What’s the best ball you have used under $50 in terms of consistency and quality?

I game the Maxfli Tour and find it performs very, very well. You can get 2 for $60 on the new model, $30 a box.

Prov1x for me. If you want it below $40 the snell mtbx and below $30 the vice pro plus. Although the smell and vice become much cheaper with the value purchase option

Second that thought.

Anyway...My votes are Pro Vs and Srixon Z-Stars. If I was more familiar with Snell, they may be here too.

Better to ask in the $30-$40 range. High end PRO V1 and TP5, but in the $30 range Srixon Q-Star Tour works for me.

I’ve been using Oncore Elixr for two years now. They are at least as good as ProV1, same cover and three piece construction and about twice a year can get bought at $20 per dozen in bulk.
Good quality balls for swings in the 70-85 mph range.

Sub 70 irons and wedges. Epic Flash sub zero driver and 3 metal. Callaway rescue 18 and 22 degree.

Every answer so far is really good. I have played all of them. Mainly for the reason that if you were to come play at my course you will find the best ball under $40 under a bush out in the desert. Used, but free.

Just a little humor, but probably not practical for you, so here is my actual suggestion. There are times during the year when Pro V1 practice balls are $29.99. TP5 practice balls same deal although can be found cheaper if you keep looking. They may be prior generation, but so what?  2 year old Pro V still better than most balls today. Check the major on line retailers often and you will luck in to this deal. They are legal for play.

Titleist Pro V1 Practice Golf Balls | Golf Galaxy

TaylorMade TP5/TP5x Practice Golf Balls | PGA TOUR Superstore

Driver: Callaway Epic 9 degree, stiff (set at 10 degrees with the movable weight in the center}

FW: Callaway Epic 3,5, heaven wood w/ regular shaft (driver shaft in 3 wood, 3 wood shaft in 5 wood, 5 wood shaft in heaven wood, all three set at neutral plus 1 degree)

Hybrids: Callaway BB19 4,6,7 (4 set at neutral plus 1 degree and 6 and 7 set at neutral minus 1 degree for gapping purposes)

Irons: Callaway Rogue ST Max 8, 9, PW

Wedges: Titleist Vokey SM6 50,54,58

Ball: Titleist Pro V1, 1X, Vice Pro Plus or anything I find that day and try out for the fun of it (I haven't bought balls with my own money in at least 10 years)

Remember when TaylorMade's "Project a" was the affordable "Tour ball for regular Joe's"?

TM's Tour Response has replaced "Project a" in their ball lineup.  Srixon's QStar Tour is a standout high-quality alternative in the $40 "near-Tour" space.  Titleist has their TourSpeed & TourSoft.

Everyone's best bet in the $40 range is the B2G1/B3G1 deals from Srixon or Titleist on Z/ProV which brings price down to $40 average.  "Prior generation" TourB/ZStar/ProV1 is a solid option, as well.

If you are losing a lot of balls, the $20-$22 range has Srixon SoftFeel as an excellent performance alternative to premium balls.  I was "drop and stop" spinning a SoftFeel earlier today even on 6i approaches, with great chip spin control, as well. Callaway Supersoft has improved quality and consistency in their latest generation, but beware discount prior gen and their poor quality control.  Titleist TruSoft is at the higher end here, around $24 a dozen, but the SoftFeel is probably a better ball, for less.  (Keep in mind, though, "soft is slow" they say here, so if you have a high swing speed, you may be sacrificing a little distance with a lower-compression ball).

Titleist 913D3 with Diamana S+ (Blue) in Regular Flex

Titleist 913F 4w with Diamana S+ (Reg)

Ping i20 17* & 20* with Project X Black 5.5

Bridgestone J40 Forged with DG R300 (2* Upright & +1.0")

Callaway Mack Daddy 2:  50, 54 & 58 degree (2* upright & +0.50")

Ping Scottsdale PickEmUp: center shaft, 33"

50 bucks is a funny place to draw the line.

If you'll spend $49,  you'll spend $54 too, no?

If you won't spend $54, wouldn't you be looking closer to $25?

Maybe not.  Just a thought.

The beauty of the Pro V1x is that you could order them all with ball  #79  printed on them.

Helped my keep my eyes on the prize.

If not for the "79,"  I was just as good with cheap Top Flite Gamers!

Was once down to an 8, briefly a 7,  but never had a game good enough to be ball sensitive.

As long as it wasn't wound.
