Increasing Swing Speed

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to train to increase some club head speed?

Yes, the general recommendation is to do over speed training, improve overall fitness that includes some golf specific fitness items.    There are reviews and opinions on this site for tools like Suoerspeed and the Stack system for over speed training.

When I found the “rhythm” of my swing I was able to harness my max swing speed.
Video of my early swing was too “armsy” and  the harder I swing with the arms did not translate into more ball speed  Just more hand pain. I focus more on a spot in front of the ball for “swish” to happen and start the swing from the hips rather than from the arms and shoulder.

If you’ve never done any speed training you will almost certainly get faster by picking something and doing it for a while. What might be best for you depends on your physical conditioning ‘- if it’s not good - start there.

Good luck

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

I was an official SuperSpeed tester last year and in generally decent shape for my age (53). I found that the protocols by themselves were a decent "workout" for me, although I was going to the gym a couple times a week prior to the pandemic. These types of systems really work. I max'd out at 102 at the start ("cruising" speed on the course likely closer to 95-98) and at the end of the second jump I hit 120. On course and on trackman for fitting are in the 106 range right now, but I haven't been as faithful doing the workouts this summer. Others are trying the Stack system and Rypstick - you can find info on them in the unofficial testing threads.

There are multiple swing speed trainers.  MGS has done a product review of the superspeed sticks the past couple of years and several members have tried some of the other systems.   TXG just did a video highlighting several of them
