Shaft weight driver vs fairways vs hybrids

Recommended Posts

Is there a standard or recommended relationship between driver shaft weight (and flex) versus fairway metals and hybrids?

Should fairways and hybrids be same or lighter or heavier than your driver?

What are advantages or disadvantages of heavier vs lighter shafts?

Thanks.

For flex not really because one could play and x stiff from one brand in driver and a stiff in another brand in their fw and either flex from a third brand in hybrid.

As for weight one could play same weight in driver and fw but the general rule of thumb is to go up a weight class from driver to fw and at least another weight class in hybrid.

the advantage or disadvantage will be golfer dependent in how they reps to weight. Some may need heavier weights to help with getting/keeping club on plane while that heavier shaft may cause another golfer to compensate for the heavier weight and feeling.

ive seen some play 60/70/85 in d/fw/hy

These are all things to be sorted out in a fitting so that the golfer has what works best for them in both the head and shaft

Typically the shorter a shaft is, the heavier it should be. Unless the shafts had very different profiles, you would be probably stick with the same flex.

A common setup might be Driver - 60 gram, Fairway - 70 grams, Hybrid 80-grams.
