I'll 2nd the suggestion on Sub70 hybrids.  Great quality and the company is awesome to work with.  I'd probably say to pick up a 4 or 5 hybrid from them and see how it fits into your club gapping and then go from there.  For me the 5 hybrid is kind of like a 4 iron.  I have a 6 hybrid that replaces my 5 iron.

TM Sim2 Max  10.5

Ping G410 5 wood

Ping G410 7 & 9 woods

PXG Gen 5 0311P  5-gap

PXG forged 54 & 58 wedges

PXG Operator H w/ BGT Stability shaft

Hello all,

im fairly new to golf and wanted to make a hybrid purchase I hit 6-9 irons pretty decent I was looking into a 4-5 hybrid or maybe even a 3. I just want to buy one for now. What do you guys think?

Couldn’t tell you what degree to get.   Golf clubs are supposed to hit a club a specific distance.  If you are replacing the 5 iron it should go as far as your  5 iron; which is about 15 yards more than the 6.   Hybrids tend to be a little longer than irons so I’d start with the 5 hybrid and you may need to tweak the loft.

I carry my 6 iron about 160ish I’m guessing from the the range. I know for sure I hit my 7 150+

The idea is to have 10-15 yard gaps between clubs, regardless of the loft stamped.

If your 6i is 160, then ideally your next club would be a hybrid that gives you 170-175ish? It will be hard to tell distance just by looking at the loft, as different shafts and lengths will also affect that.

Well I can’t really hit 3-5 irons that well so does that help haha

That's understandable, so hybrids are probably an easier alternative to hit (although I personally hate them).

You could also opt for a 5 or 7 or even 9 wood if you hit those better.

But going back to your question: the reason why nobody here can't give you number for the hybrid is because all hybrids are designed differently and we are not sure what set of irons you are playing.

For example: let's take TM's SIM Max irons vs P7TW blades.

SIM Max 6i has 25* of loft.

P7TW 6i has 31* of loft.

Ideally you have a 4-5 gap between each iron (assuming they have progressive length, same type of shaft, etc.)

So now you want a hybrid, but should it be 4* stronger than a 25* 6i or a 31* 6i?

Another example: let's pretend you can hit a 3i which lofted at 21*. If you buy a hybrid with 21*, it probably will be longer than your 3i due to length, shaft, CG, etc.

So the only way to find out, is testing a few.

Or you can give us your iron model and specs and we can give you an educated guess.

That's a good start. I was going to recommend everything @Kanoito has already said. It would be a good place to start looking. Do a fitting and see what you like more. Maybe that 7/9 wood is a better fit than a hybrid.

2 questions to ask.

1. Do you wanted it gapped to the 6i?

2. Do you want something that goes longer than the 6i but shorter than your 3w

If I take an example of my irons the loft of the 6i is 27' and shaft length 37.5. If I look at the Apex spec 6h is 27' and 39 length so I would expect this to go 10 to 15yds further than your 6i the Apex also has the loft adjustment which allows -1' and +2' of loft. The 2 degrees can be as much as 5 yds off distance.

I myself carry 5-AW I dropped my 3i and 4i and replaced them with Epic 3h,4h both lofted up to 22' and 25' respectively and they gaps pretty well to 5i which is 24'. This was done the trial and error.

If the reason you can't hit 5i and below is because of the shaft length then a 6h maybe the one to start with
