brutal brutus
Well... What can i say? So far, they are every thing i had hoped for. Played a quick 9 right after picking them up on Monday and hit them... OK ish. Was supposed to play again yesterday but couldn't... So, i played 9 this morning and was making solid contact on the first few holes but was spraying them a bit but even those mishits told me something. The T200s seemed to amplify everything i was doing wrong. If i hit it a bit thin, they would launch like a line drive and on a slightly chunky shot, they would fall like a wounded duck. There was very little in between except for near perfect strikes... and when i did that, they were majestic. High and far and landed soft(and it was addicting to the point that for the better part of 2 months, i put off what i knew i had to do... Get the AP2s functional and test them out). On hole 4 at The VIneyard i finally took a par on that seemingly straight forward par3. Only the green is a triple tier and I've been short siding myself or chunking short. Have taken several dubogeys and a couple triples. Not today though. Hit a beautiful 3/4 9i from 135ish but it still spun back off the sloped front tier, lol. Made a routine chip and got down for par. On #5 after a perfect 3w shot left me just short of a pond, i knocked my PW up onto the top tier of the green and lipped out for the bird from 15ft.(Btw, this course has 5 multi terraced greens and the only one that's flat, is the putting green next to #1's tee). Pushed my tee shot right and then chunked one into the water on 6 made a decent recovery shot to save a double. Another pretty good 9i on the par3 7th but pulled it onto the left side of the green and 2 putted. After a really good drive on the uphill par5 8th, i hit one of the best 5i I've ever hit. shot was 185 gradually sloping uphill with a 5-8mphR-L headwind. Was about 10ft short of the green but i got every last yard out of it and If any of you had been there, you would agree it was a great shot. Probably should have hit my 27* hybrid since i didn't have the 4i with me(more on that club later) but i was out there to give these irons a shakedown. Played Army golf on #9 to finish the round. Fast forward to 4:30ish and my golf buddy called and told me he got off a bit warly and was heading to the range. I thought it was a great idea and joined him for a large bucket right before dark. Hit a couple wedges/9i's to start and was hitting them really well... ...then I pulled the 7i... Like most of you i would guess, the 7i is my magic club. I could hit my old 7 anywhere from 150 on a normal 3/4 swing, or play it back a hair, hood the face, and hit 190 until with reasonable accuracy. I could also play some useful escape shots shaping both draws and fades out of or around trees. It was a match made in fairy tales, lol.. That is until i got the T200s. I could not hit that thing for nothing. Hit both the 6 and 8i's fairly well but like the others, a slightly off ball strike was going to turn ugly... First swing was nearly perfect. One of those shots you hardly even feel the impact in your hands. and It was like rekindling a high school romance at the 10yr reunion, lol. 6 range balls flying the perfect flight and all landing within 15yds of each other around 170ish. 2 others i chunked a bit but still flew 140+ and 1 other than i just pured out to 180 or so. I also brought the 4i out with me just to give it a chance. I hit that thing pretty damn good also. By then it was almost dark and couldn't really teel how far they were going but they felt good anyway and I'm guessing they were getting out to 190-200. If i keep hitting it that well, I might have to rethink my 27* hybrid. I really hope this wasn't a fluke, lol. Another thing that might have my bag in flux again. The PW is only 46*, which leaves a rather large gap till i get to my 54* 14B F SW... So, do i get another Vokey to fill the gap(and then have to leave both the 27* AND the 4i out of the bag, giving me 46*-50*-54*-58*? ...or do i have my 54.14F tuned down to a 52.12F and have a 46*-52*-58* spacing for my wedges?... Decisions, decisions.... brutal brutus
Snagged a brand new 50.12F Tour Chrome Vokey today. Was going to wait for the right used jetblack version but i figured what the hell since i had a store credit and the shop gave me $20 off since they didn't have the model/grind i was really wanting... ...Also, i have a feeling that 3 JetBlack SM9s will find their way into my bag by the end of the year, so it didn't really matter what finish it had... Took me a couple dozen swings to knock the rust off but once i got into a groove, i hit 8 of 10 over 270yds, with two nearly hitting 290yds and more or less pretty straight. Was getting 140s ball speed from my 105-110 club speed. All in all, not bad for mid-February in Ohio, lol. I fully expect to be hitting my TSi3 at/or over 300yds come late spring/early summer. brutal brutus
