El Chivo
Has anyone had good experience going against the recommendations. 1. Using a rounded full grind on a firm dry turf? or 2. Using a sharp leading edge low grind in soft conditions? Recommendations are usually the opposite.... BostonSal
I've never gotten a wedge-style recommendation from a teaching professional, but I know what I like best if I can find it. Minimal bounce at all lofts. Minimal face to back camber at all lofts. Wedges with both minimal heel to toe radius and straight leading edges and generous heel to toe radius and curved leading edges---like to have both available. Also like choice of sole width. Cannot have every loft in every configuration, but for some shots, the configuration could be more important than the loft. cnosil
I typically play high bounce wedges no matter the conditions. If you just want to use basic techniques and not open the face a lot you can use any wedge. While lower or higher bounce wedges may be better in some circumstances you can get decent results with any wedge with decent technique…at least in my opinion. RickyBobby_PR
I haven’t gone against recommendations. I use the online fitting tools and they haven’t led me astray yet I play high bounce in sw and lw right now in both my sm8s as well as the TW mg2 wedges. CarlH
I tend to use a 10 degree loft in my sand and lob wedges. Years ago, I used a high bounce sand wedge and a low bounce lob wedge, but found that the medium bounce worked best for my game. Kenny B
High bounce in SW and LW with C-Grind sole from any turf and lie. Bounce is my friend. NRJyzr
By virtue of having shortish arms, my swing is a bit more upright than one might expect for a guy who is only between 5'11" and 6' tall (I might be exactly 182cm, for our metric using brothers/sisters). I can take a healthy divot. In spite of this, I seem to like using thinner soles on my irons. And in the chipping game, I've tended to prefer higher bounce in my wedges, which seems to be the opposite of many. Found quite a bit of success chipping with a 14* bounce Ram 58* wedge, until losing it somewhere. Continuing the opposite theme, I've never had much problem with low bounce wedges in the sand. Used to regularly carry Troon Grind wedges with their 3* bounce, never had an issue in the bunkers. I'm not saying I was a good bunker player, but I never had a problem getting out, in spite of the complete lack of bounce.
