What do you use to mark your ball?

Xander inspired me.  I think I’m going to start using one of these two beauties to mark my ball from now on… they are like gold medals, only pewter.  Too much 💪🏼?

So, I have a lot of special markers kept in an old watch box for use on special occasions. For the longest time I used an arcade token with Pac-Man on it from my old local Time Out arcade but lost that in a bag transfer. I also shared @bens197's proclivity for Canadian currency while I was in high school, as well as certain state quarters, namely Montana. I even have a marker from Pine Valley sent along by @jlukes for winning his guessing contest as to his performance at PV.

But now, I just use the magnetic marker emblazed with the logo of the NY Rangers on my divot tool. Why the Rangers? I don't really have a favorite hockey team, but their divot tool was the cheapest on sale at Burlington Coat Factory for 2.99... so Rangers it is.

I am constantly looking for the "perfect" marker... I used to use a 500 Lira coin, but lost it along the way.  Now I use a silver quarter I found metal detecting, or a 50 cent piece from my birth year.

I bought a set of these "corona virus" markers in different colors at the start of the pandemic last year. Our golf season was delayed by a month and this pandemic has really changed a lot of things. Gave them to my golf buddies to always remember this year (now two?) and to appreciate the time we have on the golf course and never take it for granted.

I also sometimes use a silver dollar of my birth year.

I use a custom copper ball marker made by the awesome Sawyer Co Golf:

One side has the seven pointed star, often used by Tool, one of my favorite bands. Its purpose is to keep bad things away, which should work well on the golf course 😆

On the other side is a quote by Sam Snead, and the two stars symbolize my two kids.

You know that when you return from a trip overseas, there is always some local currency still in your pocket?  Lately I have been using this 2 Euro coin from our most recent trip.

I have a custom ball number and name imprint so I don't go to the Sharpie at all.

But if you talking on the greens--I should have paid more attention--I've always preferred very old, real silver dimes, not the copper center ones from the past several decades.

Typically I either use a 1 cordoba coin or the free ball marker I got from @GolfSub70. I like to use coins from some of my travel when possible and the cordoba is a great size (basically the same as a quarter).Nicaragua 10 Centavos - 6 Cordoba Coin Set, 2014, Mint

I use different ones--- My favorite one has a story-- It is a $20 chip from a Tattoo parlor a friend owns. A few years back I beat him out of $20 in a match and he paid me off with that chip. When I play golf with him I always use it to remind him I took $20 off of him.

I have a couple from our old golf shop with our logo on them put up. Have an assorted lot of ones from my former course that closed down now almost 2 years ago. The last day they were open the gen manager gave me a bunch of them in a box from the stock room. Mostly I use poker chips. I have quite a few of them. A few years back in a Junked car I found a nice case with Tequila Patron poker chips cards and dice. Usually for me it is just whatever I pull out of the bag that week.

I picked this marker up a few years ago and haven't lost it yet.  I like it because the larger size is easy to find in my pocket and use when I am out of everyone's way.  The smaller center disc pops out when I am close to somebody's line.  If I am real close or i need to move the mark then i use a small plastic disc that has a peg on one side to give a real flat surface if their putt happens to roll over it.

Marking my ball means two different things to me.

It means using an old, real silver dime with no copper center to mark the ball on the greens.

You have to clean off the tarnish to make them bright enough to easily see.

The old dime is the closest thing that I have to a superstition.  I'd just call it a very old habit.

Then there's the Sharpie thing to mark the ball for identification.

I have a custom ball number and my name imprinted so I don't have to do that.

It's only an extra three bucks per dozen to get that.

I always go for the island fairway....I play for a 200 yard tee ball.  That is always an easy choice for me.  Maybe next time I will play to the right fairway to see what its like.

I think the tougher choice for me is the 2nd shot on 16.  Even if the tee ball is out there far enough to have me think about going for it in two, not being able to see the water in front and trying to hold the green from that far back has me laying up to the right more often than going for it.

Don't ever go out to the right...where is the fun in that?!  I do the same thing you do, I play a nice 200 yard shot and trust it.  16 is tough too, because anything just a bit off is in the water or if you are long you are pitching back down the hill with the water in clear view.  It's a good couple holes back there.

I have a small coin pouch full of foreign coins.  Canadian one and two dollar coins, some Mexican pesos of varying denominations and some coins from the UK left over from my trip to Scotland.

I usually use one of my company's markers that came with a Pitchfix, a Sub70 marker, or a Duke marker that a friend found left on a course. While the Duke marker directly conflicts with my Profile image, I did attend law school at Duke...

I have two. One is a gold dollar coin my dad gave me some years ago. Don't even remember why. I think it was change from some fishing related purchase. Shortly afterward he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed about 90 days later.

The second is a Belize penny. We operated a children's home down there for about 17 years and recently turned it over to friends of ours who live/serve down there. The ball marker is a simple way of reminding myself to pray for the ministry and the kids, many of whom we still know.