Well, I finally decided on a bag setup for now. It could change when it warms up but as of now, I'm going to kick the 27° and 4i out of the bag in favor of the GW. I also swapped the shaft in my 27° to the 23° because I like the way that Tensei loads compared to the Fujikura. It hurts to do that though. The 27° still looks like it's only a couple rounds old and, while not abused, the 23° has definitely seen some use. But like I said above, that could all change once it warms up and I'm getting at, or near, full distance from each club. Another thing I've been thinking about was tuning the 19° up to 20° and the 27° down to 26°. Since I have that full weight kit for the 818s, I can fiddle around with some of the Draw/Fade biased weights to try and even out the face open/close effect from changed the loft.... Though, if I do wind up doing that, I might get a 21° 818 so I am tuning both of them the same way. Plus, the 19° is the most worn of the three hybrids. Since I already have the shaft I want, I can probably find a good deal on ebay or 2ndSwing for an 21° 818 "head only" in decent shape. It's also possible that the local Golf Exchange has one... or maybe something else i might want to give a try... I've been eyeing those Ping hybrids Quote Driver: TSi3* 10° HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 60g 6.5 D2** 3 Wood: TSi2 16.5° HZRDUS Smoke Black 70g 6.5 A1** Hybrids: TSi3* 20° EvenFlow White 90HY 6.5X A1** TSi2 24° HZRDUS Smoke Black 90HY 6.5 D4** Irons: 716 AP2 5-GW TT S300 (GW is S100) Wedges: SM8 Jet Black 54°14F, 58°08M Wedge Flex Putter: White Hot OG #7s *All clubs with an adjustable weight, are set to neutral **Hosel setting Ball: Kirkland V2 or Chrome Soft Truvis Yellow
brutal brutus
Well... I couldn't resist. I was digging thru the ebay listings and came across a "head only" TS2 21° hybrid that is in pretty good shape(well, if the pictures aren't lying, lol)... and the price was right. Who knows, i might not like it and wind up sticking with my 818 but i figured what the hell. I had looked at one in one of the local shops but they wanted nearly double what i paid for the head and the one at the shop looked to be in slightly worse condition. It did have a pretty good shaft on it though but i already have one fitted for me. brutal brutus
Hmm... Not sure if I like this TS2 hybrid. First mistake was getting a 21°. As I've been struggling with hitting my 3w off the deck, I've come to the conclusion that I need a 17 or 18° hybrid for that shot. My old 19° 818 H1 is good at that shot but not quite enough distance. Been keeping an eye out for a decent 818 H2 17° but I'm not sure if that will jive with my H1s. At least the TS2 will be good trade bait if something pops up at one of the local shops... I need to win another $500 on a scratchoff and get a pair of TSi2 hybrids lol... brutal brutus
Went to the range this morning to do some side-by-sides with my hybrids and long irons to try to figure this mess out. Along the way, I think I figured out why I wasn't clicking with the TS2 hybrid... I was trying to hit it like and expecting the results to be similar to my 818 19°. It finally dawned on me that it's not going to carry the same distance and stopped trying to muscle it out to 220-230.... and wouldn't you know it, 210ish yard high launched, soft landing beauties started flying off the face of it, lol. So, I think I'm going to give the TS2 #2 hybrid a try. Found one online with the right shaft and grip for a decent price. Hopefully it's still available in a week. It should serve two functions, first being my "long/driving iron" and then, hopefully, it can also be consistent as my "3w/5w" club from the fairway. Eventually I think I can get my 3w launching properly without a tee but in the meantime, I think this will work. it may just come down to gapping. Also, I've almost pulled the trigger on a set GW for my AP2s. One was an auction and I got distracted by something and forgot to check it again before it ended or I might have had that one already. brutal brutus
