Best "Cheap" Rangefinder

brutal brutus

Recommended Posts

I've been using a BlueTees Series 1 that includes slope and vibrates when you lock on to the pin, and recommend it.  It was ~$150 a year ago, and the yardages seem to be in sync with the more expensive models (Bushnells, Callaway) that my regular playing partners use.  If there's a 2-3 yard disparity, I haven't found that it has had any negative impact on my game.

The gang at ShotScope dropped a new model, the Pro L2 last week, to little or no fanfare.  Saw it at the PGA Show - it's a solid little (as in smaller than their others), with slope and a built-in magnet for $150. Gavin says you'll find it a tick slower in target acquisition than their Pro LX models (which are very good), but it represents a dandy value at a buck-fitty.

And the lack of fanfare was intentional - they dropped the X5 watch the same day. They'll give the new laser some love after the Masters.

Sold out on ShotScope.com - but it should be available through Golf Galaxy.  Click here to check it out.

I've used a Mileseey PF210 Pro for the last several years.  I bought it on eBay directly from Mileseey for under $100.   It had 6X optics, flag lock, slope and other features similar to higher end rangefinders.  On eBay now, you can get the same rangefinder for roughly $80 and more updated ones (with magnet holders, etc.) for under $100.  I found them to give fast and accurate measurements as compared with my golfing buddies who own significantly more expensive devices.

Used the Milessey PF260 for the last couple of years, cost £75 on eBay and has never let me down. Ok it’s not a Bushnell, but that’s the point I don’t need a named brand to give me accurate distances 200 yards in. This works for me

I am not sure about anything less then $100, but I have a Harry Taylor 1000 model that I paid around $169 that seems to work as well as my buddies more expensive Bushnell.

Precision Pro or Blue Tees are the two best, IMO. I personally use a Precision Pro rangefinder, and several golfers with whom I regularly play use them, as well. I also play with some guys who use Blue Tees rangefinders and they love them.

DR - Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max, Newton Motion 4-Dot shaft

4W - Titleist TSR2, Newton Motion 4-Dot FW shaft

HYB - Sub 70 949X 21*, original HZRDUS Black 85-S shaft

7W (if played) - Titleist TSR, ACCRA TZ6 7S

Irons - Cobra King Forged Tec X, KBS TGI graphite shafts

Wedges - Edison 2.0, 47* (bent to 48*), 53* and 57* (bent to 58*), KBS TGI 100 Tour S

Putter - Evnroll ER10 ""Outback” Mallet

Ball - Maxfli Tour-X CG (2023) or Vice Pro Plus

Bags - Vessel / Ghost stand bags

Cart - MotoCaddy M7 Remote (without the remote)

Spoiler

Lots of short game practice has made this a strength; now the driver is causing problems!

Have you thought about buying a used Bushnell?  It may not be new but it’s a very good range finder.  With the new version coming out next month, I would think a lot of people will upgrade and sell, their perfectly good old one.
I find my 5 year old  Bushnell still works great.

I have a THGOLF from Amazon rangefinder that I got last July for $60. So far so good with it. I double check it every once in a while with a gps app and been close every time. I also tested it against a buddy’s callaway rangefinder and it was always about 1-2 yards shorter than the callaway. I figure since it’s consistent, it’s working properly. The main features I wanted was slope and a rechargable battery (this one is USB-c). I do find that it takes 2-4 attempts to get the flag at over 220 yards. I don’t know about its durability because I keep it in the case unless I’m actively using it, I haven’t dropped it and I haven’t used it in rain yet. I would recommend it if you’re strictly looking for cheap. However, if I were playing more serious events I would probably get something more expensive.
