BIG STU 9,638
In the old days they did not have lead tape as we know it--- The old club makers used to heat lead and pour it on the back and hammer it to compress it. What I do on vintage clubs is to apply the lead tape and maybe hammer it some with a jewlers ball peen hammer to give it the hammered look. Now if you are like me and play the same set the lead tape will tarnish and get bag chatter too over time. Now I do not do it for looks but for function. Even though I have a Swing Weight machine I do not SW my personal clubs with it I go strictly by feel. I do not check my clubs and if the truth is known my SWs are all over the place but I do not care. NRJyzr 1,237
I'll have to dig up a couple pics, I'm away from my comp desk at moment. I am another lead tape disciple, slap it on everything I need to. Reshafted my MP37s with graphite, they were a bit overweight with steel, and wound up also having lead down the shaft, they needed a lot of tape to get back to normal. Even use it on putters. 2 Quote Driver: TM Original One 11.5* set to 11*, Aldila NV75 X, 43.5" -or- SpeedZone, HZRDUS Black 75 6.5, 43.5" 3w: Cobra King LTD, RIP Beta 90, 42" -or- Stage 2 Tour, NV105 X, 42.5" 2h or 3h: TaylorMade Stage 2 Tour, Aldila NV105 S -or- RIP Alpha 105 S Irons: 3-PW Mizuno MP37, Recoil Proto 125 F4 (reshaft in progress, slowly); 1i & 3-PW Golden Ram TW276, NV105 S; 2-PW Golden Ram TW282, RIP Tour 115 R GW: Dynacraft Dual Milled CNC 52*, Steelfiber 125 S; Scratch 8620 DS 53*, Steelfiber 125 S SW: Ram TG-898 56*, DGX ss2x; Ram Tom Watson 55*, DGX ss2x; Wilson Staff PMP 58*, DGS; PM Grind 19 58*, stock shaft Putter: Snake Eyes Viper Tour Sv1, 34"; Ping Scottsdale TR Craz-E, 35"; Cleveland Huntington Beach 1, 35" Ball: Wilson Staff Duo Professional, Bridgestone Tour B-RXS, Callaway Chrome Soft

IMHO of course. Somewhere in his writings, Dave Tutelman proposed an idea for adjustment when making big changes in shaft weight. If you are playing club X at a good swingweight for you, and you go to a lighter swingweight, his idea is to take 1/3rd of the shaft weight decrease and add it to the clubhead. In your case, that means adding back about 11-12 grams. I've been adapting a form of this as I've changed shaft weights in my irons and drivers.
