What a great use of X Ray and CT scanners. I guess the plandemic has left a lot of people in the medical community with nothing better to do.

Well...as a former healthcare IT guy, I am glad to hear that your images transferred through the system okay...and you didn't have to open a help desk ticket to retrieve them! 😁

Did the images out of hours when no patients booked while on my break. It's at the site I manage and my manager has no problem with it.

We're currently in lockdown, and our bookings are down as a result. Fortunately our area is doing ok at the moment.

I found it almost therapeutic after dealing with the daily stress of dealing with pandemic response, especially making sure we have adequate supplies of PPE to keep my staff safe and healthy.

So, I think we can all agree that MGS needs to invest in a CT Scan and an X-ray machine. Now, if we could only get the MRI in the study we can analyze the beJesus out of these balls. LOL Great work from a true golfaholic.

To put my technical hat on, MRI wouldn't be much use, as it basically demonstrates water, which hopefully modern balls don't have much of.

So while cool, as a chemist,  I cringe seeing a ct used on golf balls when there is a helium shortage (for those who don't know, helium keeps the magnets cold and prevent them from seizing and preserving their magnetic field strength. )

Thanks...I had to laugh as I've had MRI's and CT scans lately -- dealing with a plasmacytoma on my L4 vertebrae.  I have another coming up in October so I may try and stick a sleeve in my pocket...who knows what that would do to those who read these things...

2. Are you still gainfully employed?

Also, @rbsiedscI believe the helium is a sealed system and is only lost in high pressure situations like when the chiller cooling the helium pump fails. So no helium would be “wasted” scanning golf balls. @Shankster may know for sure. I service a lot of MRI chillers and only ever hear about the MRI service techs adding Helium after a crash.

Side note, gonna see if my insurance covers scanning my balls!!!!! 😜

The magnets are in the MRI machines, not in CT scanners.

My recent purchase of 4 dozen Srixon Z Star XV's arrived yesterday, so it was time to get to work (actually get to playing around with my balls at work😅)

I started by x-raying each box. I only performed 1 view of each ball, a dozen at a time.  I left the balls in their sleeves and boxes but removed the lid from the box. I tried to obtain sharp but not noisy images, so used a scatter reduction grid to tidy things up a bit.

The density difference and thin layers made it impossible to visualise the skin from the mantle layer, but the combined outer 2 layers and the inner core are easily visualised.

The normal radiographic rule is 2 views perpendicular to each other, which  I only applied to one sleeve. My rationale was that significantly non centred cores would likely be apparent on a single view, and small high density imperfections probably aren't very likely to cause problems when playing.  I did do a second view of one sleeve to determine (and demonstrate) if the high density imperfection was in the inner core or the outer core.

I have marked box 1 balls 4 and 10, and box 4 ball 6 to keep them separate. I will play a couple of practice holes with them to see if I can determine any difference in playing characteristics.

XRAY - a nice upgrade to Tony's Ball test. He should incorporate it into his process.

p.s. hope the xray's don't keep them from repopulating. 😄

I like the Z-Star XV’s. Spin a little to much on wedges and short irons, but a very very good ball.

HOWEVER, I have no immediate plans of having an X-ray of my “bells”.

Cmon, you had to know that was coming.