Just ordered my next hybrid... TS2 17° HZRDUS Smoke Black 6.5 Found a lightly used one on 2ndSwing. It was listed as an 8(Average) but the face was near mint looking. It had a couple scratches on the top which likely held it back from being a 9 rating but that's fine with me. So, here in a few days my hybrids will be... TS2 17° TS2 21° 818 H1 27°(i will be tuning it down to 26°) I think(well hope might be the better word) that this will end my Club Acquisition Syndrome for the time being, lol... Well, unless i wind up pulling the trigger on a set GW to match my AP2s. But I'm starting to hit the vokey 50° pretty good, so I'm not so sure I will make that purchase. Me likey... it may whack better than it looks and man does it tell you when you struck one well. This TS2 17° has a distinct metallic "ping" sound to it, which only gets louder the better you hit it. Strangely, it has a completely different sound than my TS2 21°, which has a cracking kind of sound, with a bit of a metallic clink underneath. Not really sure how far i was hitting it, as the range i went to has a weird distance marking system but it was carrying 15-20yds further than the 21°. I'm guessing it was in the 230range with a couple stretching to 240. Not bad on a bit of a chilly spring evening with a mild headwind. brutal brutus
Haven't received it yet but i recently found a good deal on what looks to be a nearly mint 716 AP2 GW on ebay. I like the 50° Vokey but I've been wanting to try the set gapper and couldn't pass on this deal when it popped up. Supposed to be here Friday... just in time for what should be a beautiful weekend for some whacking. In other news, i think i might have to try getting my grips changed. All my grips, except for one standard Lamkin, are standard, Tour Velvets and I've been experiencing some minor draw action on my irons and from doing some research on YT, i think i need to try moving up a grip size. I'm hitting them well and, for the most part, they start out on-line but then slowly draw off or the near the edge of the green left... Fortunately, the GW i just bought has a midsized MCC grip on it, so i might not have to spend any extra money and just try that out for awhile to see if it helps. Though I might also get my 7 or 8 iron changed to get a longer iron involved in the test. Weird thing is, I'm not really seeing the same action with my hybrids, just the irons and wedges... brutal brutus
Hi, my name is Brutus... and I have an addiction.... and a problem... Got a new toy today. Was hitting some balls at the range after I played 9 this morning, when I realized how much of a gap there really was to my 27°. I have been window shopping for a 25° Ts2 for a couple months just as an upgrade for my H1 but after seeing what I saw this morning, I figured I'd better start looking a little harder... So, on the way home, I stopped at Golf Exchange to see what they had in the used rack... I looked at the obvious things first. The Stealth, Rogue and both of the Pings... and then I noticed this thing down in the bottom corner... Now I know what you're all thinking... "Why are you looking at a 3Hy?" Well, I just picked it up because I have been contemplating switching over to the thinner style hybrids. Then I really started looking it over... Evenflow 6.5x 90hy shaft?... Check Golf Pride Tour Velvet? Check Condition? The face is near mint and as you can see in the pic, whoever had this before, didn't use it much. Then I roll it over to look at the price... $189 LOL I mean damn, the condition 7 tsi3 hybrids are $220+ on 2nd Swing and this thing is at least a 9 if not a 9.5. So, I went out to my car and grabbed my 50° Vokey and my 21° Ts2 hybrid. The Vokey hasn't been used a lot, so it's like an 8.5 or 9.0. The Ts2 is probably more like a 7. I was expecting maybe $100 between the two on a trade... but they offered $106 for the Vokey and $65 for the hybrid... I was rather shocked. So, I just picked up a near mint TSi3 3Hy for basically sales tax... My problem now is... They only make TSi3s in 18° and 20°. Now I have to find something in the 24-25° range that will fit with my new toy. I think for now, I will keep the 17° Ts2 and maybe pick up an 18° Tsi3 down the road if the right deal comes along. Tune it down 17 and tune the other up to 21... ...and hope the TSr3 hybrids have another option in that 23-25 range... vandyland 1 Quote Driver: TSi3* 10° HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 60g 6.5 D2** 3 Wood: TSi2 16.5° HZRDUS Smoke Black 70g 6.5 A1** Hybrids: TSi3* 20° EvenFlow White 90HY 6.5X A1** TSi2 24° HZRDUS Smoke Black 90HY 6.5 D4** Irons: 716 AP2 5-GW TT S300 (GW is S100) Wedges: SM8 Jet Black 54°14F, 58°08M Wedge Flex Putter: White Hot OG #7s *All clubs with an adjustable weight, are set to neutral **Hosel setting Ball: Kirkland V2 or Chrome Soft Truvis Yellow
