I've been playing the OnCore Elixir for the last year and a half. Very good ball and you can usually buy at 2 for $50. I play to a 7.2 and it does everything I need it to and you don't feel so bad when you lose one

Just switch from Bridgestone Tour B REX's to these, and gotta tell you THIS is my new go to ball after playing a few rounds they play and hold up just as well as the Bridgestones but $15-$20 cheaper... Hard to beat that deal.

20210828_190828.jpg

From Wisconsin

Playing Calaway BB X-12s standard length and steel shaft standard

Calaway BBA 9.5°/ stiff flex

Average about 105 on 18 but getting better!

I switched from the Srixon Z Star to the Maxfli Tour CG about 4 months ago based on the '19 ball test. The latest ball test confirmed (for me) they are a best buy in performance for the price. For my swing they are a longer ball than the Srixon, I'm about to become among the elderly(80),  and I need all the distance I can find!  And I like them around the greens as well.  Index is 13.6

  • matskline changed the title to Best ball under $40
  • 3 months later...

I actually believe in buying the cheapest ball that does what I need it to do. Titleist TruFeel and Tour Soft do everything I need. If the new Maxfli TriFli ball came in yellow I’d give it a try.
The Wilson Duo Pro is an exceptional ball and is on sale now. If it came in a non matte color I’d load up on those.

I find higher spinning urethane balls require more practice and consistency than I have time for.

I was referring to the new TriFli, not the Tour. I have seen the Tour in yellow but several people have said the yellow chips very easily.

I play the tour ball. I switch over to a yellow ball from the time the fairway grass goes dormant until it turns green again in spring. I haven’t seen any chips, cuts or worn spots yet. I rarely lose a ball and play it for quite a few rounds. I just pulled the one I used over the past four rounds out of my bag to check it. After cleaning off a dirt mark it still looks good as new. I can't tellyouhow it will hold up to a cart path because I haven't hit one with it yet.

Titleist Tour Speed ($40), Tour Soft ($35) TruFeel ($25) as advertised on their site, could be a penny or two less on other sites.  Good golf balls.  I would go with true and tested brands.  Some off brands claim as good as a Titleist.  NOT.  You get what you pay for.

The two best balls under $40/dozen for me are the Snell MTB/X and the MaxFli Tour/X - almost as good as ProV1 to me at least. Comparable performance, slightly less consistent quality - and I wouldn't know that if it wasn't for MGS Ball Lab. I played the Snell MTB exclusively for 3-4 years, switched to MaxFli Tour last year when Snell prices increased and they were rationed/out of stock at times. Again I never would have even considered the MaxFlis had it not been for MGS Ball Lab. At the moment I have 2 dozen ProV1's in the closet (gift from my wife) and 5 dozen MaxFli Tours.

Ah, my fault. The Tour is also under $40 so I got confused. I'm getting about 25-27 holes out of a single ball before there are any scuffs or chips, FWIW

Seconded. If you have enough driver spin for the Vero to work, it's an outstanding ball. For me, it was just so low-spin that I couldn't keep it in the air. (Naturally, that means that it's a full club longer on the irons...) -- for comparison, for me, ProV1x is usually ~2300 off the driver, ProV1 is ~2000 and VeroX1 is ~1800. Which means when you catch one high-toe and drop 300-500 revs, that thing isn't just knuckling, it's dive-bombing.

I started playing the Vice Pro last season and shot my lowest round ever with them (an 86 and also the first time I ever broke 90). Love them and at a great price. You can buy direct from Vice and get a discount for buying multiples, but Target and Walmart now have them in store for $35 a box. I am also going to try out the TaylorMade Tour Response after reading the ball test. I get emails from golfballs.com and picked up 2 dozen logo overruns for $30 a dozen. I will say just on feel that the Vice Pro are much more sticky. Looking forward to putting them both to the test in the spring!
