Garmin Golf App major map errors

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else noticed problems wih the 'updated' maps on the Garmin Golf App?

On my home course 2 very large water hazards are just not showing.  They still appear on the watch display, but not on the new style shot tracker maps.  I suspect that they will be missing from the R10 maps too.

I have reported it on the 'course update' website thingy.

(I have also posted this on the MGS User Group -Garmin forum(

Yes, I’ve noticed the same thing on my home course.  It’s missing a couple water hazards on one hole and another has a tree in what is really a shadow on google maps.  I’ve reported it to garmin as well, but nothing has been updated yet.

My Garmin S20 was very accurate for every course I played, until I moved to a new regular course. A couple holes are off by 10-20 yards on approach shots, but they've been off for a couple years. Forced me to buy a rangefinder. I may be wrong but I don't think the maps are actually Garmin IP, I think there are separate companies that map courses, and Garmin pays them royalties for their use. So writing Garmin isn't likely to change anything. It seems even more unlikely that SkyCaddie, Bushnell, Golf Buddy and other golf GPS companies have their own maps.

For any course with accurate map files, presumably there are many, GPS is all you need and it was all I used for years. Unfortunately where I play now a few courses are simply wrong on a few holes, too many courses to rely on memory to know which holes. Laser rangefinder fixes that issue 100% (I can always get a line of sight).

I think you’re right.  It’s funny, there are two courses near my house on Home Tee Hero that closed down years ago.

  • 3 weeks later...

Over the last two weeks the Garmin Watch to Garmin Golf App has been off by a lot.  Thought is was a GPS issue in steep hills and valleys courses from watch not getting distances accurately.  However yesterday on my home course on a par five that is 540 yds.   First drive was good, watch gave 295 to hole, debated laying up but then hit 3 wood onto green, distance given for 3 wood shot 260 yds.   So watch at 295 yds was wrong.   On hilly courses the distance to hole seemed off entire round.