brutal brutus
Found the last hybrid I was looking for and have my final bag setup... (Well for now anyway, lol...) Traded in 2 of each of my old 818s and 816s plus the 818 weight kit I bought awhile back and picked up a near mint 24° TSi2 hybrid for $70 after the trade value and taxes. Will probably turn that up a degree and my hybrids will be TS2 17°... TSi3 20°(21° in the D4 hosel position) and TSi2 24°(25° in the D4) Not a bad week. Picked up $450-475 worth of hybrids for $100ish and don't have to bother with the hassle of selling my old hybrids and a vokey on ebay or FB Marketplace EDIT: The only thing I have left to do atm, is getting a shaft for the 24° that better matches my other hybrids and maybe a new shaft for my 3w Edited August 18, 2022 by brutal brutus Quote Driver: TSi3* 10° HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 60g 6.5 D2** 3 Wood: TSi2 16.5° HZRDUS Smoke Black 70g 6.5 A1** Hybrids: TSi3* 20° EvenFlow White 90HY 6.5X A1** TSi2 24° HZRDUS Smoke Black 90HY 6.5 D4** Irons: 716 AP2 5-GW TT S300 (GW is S100) Wedges: SM8 Jet Black 54°14F, 58°08M Wedge Flex Putter: White Hot OG #7s *All clubs with an adjustable weight, are set to neutral **Hosel setting Ball: Kirkland V2 or Chrome Soft Truvis Yellow

I went ahead and had midsized GP Micro suede grips put on my 7-9-GW, 20°hy and the 24°hy came with a midsized Tour Velvet... and so far, I definitely see a difference. I'm making much better contact with those clubs, and they also seem to be flying straighter than before. Another reason I wanted to try this, is the arthritic pain I'm getting in my right ring finger. So far, I haven't really noticed anything different but I haven't changed all my clubs over... yet... Stay tuned... brutal brutus
Been trying something out the last few rounds... The TSi3 20° hybrid is an awesome club. I have been hitting this thing so long that I decided to try taking the 17° out of the bag and putting my 5i back in. There has been a hole in my gapping since I tinkered with my hybrids the last time. My 24° hybrid is a 210-215yd club and my 6i is 180-185 on a good day. I have learned that I can't take an "easy" swing with a hybrid and still make solid contact consistently, so I had been hooding the 6i and swinging a bit harder to try and cover the gap. Which works ok most of the time but doesn't really hold the greens very well unless I'm hitting from an elevated position. Plus, I tend to put some draw spin on the ball when I do it. It's been a bit of a work in progress with the 5i but I've hit some good shots with it...also some bad ones, lol... But that's how it goes when you're a midteens handicap, right? brutal brutus
Been looking at putters lately and found a deal I couldn't pass up... Traded in my 2hybrid with a Diamana R-flex shaft(put the HZRDUS 6.5 on my TSi2 hybrid and then swapped the Tensei with the Diamana that was on a 816 H1 I gave my brother) and my old G2i CraZ-e. Got $100 for the hybrid and $20 for the putter and then used that to snag one of these in near mint condition... It was tagged at $169.99 and they gave me $30 off. So, I walked out the door $39 and some change lighter for a $220+ putter... Btw, if any of you live in the Cincinnati, OH area, Check out Golf Exchange in Eastgate. Those guys really know how to take care of their repeat customers. Can't believe I got $100 in trade for that hybrid... brutal brutus
Oops... Just realized I have the 7s model, which has some toe hang(a term that, tbh, I had never heard of till I looked this putter up, lol...) but it's less than 45°. Interestingly, I think I might have accidently chosen the perfect putter for me. While I try to come straight back and thru, I do have a slight amount of arc to my putter stroke. So, in theory, and according to the vids I've been watching, it should line up with the amount of toe hang this putter has. There was definitely something about this putter I couldn't quite put my finger on when I was messing around with the offerings they have at Golf Exchange. I have liked the look of the "Fang" style putters ever since I started playing again last year and saw the one that one of the guys, I was playing with was using. So, over the last month or so, I had been looking at several different brands trying to narrow it down when I saw the one I eventually purchased sitting there amongst the used putters the other day. This one just felt right in my hands at impact on the few putts I hit with it.
