I have thought about this before and I agree with @cnosil, no one manufacturer is best. I could argue Taylormade, PING, Callaway, Titleist easily. Mizuno and Srixon deserve some consideration too.

Given that, I have a Taylormade driver, PING 3 wood, Snake Eyes and Maltby hybrids, Maltby irons and wedges, and a PING putter. I could easily game another brand in any category.

Titleist TSI3 8°, Xcaliber Avalon 6 tour stiff, tipped 1", C3 surefit and H2 for backweight, D1 SW, 45 3/8", 40g counterbalance weight;

PING G425 LST 3 wood, set at 13.5° Xcaliber T6* tour stiff, tipped 1 1/4" 43 1/2", D1, 20g counterbalance weight;

Snake Eyes 19° Quick Strike Tour, Xcaliber T6+ Tour Stiff, 20g counterbalance weight;

Maltby TS-1 irons, Modus 120x soft stepped once, D5, 2° flat;

Cleveland RTX Zipcore wedges, black satin, 50°, 54°, 58°, all 2° flat;

Ping TR series Anser 5, 33", 2° flat, 1.5° strong, 75g optivibe at 2" down the shaft and a 12g tourlock pro+ counterweight

Srixon Z Star XV, TP5X, or Maxfli Tour X

I personally know Callaway clubs do not work for me. But this doesn't mean that they make a bad product or are less of a company because of that. I am just one person who isn't interested in their stuff.

I think there is tiers:

I: Titleist, Ping, TaylorMade, Callaway

II: Srixon, Cobra, PXG, Mizuno

III: The rest

And I think Srixon is really close to tier I

Maltby!

Interesting ranking and wouldn't necessarily disagree with it. However, there was an anonymous poll done a few years ago with EU & US tour players asking all types of questions about the game. When asked "Assuming you had no sponsorship, which club brand would you play?" the majority said Mizuno!

The "best" is subjective. How do you measure it? Is it by sales & market share? Is it by tour presence? Is it by return/defect rate? Is it by "value" IE what costs the least but performs the best?

There really is no best manufacturer. Only manufacturers whose products work FOR YOU, and odds are they might not work as well for someone else.

That is so odd, because Mizuno seems to have a really small PGA presence. And in the MGS poll Mizuno also scored much higher on perception than brands with much wider market share and reputation. I wonder what the deal is. I understand their irons are legit and there are a ton of guys who game them in our ranks, but it seems like everything else is lagging behind. I don't hear people getting hyped for their driver or wedges, and I know they make a ball, but I've never seen it in person.
