood, a 3/5/7/9 iron of who knows what brand, no idea of the putter I started with, then my first set I got was at HS graduation. Golfsmith woods 1/3/5, and Dunlop Diamond Max irons. After that it’s all a blur….

Driver: Honma TR 460 8.5*, Aldila RIP Alpha 80 S, 45 1/4"; Ping G425 LST, Fujikura Speeder TR 661 S, 45 1/2"

hybrids: Cobra King Tec 17* and 21*, both with Graphite Design Tour AD-DI 105 X

Irons:  Srixon ZX5 4-6, ZX7 7-PW, UST Mamiya Recoil F4, +1”

Wedges: :edel-golf-1: SMS 50D/54V/58D:Nippon:Modus 130 stiff, +1”

Interesting subject.  Started late in life in 1985.  Will give it a try and never played anything with the Nike brand on it.  Bought a pair of their golf shoes and one of their shirts way back when and both fell apart.  Felt rest of their golf stuff was junk also.

Clearly I stick with my choices for a LONG time...

Mine would be a nightmare to remember all of them, what with all the club hoing that I used to do.

I can go brand though.  When I started playing golf in the late '90s, I was all Titleist.  My 1st real set of irons were Titleist DCI 981s  Then, in around 2005, I discovered Mizuno and there was no looking back.  Once you play Mizunos, it kind of spoils you for playing any other brand, although I have dabbled with pretty much every brand that there is.

This sounds fun. So, before April 2020, I had not had my own clubs since about 2010. I was in high school and super focused on baseball, plus I hit a growth spurt, so I had a long hiatus where I didn’t touch a golf club.

My first set of junior clubs was an all blue Wilson box set. After that I got a hand me down set from a cousin/uncle that was Ping Zing irons 3-SW, Cobra Baffler Hybrid, a Titleist 980F 3 wood and some sort of Mizuno blade putter (Anser shape). The set didn’t have a driver, and I was too tall for the junior driver, so I exclusively hit 3 wood off the tee.

I used that mix match set until about 2010 once baseball took over. Once my baseball career was done and COVID hit, golf courses were the only thing that was open. I searched all over the web for a full set of clubs under $250 and finally settled on clubs from Callaway Pre-Owned:

Driver: Titleist 983K

3 Wood: Titleist 909F3

Irons: Titleist DCI 762

Wedges: Vokey 200 Series, Vokey SM5 Lob Wedge

Putter: Odyssey White Hot #1

I was not working at the time and was finishing up graduate school. I told myself I would save up and buy new clubs once I got better and had taken a few lessons.

After going to the range a lot, taking lessons, and playing weekly, I saved up to do a fitting and buy my own clubs. I ended up being fit for and got these clubs (I didn’t buy them all at the same time):

Driver: Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero

3 Wood: Callaway Mavrik

3 Hybrid: Callaway Mavrik Pro

Irons: 4-PW Titleist T200

Wedges: Mizuno T20

I kept my putter until my wife bought me one for my birthday: Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas H7 neck.

I also decided to get a new lob wedge and went for the Ping Glide after playing an early morning round in the fall and not being able to keep the ball from releasing on the green.

Finally, I just made an iron change and purchased Miura CB-301 in 7-PW. I wanted more control and feel in my short irons, but wanted a club with a similar shape and loft to my current set to not mess up my gapping. Now I’m just waiting for the Moira’s to be built and arrive.

My first set of clubs were Top Flite which came 3 iron thru sand wedge with graphite shafts a 3 wood and driver

My second was all Callaway, Diablo Forged Irons with Big Bertha Woods and Driver

Third set was Ping G400 Irons with G400 woods and hybrids, Ping Glide 2.0 wedges and Callaway Driver

Now I have Srixon ZX7 Irons (4 thru Gap), Ping G410 17 and 19 hybrids, Titleist Vokey SM8 wedges 56.10 and 60.4, Taylor Made Sim 2 Max driver with an Evnroll ER11V putter

The biggest difference is I have been fit for all my current clubs but the hybrids which I just bought shafts with a similar profile to my driver

Starting from HS when I started really practicing and taking things seriously, I'm probably missing a few but I have really played a lot looking at it:

Driver: Mizuno T-Zoid > TM 300 > Titleist 983E/905S/905R/907D2/909D3 > Ping I15 > Callaway RAZR Fit > 917 D3

Fwy: TM R7 TP > Sonartec NP-99 > Titleist 906F2/906F4 > Sonartec GS Tour > Callaway RAZR Hawk > Titleist 913FD/917F3

Hybrid: TM Rescue TP > Mizuno MP Fli-Hi > Titleist 585H > Ping I20 > Titleist 818 H2
