I worked there 3 summers from 2001-2003 and loved it.  5-6 days a week from noon - 10.  Close the shop and then hit balls after work until 11ish.  I loved that job.

Oh I completely agree.  I’ve subscribed to the 3-4 year rule for my driver, I’d love to keep these irons for the same cycle and wedges are probably 2 years max.  

 

Putters…well, so far one year and I’m still amazed it’s stuck around that long…

Picked up a set of 223 (4-7) and 221 (8-pw) wow these feel great. The right shaft for me was the DG 120’s x100. So pure. My dispersion is low, scary low. The feel is unreal.

 

when I picked them up, lofts and lies were WAY OFF. (3° flat when i ordered 1° upright.

I had a sheet ready of all the lies, and what they should have been, to what I wanted. Before I even hit them, I had the shop adjust them.

After several days of rigorous testing, and fitting, trying out several shafts, heads, and combinations thereof. We used the Mizuno swing analyzer that did a pretty good job on some starting recommendations to start with. Then used a GC Quad to dial in the numbers to my best fit. My last irons were Mp20 -mmc so I assumed I'd probably go for the 223's this year. But the numbers don't lie and I got the best dispersion, with the 225's overall. After I was finally dialed in, I ordered a set of 225's and T-22 copper wedges back in January. We called to make sure they could make them to my desired swing weights of D2 in the irons and D4 in the wedges. Having large hands I use CP2 wrap jumbo grips that weigh 80 grams. The clubs are plus 1" with Recoil ESX shafts in the irons, and KBS High rev 2.0 in the wedges. Mizuno said they would have no problem building them to my specs as the had several heads that were on the heavy side, and achieving my desired swing weights would be no problem. I reminded them that they missed the swing weight on my MP20-MMC's last year, and if they needed to charge more to swing weight them I'd pay, but I wanted them right this time, not half assed.

About 3 weeks ago they came in. The irons were at C6-C7, and the wedges at D1-D1.5. These clubs were never checked, 5 lofts and 5 lies were off as well. For a company that prides itself on quality, this is un-acceptable. Mizuno offered to rebuild the set, but honestly my confidence was not big on them getting them right, or on it not taking several months to turn them around only to possibly get them back wrong again.

I then contacted Jim @McGolf custom (http://www.mcgolf.net/) about rebuilding my clubs. He said he could do them so I sent them to Ohio to be disassembled, swing weighted, and spined. Jim was a complete professional, offering up some great advice on the specs, and the process. And then completing the quality work quickly even though this is a busy time for skilled clubmakers. If I had to do this over again, I would have just ordered a set of heads and had @McGolf do the rest. Mizuno builds some great heads, but their assembly and quality control is not very good right now. I have ordered custom specs from Ping and they always sent my order thru the Works department, they were spot on upon arrival. Thankfully I got a guy who takes pride in his work to fix these for me. Hitting bombs and throwing darts now, these are the best irons I have ever owned. Just need to oil up these old bones and I'm good for another season.

Truer words were never spoken. My new set of p770’s are being mounted on red Ventus Regular flex shafts. Two years ago I wouldn’t even have considered regular flex. Now I’m dying for them to get finished.

but with that said, I’m sure hoping TM does a better job building them, than what the Mizuno crew is doing… whats going on over there?!?!

Still swinging the S59 from back I the day, but have always loved the Mizuno look and lore....its getting about that time for an upgrade, and these are high on the list

In a word Butter.

They are both fantastic. Leaning the 221 realm right now but who knows. They both felt absolutely fantastic.

Numbers for both were pretty consistent and fell between the below. I am not a number cruncher but I think they are good. Feel alone either one I am going to love.

I read yesterday that Mizuno is telling customers to expect a 90 day turnaround so you may want to jump on this sooner than later…

Going to hold off for a little bit. Get some more rounds in. Not in “need” if then just really want lol

... Just curious as to why MB's over the 223's? Especially a full set of MB's. I am not questioning your decision, I am just curious.

Well, I jumped on the Mizuno band wagon! I went to be fitted for clubs back in February and I hit all 3 of the new line. The 221s felt great but I am not a scratch golfer so they were quite unforgiving for my swing. The 223s gave me a little more carry and were much more forgiving. The 225s gave me about the same carry as the 223s, but were just a tad more forgiving on a few mishits. I ordered a set (5-PW) of 225 with the Project X LZ shafts. They just came in a couple of days ago and I just finished hitting the range with them. I obviously haven't hit them much but so far I am extremely happy. I will be hitting the course in the next few days and I'll keep everyone updated!

Hot damn. I didn’t need to see the 225s win most wanted players distance iron, but for some reason now I want them even more!

Maybe it’s just seeing them again, but I’ll need to try them out for a more proper demo/fitting and see if they can kick the Forged Tec out of the bag!

Mizuno 221s are lovely but not, I think, as pleasing to the eye as the exceptional MP20s.

Wow - 90 days/12 weeks lead time !!!  
 

My JPX 921 HM Pro/Forged order took exactly 8 weeks but ordered in early March - comments;

— KBS shafts were long LT back then

— GolfPride was back ordered 2 million  pcs. (all customers, fitters, shops, etc) per TXG

--  a local fitter told me Mizuno moved to a new plant to increase production but is short-staffed (like many plants) and Amazon moved into the old plant and took some employees

— I’m not skilled enough to detect a degree off in lie & loft but given others QC issues @ assembly I will have them checked

Commenting on this subject would be wrong.  I am a 14 handicap and presently play the mizuno jpx 2019 hot metal and find them to be long, accurate and forgiving.

I made the switch from JPX 921 tour 4-7 and MP 20 8-PW to 221 7-Pw, 223 4-6 and 225 3 iron. Made loft adjustments to close gaps in transitions. Absolutely love the Mizuno Pros.

... Awesome! While everyone is of course free to play whatever they want, I have never understood playing a full set of MB's unless shooting your lowest score is not your main goal or as some say not a goal at all. I understand playing a full set of MB's for fun. That said many better players might find very little difference (if any) using MB's in their scoring irons. I really love your new irons that produce exactly what we all want. Accuracy in the scoring irons, just a little help in the mid irons and all the help you can get in a long iron. Even the guys on tour play a more forgiving 3/2 iron.

Disappointingly I was not fit into any of the MP's yesterday...however, I was fit into the JPX Hot Metals. They were just so consistent in distance and dispersion.
