I think @Golfspy_CG2 did a review of BCL. It’s got to be here somewhere. Definitely on my bucket list; looks like golf Disneyland.

I went there way back before the golf courses were finished. Accommodations at Big Cedar Lodge were average at best, overpriced for the “quality”. We were disappointed with the rooms, but the grounds and activities were good.

Enjoy the trip!!!

Thanks for the advice. Honestly we are doing cheapest accommodation possible so not expecting much there. Just want to play great golf all weekend. Playing all 5 courses plus another on the way in.

Would love to know your thoughts on restaurants in the area also!

Big Cedar is awesome. I’ve played Payne’s and Buffalo and both are awesome. One of my best friends has played all and says Ozark National is his favorite. I hope to get up there in the next month or so to play all five courses. I’ve never play Ozark or the short course and Par 3.

Just got back from what was an incredible trip. Eleven 30-something year old guys just having a blast goofing off and playing golf (and of course my team winning 😁).

These are probably the best courses I have ever played. From fairways to the rough to the greens (I will dream about these greens) it was top notch. Not a blade of grass out of place to be found over all 3 main courses (Payne’s Valley, Buffalo Ridge, and Ozark National) and the two par 3 courses (Top of the Rock and Mountain Top). Each course was unique in its own way but had similar characteristics as well. They were all very tough, from the wind to the layout and the rough. I was able to stay in the 80s on all 3 days from 7k yards on buffalo and ozark and 6900 on payne’s so I was thrilled with my play.

We all discussed which course we liked the best, and I had a really hard time choosing, but landed on Payne’s Valley (still not sure) just because it was unlike any course I had played before and the 19th hole was a really cool touch as well (3 birdies didn’t hurt either 😂).

The whole facility and customer service experience was amazing as well. Had one of the coolest dinner views on the last day at Osage and an incredible ribeye steak.

Needless to say, it was a blast and I would highly highly recommend this for anyone looking for a unique, fun and challenging golf experience! EA5A0161-B451-4B48-8A09-91026C7B26BA.jpeg.e1390f82e2dfffb14bbf34c61e6a908f.jpeg7E49E1E9-C2E0-438F-8A6C-E0E9188DE8AF.jpeg.1be51876ad9db2e527c7ffb26cca64e1.jpegD00F2B27-863F-4428-B935-346A93C6AD38.jpeg.70a0111adfe817734268dc2969710800.jpeg43120D51-4476-4DDC-AFEB-11DA30416F2F.jpeg.9c71e4650a0da7364eefde2c9e044145.jpeg8F63E0C5-FFE4-4333-8090-A770BE405E7B.jpeg.35c33c4618deafe198dcfe78f85939f8.jpeg

Played Buffalo Ridge end of February before a big Snow storm.  Started to spit snow on 17.  I had the course to myself not another person on the course.  Can’t wait to go back with green grass.  It was a fun round nonetheless

A place in town on the strip called Dockside has good food.

As @Ben_Howell34 recapped above, 11 of us from Alabama took over Big Cedar Lodge. We played all 5 courses (Payne’s Valley, Buffalo Ridge, Ozark National, Mountain Top, and Top of the Rock) and had a blast! We were a little worried about weather coming in but didn’t have one rain drop on us all weekend.

Here’s my rank of the 3 main courses and then the 2 par 3 courses. Hard to pick as every course was immaculate and worthy of playing over and over.

1) Buffalo Ridge - course has been around the longest of the 3 main courses. I really enjoyed the tree lined holes as compared to the other 2 courses. Really fun layout to challenge yourself off the tee and around the greens. My favorite stretch throughout the weekend was playing 13, 14, and 15. You have to eat the Buffalo dog after hole 5. Such a clutch mid round snack. Ozark National has it too.

2) Payne’s Valley - *disclaimer* I made the poor decision to play from the Tiger tees (7500 yds) in 30-40 mph winds. Performance during the round was not great. The course is incredible though. It has your challenging par 3 and 5s as well as your long par 4s to combat a couple driveable par 4s. Enjoyed the snack house after 9 where I could load up on snacks for free.

3) Ozark National - another really pristine course as I attempted to do what Phil did on the Champions tour here. Unfortunately didn’t succeed, but had a lot of fun playing it. Really cool layout of holes. The back 9 was the toughest 9 I played all weekend. I enjoyed the challenge of holes 12, 13, and 16. This course had a snack hut after 9 as well which come up clutch.

Par 3 courses

1) Mountain Top - I actually enjoyed this one a little more than Top of the Rock. 13 holes, all varying in distances and elevation. Wind was a little brutal as we played it the same day as Payne’s, but that was a fun element to add into the mix. Really enjoyed it as a walking only course and some really cool walks between holes.

2) Top of the Rock - 9 holes. Every single course was kept in such good condition. This was a great way to finish the trip in the late afternoon and have dinner at the top of the course as the sun was setting. This course wasn’t really a “keep your score and compete” type round. More of a “enjoy with your 7 people” and hit multiple shots into these fun layout of holes. I also was expecting to see the incredible range they used to have, but a sinkhole wrecked that plan. I should have done more research on that, as it happened a couple years ago I believe.

TLDR: it’s worth it. Yeah it’s a little expensive, but it’s worth it. Awesome experience.
