Chip Strokes
ok, here’s the story. long post, so bear with me. my mother in law joined a country club this year. she joined for the tennis and socializing but there’s an awesome 9 hole course at the club. i got out 3 times this summer. once with a friend of hers, and twice as a favor from the GM. it’s the perfect scenario. we drive to her house. my wife and son get to hang out with grandma, and i get to golf. she’s getting me out again on friday i know what you’re thinking. “Chip, what do you need us for? there’s no problem here!” you’re right, there isn’t. or at least there wasn’t until about 2 weeks ago, when my wife’s two brothers Frick and Frack “played” their first round of golf on a muni course down in florida. i was talking to her earlier when she goes “the boys are excited to golf with you on friday” my brothers in law are the last people you want to see when you’re out playing golf. they’re the idiots you see on instagram running each other over with a cart in their backswings. i’m trying to find the right way to tell my MIL that for her sake and mine, taking them out at the club is a terrible idea. my first thought is to offer up that if they wanna learn, ive got no problem playing a few rounds with them at a local muni or public course. if that doesn’t land, then i’m just gonna hit her with “if you wanna stay a member, don’t let them golf” what would you guys do here? tony@CIC, Rickp, Vegan_Golfer_PNW and 7 others 3 3 4 Quote SIM2 8º | KuroKage XD 70TX SIM 3W 14º | Fujikura Atmos Black Tour Spec 9TX SIM2 5W 18º | Fujikura Ventus Black 10X U500 2i | Fujikura Ventus HB Black 10TX T100 4-PW | Dynamic Gold X7 SM6 52* SM8 56* SM8 60* | Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 DW | BGT Stability Tour

If she's not one of the types of parents where it's "My kids are angels" and she's aware that they do this kind of stuff not on a golf course, then the diplomatic answers suggested earlier are perfect. If she loves the country club, she's not going to want to jeopardize her membership or her relationships with the staff and people there. And suggesting the middle ground of a few rounds on public courses first is perfect for presenting a solution, not just the problem. tony@CIC and MattF 2 Quote Rag tag bag, but it does the job. Chip Strokes
i appreciate everyone’s input, truly so, despite my best efforts, ive got a 12:10 tee time tomorrow with my brother in law who has played exactly one (1) round of golf in his life. i told her straight up that i think it’s a bad idea for her and also that i don’t want to get lumped in with him if he acts like an idiot because i’d like to come back and play again. it got shot down with “i talked to him about golf course etiquette” how she did that, i don’t know. my MIL has played exactly zero (0) rounds of golf in her life. so, now i’m wondering how best to handle this. do we play from the forward tees? do we play a scramble where he hits a tee shot and then we go play from my ball? do i have him tee it up at the 150 marker in the fairway? i wish i could’ve said no. but i would’ve looked like a real a**hole and i also would’ve missed out on a free round at a nice course. i guess it beats going in to the office though tony@CIC, sirchunksalot, Rickp and 2 others 5 Quote SIM2 8º | KuroKage XD 70TX SIM 3W 14º | Fujikura Atmos Black Tour Spec 9TX SIM2 5W 18º | Fujikura Ventus Black 10X U500 2i | Fujikura Ventus HB Black 10TX T100 4-PW | Dynamic Gold X7 SM6 52* SM8 56* SM8 60* | Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 DW | BGT Stability Tour

Chip Strokes
ive got a pretty anticlimactic update for everyone. aside from frick showing up like 3 minutes before our tee time, things went about as well as i could’ve hoped. we played a “scramble” and used my tee shot on every hole. he was on his own from there. most holes i just had him pick up at double par i don’t think he got a ball in the air all day, but he seemed to have an ok time. he even sunk an 8ft putt. i had to remind him a few times where not to drive the cart, but other than that it was really uneventful. maybe i made a mountain of a molehill after all.
